Chapter II - The Age of Innocence

Chapter II - The Age of Innocence

It was never quiet in the palace after the princess was born. Small giggles, laughter and squeals filled the corners of the palace walls. It is like the whole place was her playground by herself. It feels like yesterday when she was born but it was already five years after.

"Your majesty, it's time for your bath. Please show yourself." Shin covered her mouth as she from her personal nanny, Olga. She thinks that the palace curtain the she is hiding from is enough to conceal her physical presence but little did she know that the maid already know where she is, by just feeling the strong aura that the little royalty is emitting.

She pretends that she didn't know where she is so she looked from one room to another. Shin took a peek before slowly making her way out of hiding spot. Once she noticed that the coast is clear, she slowly made her way to a new hiding spot not until she was caught by the nanny and gave her tickles. "You found me!" She squealed.

"Shin," Reina appeared out of nowhere, looking as elegant as a queen she is. "Olga might be your nanny but follow her requests specially when it comes to your hygiene. She looks very young to serve you but she will age if you keep on teasing her like that."

Olga giggled softly and bowed to the queen. "Please, you majesty. Don't worry about me. I will always keep my eye on the princess."

Reina smiled and carried Shin. "I know, Olga. But don't stress yourself too much on her. She might be small but she is clever." then she tickled her daughter. Shin made a small laugh and smiled at her mother.

"Mother, will you bath me?" The little one asked as they make their way to the bath area.

"My dear, I will help Olga but I wouldn't stay long. Your father needs me to attend matters for the kingdom."

"Where is he?"

"He is outside, meeting the general."

"When will I come outside, mother? I always see outside through the window but I never stepped out for once. Not even at the balcony."

Reina chewed her lower lip knowing that this question will surface from her daughter. She knows that once she grows up, her daughter questions that is very hard for her to answer.

Reina doesn't know either why they need to keep their daughter inside. All she know is that it is his husband's order to keep the identity of the princess and hide her inside the palace until she is old enough to marry. As much as she wanted to show the beauty of Lukedonia to her daughter, she doesn't have a choice but to follow her husband's order as this is a part of the prophecy that he is avoiding. "It is because that you are not yet done studying with Franken. Once you beat him then you can step outside and play." All she can do is to lie. Lie to protect her daughter for what his husband is keeping.

"I will be smarter that Uncle Franken one day and show him that I, Antonette Yamaguchi, will be as smart as our Atlanti ancestors!" Reina giggled from what her daughter boasted.

"I am looking forward, Shin." She gave her a small kiss on the cheek and started to give her daughter a bath.

"Does she really have to go?" The pouting child asked her nanny while she is dried by a towel.

"It seems like it was urgent so she has to."

"Who is Lisa?"

"Apologies, your majesty, for I haven't heard of the name before." Olga gazed at the little one's eyes seeing how sad it is. She badly wanted to spend time with her mother yet the call of the kingdom needs always takes her away from her.

"I wanna spend time with mother and father, Olga. They are always busy for me." The nanny became silent ang gave a soft smile to the princess. Even she, a mere servant of the Yamaguchi's, know the sadness of the princess that she is serving. She may have everything in a snap of her finger yet it only limits her to the material needs and wants. Not the attention that she can get from her parents.

As soon as she is done getting dressed, Shin gazed outside the tall glassed window of her room. There, it is facing the palace backyard garden filled with flowers with different kinds and color, trees with different height and fruits bare and a fountain in the center. At the far corner of the garden, there is a huge pond filled with different kinds of fishes and has floating lilies. At the center of the pond stands a white gazebo with painted red roof and vein plants crawling at the pillars of the gazebo. There is a table at the center with five chair surrounding it. There, she saw her mother talking to a lady with the same physique as her. Beside the lady is a boy a little older than her with black locks and pointy ears.

"Olga, who are they?" Her curiosity spikes up as she sees her mother speaking to an unknown person.

"Apologies, your majesty, for I haven't seen them before."

"Why is she crying, Olga?"

