2 - The First Day

2 - The First Day

Lucas felt an all encompassing pressure and a comforting warmth. This moment of respite however was short lived for a biting cold ensnared his body causing him to tremble. His lungs found themselves filled with water, causing him to suffocate without as much as a whimper.

'What's happening? Where am I? Am I going do die again?!' His mind, wrought in turmoil kicks into full gear for an answer as panic settles in.

'Cough, goddamnit!' He mentally screams as he attempts to force himself to cough, yet, try as he might his body is too weak and frail for such action, as much as moving his fingers takes effort. 'I really am going to die...' He somberly thinks as his head begins to feel lighter and ligther.

Fortunately for him, another visit to The Ferryman is not yet due as a sharp pain in his back causes him to cough, freeing him from his ever growing panic and giving the man his sorely needed oxygen. The feeling of relief that washes over him is so grand tears begin to stream down his cheeks, and as he cried his heart out, a comforting embrace enveloped him. It was warm, soothing and caring setting his mind at ease. He felt as everything would be just fine. Slowly, the tears subsided and drowsiness took their place, and without much resistance, Lucas drifted off to sleep once more.

Later that day, Lucas opens his eyes for the second time ever since he arrived in this world.

"Ack!" What he wasn't ready for whoever, was the sudden blinding light that assaulted his eyes. 'Well, at least I know I wasn't born blind...' He dryly says to himself as he slowly opens his eyes once more. It takes not small amount of willpower to keep them open despite the searing pain.

The room he was currently located at was a simple, rustic looking medium sized room. In the middle of the room laid a queen sized bed up against the wall. To its right sat a brown wooden drawer holding a variety of trinkets or memorabilia, the most notable being a lampshade with a ivory white crystal where its lamp was supposed to be. To its left, there is a rustic wooden crib painted white. Behind the bed a moderately big window was open giving light to the room. By the angle the light was coming from, Lucas deduced it to be around Nine AM. The walls and floor are all made out of a grey-ish stone with small cracks being visible here and there. On the wall laid paintings of all kinds and meanings one, for an example, was the drawing of a man with brown almost black hair and yellow-ish skin meditating on-top of a mat in the peak of a snowy mountain. He wore the white tunics of a monk and bore a serene look in his face. As for Lucas himself, he was being held in the arms of yellow skinned man with chocolate brown eyes who looked suspiciously similar to the one in the painting. He had a happy, warm smile splitting his face as he stared at Lucas with pride.

"She was right, we really do have the same eyes." The man mused as he tickled Lucas's sides, eliciting a giggle from the newborn causing the man's smile to widen even further as he puts Lucas down into the crib. "Daddy's got work to do little man." He says while tucking in who was now revealed to be his son. "Be good while I'm out, kay?" He says after giving the baby a kiss in the forehead and promptly leaving the room.

'He seems like a nice guy.' Lucas thinks to himself while staring at the ceiling his eyes still hurt, but it is becoming more manageable by the minute. 'I wonder what my mom is like.' He shuffles a bit in his blankets to make himself more comfortable. 'Either way, let me recount what happened so far: I died, met the ferryman of souls with a surprising lack of a river and or boat.' Usually when stressed or shoved into a new situation Lucas tends to re-count everything that has happened to him in the near past. It helps him think. 'Then, I got re-incarnated as a baby into what I assume is a medieval world.' He turns his head to the side and stares at the weird lampshade. 'I wonder what's up with the lamp. I mean, that thing on the lampshade is nothing like anything I ever saw. Then again, not like I'm the most knowledgeable guy around.' Soon enough sleep takes over Lucas once more.

Later that day Lucas wakes up and stares blankly at the ceiling for a minute before looking at the walls of his crib. 'This really wasn't some weird dream, huh?' He has mixed feelings about his situation. In one end, the thrill of a new world excites him to no end, but on the other, he will never get to see his family or albeit few friends. He didn't even get to say goodbye. 'I wonder how mom is doing... Her eyesight was getting worse and worse, the shock of losing me might just do her vision in, the medic said she couldn't handle any more stress.' Tears begin to well up at the corner of his eyes. 'No.' He shakes his head. 'I can't be a whimp now... Dad would kill me.' He sucks the tears up as his face morphs into one of determination. 'I will make this second life count, no matter what it takes.'

"Oh! My lady, Edward is awake!" A tanned skin woman sporting a traditional black and white maid dress says in an excited tone. She has Emerald green eyes, ruby red hair and a noticeable scar in her left cheek. She stands in the far left corner of the room, dusting a cryptic painting of a ruby engulfed in flames. The lady in question laid on the bed with a thick tome in her hands. She has fair white skin and platinum-silver hair, her eyes are a dazzling sapphire-blue. She wore a simple yet well made green tunic, and in her finger, laid a beautiful golden ring with a large diamond embedded into it. She did not even bother looking at the maid before putting her tome down and getting up from bed with a shaky step. "You sure sleep a lot, don't you?" She smiles and stops in-front of the crib, reaching down a hand to caress her baby's face. She gently picks him up and sits down at the bed while humming a tune.

'Man, this is nice... Being a baby isn't so bad after all.' Lucas thinks to himself while enjoying his new mother's song. 'I wonder what their names are. Judging by her face, I would bet on Hellen.' He smiles and looks up to meet his mother's eyes. 'I will make you proud and the happiest mom in this world. I won't fail this time around, I vow with all my soul... Although, that will have to wait. Why am I so sleepy again?' He yawns. 'Ah whatever, it doesn't matter. Might aswell enjoy it while I can.' With that Lucas drifts off to sleep in his mother's arms.
