Chapter Six - New friends Part Two

I tried to get up from my sitting position, completely forgetting I wasted all my energy escaping... myself. 'Oh, that's pretty pathetic.'

The wolf turned his head back around, no longer interested in me. He walked out into the snowstorm and the only thing I could do was squeak out cute pips. I really wanted to follow him. He was the only person I could talk to. The only way my questions could be answered. I stared at him with burning eyes of hatred.

'Who does he think he is?!'

'Walking off on me!'

'Come back here!'

'Come back...Please.'

'I need someone, anyone.'

I don't think I would've realized my loneliness if I hadn't met someone, heard their voice. I don't want to be alone anymore. I want to talk with people. I want to eat something other than the Cold. I can't handle being alone anymore. My mother is gone. I have no family.

The wolf was just barely visible through the storm of snow. A power flowed through me. I can make him come back! I'm going to say it! I'm going to tell him to come back! I breathed in as much as I could, I wetted my tongue, and then...

"SQUEAK!"

'Oh God, that was... embarrassing,' I totally forgot I couldn't speak. The power quickly deflated, almost as quickly as my hopes.

The wolf was gone. I stared at the last place I last saw him for hours, unable to look away, unable to believe I was alone once again.

'Does the world hate me so? Not only must it condemn me to solitude and loneliness, it must mock and tease me. Giving me a mother and then taking her away. Giving me someone to talk to, while I couldn't talk. Giving me someone to look at that doesn't wish to be near me. Am I so detestable?'

I stayed like that for days, my very existence in question. I didn't want to live, I didn't want to eat, I didn't want to move.

'What's the point of living when the world wants me dead?'

I was on my last leg when I heard some shuffling outside the cave.

'Oh great, now the world must mock me again. Making me hallucinate that people actually came here.'

"Wake up!" A familiar voice sounded in my ears. 'I'm hallucinating that boy again'

So tired of living, I closed my eyes, hoping it was for the last time. Then a familiar sting rang across my face. My eyes flung open, though my body didn't move an inch; I didn't have the energy to move.

Two big wolves and three smaller ones came into view.

"Adolf, is this the pup you found?" The biggest wolf asked. They all stared at the smallest pup in the cave other than me, the one I met earlier.

"Yeah, this is the pup that almost k- that I saved from the blistering cold. When I first saw her she was shivering so bad and was half frozen. I grabbed her and ran off to the nearest cave I could find!" Adolf puffed out his chest, closed his eyes, faced the two big wolves, and waited for praise.

They had a troubled look. In a worried yet serious tone, they stared at Adolf and asked, "Are you telling the truth? Did you really find this wolf outside of THIS cave? You didn't find her in THIS cave?"

Adolf got fidgety, he looked at the ground and said weakly, "Y...Yeah."

The two big wolves only looked more troubled at the little wolf's nervous dance. They stared intently at Adolf, and he only got more restless.

"Maybe I did find her in this cave," he whispered, barely audible. "Why does it even matter?"

The biggest of the three small wolves came up and said, "Because this is the birthing cave of the King and the Queen."

"What is Loki talking about, mom, dad?" Adolf asked the two big wolves.

The big female sighed, "This is where the princess, Artemis, was born two months ago. That means that this white fu- I mean royalty is very likely the princess, Artemis."

All the wolves turned to me, but I wasn't paying attention to them. My mind was still spinning from them calling me a princess.

'I'm a princess? Wait...Does that mean mother was the Queen? The Queen was killed?'

This revelation brought back painful memories. The dying face of the mother I just met. The FILTH that killed her.

'They WILL pay!'

A blue mist started spreading from me. With every breathe I was getting angrier. My face scrunched up, my eyes squinting. Like the ocean, the mist spread when I breathed out and it receded like a wave when breathing in.

The three small wolves started shivering and there was fear in their eyes. Even the big wolves were getting colder. They stepped in front of the three to protect them.

I was unable to move, yet my anger flooded the cave, attacking whatever was in reach. The big female looked at me and instead of fear, there was a sort of maternal love.

"Child," She said and walked closer to me with a warm and considerate smile.

I looked up to her and saw a pair of warm brown eyes that in the reflection was me.

A small baby wolf, mostly skin and bones. My fur was pure white, whiter than snow. My eyes, glowing the color of ice. But most of all, I was crying. My beautiful eyes were bloodshot and stained with tears. I couldn't breathe properly because of all the hiccups.

The big female came to my face and cleared my tears. We locked eyes and she said the words I wanted to hear most.

"You're not alone. Not now. Not ever. Will you come home with us?" She then planted her head on top of mine in a comforting hug.

With that, the ocean of frost receded and my anger and sadness went away.

I'm not alone anymore.