"I think it is better to keep our noses out of the queen's business." Shin sighed and nodded. There is a lot of questions that she wants to ask her nanny but she knows that the answer that she isn't looking for won't be supplemented by her. It is very visible from her eyes that she wants to know more and be involved on what is happening from the outside world at a young age. After all, she is the princess of the kingdom.

"Olga, can I have some milk please?"

"Right away, your majesty." Olga gets a glass and pours the milk into it. "Have you finished Mr. Frankenstein's assignment?"

"Yeah. It was easy."

"He will visit today and check on you. The noblesse will be visiting today as well."

Shin's eyes sparkle when she heard their names. "Really?"

"Yes. Seems like Mr. Frankenstein is taking some time off of his research to escort the noblesse to the palace."

"I can't wait to see them!" Shin immediately gulped her milk which made Olga smile. Finally, she can see a glimmer of happiness from the princess' eyes.

Raizel and Franken are at the library hours later. Rai is sitting on the couch, sipping tea while Franken is reading a book off of the shelf.

The door was ajar when it burst and a high pitch voice showered their ears.

"Raizel! Franken!" Shin shouted and immediately hugged his grandfather, Raizel.

"Your majesty, we're at the library." Olga gently scolded.

"Oops." Then shin placed a finger over her mouth and giggled. Olga placed her hand on her head while shaking it. She may look disappointed but she showed a soft smile to the princess.

Shin keeps on talking to Raizel about the last time that they visited up to today that they arrived.

Raizel is not a very talkative person as same as his granddaughter but he listens very attentively to her. All of his attention is shifted to her like she is his very own daughter.

Franken placed the book back in the shelf and approached Olga.

"How is she?"

"Lively as usual but when the topic involves their majesty, she is like loosing her energy. As if she is... sad." Olga mumbled yet eyes are still glued to Shin.

"She always ask about her parents' time for her?" She nodded.

"If I were in her shoes, I would feel the same. Maximillian is always outside, barely giving attention to her. Reina who wants to split herself in two to attend her husband's needs in the kingdom and her daughter's needs yet she knows that she can only do one at a time. All she can secure for now is the kingdom's future for this will also be her daughter's future."

"They barely see each other. Earlier, her majesty assisted me in giving her a bath."

"Well at least she gave her some time. When was the last time Maximillian talked to her?"

Olga sighed. "If talking to her, that was the last time that you were here but seeing her, it was two weeks ago. He visited her in her bedroom yet she was already asleep."

"Wait, she spoke to her the last time that we were here? That was a month ago." Franken shook his head in disappointment. "It is like he is avoiding her. Afraid of her own daughter."

"I hope you won't mind me asking, Mr. Frankenstein, but why is the king so afraid of the princess? The queen told me that she is so powerful but just by looking at her, she seems so innocent. She is very young and needs to experience the attention from her parents. Also, why can't she visit outside? Even just the garden."

"I can't answer that, Olga. Only master and Maximillian knows the true answer. What you know is also the same thing that I know, that she is so powerful that even her own father is threatened."

Their little chat was disturbed when Franken heard the name Lisa from Shin. Basing from Rai's face, he knows that this is trouble but he kept all his attention to her.

"Who is Lisa?" Shin asked to Rai.

"She is a very close friend of your mother." Franken chuckled and approached them. "Why you asked?"

"Well, the guards spoke her name and were asking for mother during bath time. She immediately went out to see her. While getting dressed, I also saw them at the gazebo at the garden near my room. There was a woman crying at mother with a boy beside her. The woman doesn't look like from here, Franken. She might be Lisa?"

Raizel looked at Franken as if he is asking him to check on Reina. He knows that both of them can't leave Shin for the princess will be sad again which they want to avoid.

"That is a good question, Shin. I will find that out for you."

"Can I come?" The child's eyes sparkle as she is pleading to the man before him. She knows that he can't say no to her so he avoided her eyes and looked at his master.

"Let's wait for Franken here, Shin." Shin pouted at Raizel's response.

"Fine." She sulks.

"Don't worry, I'll tell you if she is Lisa or not." Franken chuckled and bowed to his master and granddaughter before leaving the library.

Who is Lisa? Is she the lady with Reina in the gazebo? If so, who is the child with her?
