Within a big building located upon spacious grounds in a bustling city, the body of a young boy could be seen within a room filled with lush plant life and a very sweet fragrance. The body of the fourteen year old boy could be seen beginning to stir.
Gradually the boy pushed himself up into a sitting position unlike his previous one of lying down tugged within the bed. Suddenly the door burst open and a woman wearing a uniform could be seen entering the room. Without even waiting for the boy’s permission she began to unwrap the bandages that covered the various parts of his body. Finally she seemed to have reached a conclusion.
"Sardec you useless twat, if I had the choice I wouldn't bother helping you. You're useless you know, actually useless. Who has ever heard of someone who can't train their energy no matter what elemental technique they used." The woman said to the silent boy lying on the bed.
With a disgusted look on her face she swept out of the room after it became clear the boy, Sardec wouldn't answer her. But what she didn't know was that Sardec wasn't the only one in the room. Instead there was an extra unseen presence who previously went by the name of Liam. But Liam wasn't sure if that name could still apply to him as he currently resided in Sardec's body. Unfortunately for him Sardec didn't want to give up control of his body and this resulted in a battle between two different souls, Sardec’s and Liam’s. Each of them contained their own personality and memories that fuelled them on. This was a fight to the death because whoever lost would lose control of the body would ultimately have faded away.
As the battle continued, both sides began to realise that if the fighting remained the way it currently was, the victor of the battle may not even be able to control the body. This created the first lull in the ferocious battle that was invisible to the outside. And in this lull both sides came together. Sardec's soul and the soul currently going by the name of Liam. They discussed with each other what their hopes and dreams were and what they had regretted.
Finally after a long time an agreement seemed to be reached between both sides. But, rather than the fight being continued or the two sides separating away from each other, they instead began to merge together to form a new existence. One that was neither Liam or Sardec, one that was both. This new existence was the best of both of the two previous souls. Now this new soul not only had the knowledge from Liam previous life but also had Sardec's knowledge of his life and with this new knowledge the new soul finally realised it was no longer in the world Liam had grown up in. And thus the new soul experienced its first emotion excitement. It was excited for all the new possibilities now available to it.
Eventually the silence in the room was broken by a cough that was let out by the previously silent boy. The new soul that resided in the body of the boy decided he would now go by the name of Sardec as that was what everyone knew this body as. As well as that the new Sardec could finally look back at his memories as Liam and try to understand how he had ended up in the situation he had. Thankfully because he was no longer fighting for his survival and control of this body he could ponder the memories for as long as he wanted. But he didn't need much time. The last thing he had remembered was during a rugby match.
"Ref, time?" One of Liam's teammates shouted to the referee but not in an unpolite way.
"Two minutes remaining." Was the response that came from the referee before he proceeded to shout.
"White scrum. Crouch. Bind. Set."
Immediately after those words the scrum engaged but neither side gave in.
"Heave two three, heave two three, break!"
The scrum crumbled but the opposing number eight had peeled away from the scrum. Then, from where Liam was standing he could see his teammate Tom, his team's number six tackling the eight just before the game line. The referee seemed to shout something but it was obviously not important as the paly continued and the opposing team secured their ruck. But when the ruck was secured, Liam could see that the other team was getting ready to kick the ball away from their try line.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
And just as he expected moments later the ball was sent flying down his way. But as he began to run towards where the ball would land, Liam realised it would be very tight between which team would get to the ball first. Liam jumped up towards the ball and while he did not take is eye off the ball he could tell he would gather it up before the other team's player did. Suddenly Liam hit something. There was a moment of dizziness, then there was nothing. That was until he kind of woke up to find himself in Sardec's body.
After having pondered the memories for a while he believed he must have landed very badly from the catch and most likely died as a result of the landing. He knew that he probably should be sad at that, but really it was quite the opposite. In fact he was actually glad if he died because now he had the opportunity to experience a new world. He felt absolutely no sadness what so ever because realistically he had lost nothing. In Liam's life he was not in a relationship, had no siblings and his parents had died. He also didn't really have any friends which was what led him to joining the army as a military engineer. But now he had a chance, but not just Liam had a chance, Sardec had one as well.
Sardec knew from Liam's memories and personality that he could do what Sardec couldn't. That he wouldn't put up with being looked down upon and pitied. No, instead he knew that Liam would go out of his way to show just how good he was at certain things. Rather than being nervous within, he would be bursting with confidence. And this is why Sardec accepted merging with Liam because this way maybe they could both experience and live the lives they always wanted.
But this would not be easy from what he could see from Sardec’s original memories. At the age of seven Sardec was exiled from his noble family because he was believed to have tried to kill his older brother. Sardec knew he had been framed because he was the only other male heir in the family that could contest for the position of family leader. But no one believed Sardec when he said he was framed by his brother and older sister. Instead his father was so disgusted that he sent Sardec away despite the pleas of Sardec's twin sister. No one else in the family even tried to argue with the decision because the only person who would have ever stood a chance was his mother, who was dead for four years.
Thankfully at the same time that Sardec was exiled from his family his uncle had been setting out with his families merchant caravan to the city of Segard. Sardec's uncle disguised Sardec as one of the porters who were a part of the five hundred man convoy. Sardec was very grateful towards his uncle for this and thanked his uncle a lot but was told he was only doing everything out of pity because otherwise Sardec wouldn't survive with his inability to train his energy no matter what techniques he tried to use.
For three years Sardec worked as a porter with the family merchant caravan in order to gain enough money so that he could pay the entry fee to get into one of the academies located in Segard. Then during one of the caravan’s visits to Segard, he hired a room in an inn with all the spare money he had saved up. For four years Sardec lived in the room he rented at the inn. The only reasons he wasn't made to leave was because of his age and that he continued to always pay for the room on time.
Throughout those four years until Sardec entered the academy, his uncle would give a small supply of nineteen gold coins every five months ( 1/2 a year ). The room and food would cost fifteen cold coins in total which then left four coins for Sardec to spend however he wanted. While this was not great it was still better than what most peasant families got.
Finally when Sardec was fourteen years old he paid the five hundred gold coins to become a student of the Twilight Academy, the ninth best academy in the world. He believed that all would now be good because he had entered the academy and nothing bad could happen to him here. But he was wrong, very wrong. Within one week of entering the academy most of the instructors were ignoring him, some even went as far as to try and make him quit. But that wasn't even the worst that had happened to him. All the other students ganged up on him and sometimes beat him up. It got so bad and regular that when a class finished for the day Sardec would immediately run to his room and barricade himself in. He then escaped through a window at night so he could go to the inn he had previously stayed at. At the inn he would get food instead of getting it at the academy canteen. But then one day when Sardec escaped out the window to head to the inn he was ambushed by a bunch of senior students and then beaten. He was beaten up so badly that he was sent to the infirmary. It was even thought that he had died.
Eventually Sardec was done going through his old memories and when he realised how bad the situation had developed he resolved that he would change it. That he would be better, that he would show them that he wasn't weak and that he would return what had been done to him by the senior students. Suddenly Sardec stood up and he didn't even pause before he headed straight out of the room he had awoken in.
And when Sardec left the main building he didn't leave as he had all those other times, with his head bowed down and trying to remain unseen in the background, instead this time he marched straight out of the building with his head held high, his back straightened and a smile full of confidence. Anyone who saw Sardec that day and compared him to how was previous times they would have said it was almost as if a whole new person had replaced him.
