Chapter Eight - A fine day for hair and hares

Upon waking, I was bombarded. First, a loud yet subtle ding sounded. Then, like having a bucket of water dumped on you, my fear washed away. Finally, Accalia came bursting in with a worried face.

All remaining fear was quickly put away and I stared with big bright eyes at Accalia. She looked confused, like when you hear something other people can't and they stare at you like your crazy (or this just me? Eh?) She shook her head and came forward to pick me up. We strode out of the unfamiliar room and towards the sounds of people.

When we got to the living room and I was placed down, I could see everyone staring at me. Silence reigned supreme and I got the feeling no one knew what to say. Confused at what I was supposed to do, I got up and waddled back to Accalia.

I think Adolf got bored and started licking his lips as he looked down at the bunnies. I saw him mumbling something under his breath. I heard as 'a fine day for hair.'

'Why is it a fine day for hair? Does he like the hair on hares? That's gross!' My monologue was cut short as someone started to talk,

"Awww. She's so cute," I heard Ptolemy say and I looked toward him and gave him my cutest smile I had. Then he crashed to the ground. 'Must have a brain tumor or something. With such bad balance, he should be checked out.' I left Accalia's side to go see if Ptolemy needed help, but it seemed whatever he had was degenerating fast because he was almost up when he looked at my concerned face and crashed down again, this time not making any attempt to get up. His nose was bleeding too. 'Maybe an aneurysm?' I got even more worried at that thought. I looked back to see if the others would help, but they had this weird smile on.

I disregarded them and returned to Ptolemy. I licked his face, trying to show my concern. I didn't know what was wrong with him and I didn't even know what to do. He looked up at me and all I could do was look back at him. I felt so useless.

'I can't do anything!'

First, mother died in front of me. I lost control of that frost. Then I couldn't get Adolf to stop moving away. Even that power didn't help me.

'Wait!'

I had no clue what that power that was inside of me was, but it seemed I could control it with my will.

'Except... it didn't work without words,' I pouted. 'Even this stupid power is useless!'

I was about to give up, but when I looked behind me, I could see the family that took me in. They were about to lose a child and couldn't do anything. 'No! I'm not giving up again. I already gave up my own life and these people saved me. I need to help! I'm the only one who can!'

I dredged up the power that was inside me and commanded it to heal Ptolemy's wound. The power became a warm summer breeze that encased everything inside of me. My whole body felt warmer, more powerful. I willed it to leave, but it didn't, couldn't leave my body. Like an invisible barrier blocked it from leaving.

I smashed the barrier as hard as I could. I tried again and again and soon cracks began to appear. I increased my efforts and soon the barrier was on the cusp of breaking. I got one last large hit ready. I winded it up and smashed it on the barrier.

The cracks started to spread until I couldn't tell whether it actually existed in the first place. But then the barrier started to regenerate rapidly and before I could blink, it was in its original form, nay, it was thicker and stronger. Now it was impossible to get past. I just barely destroyed it before with all my strength, and now the barrier is stronger than before.

I looked down and Ptolemy seemed to have passed out while blood still leaked from his nose.

I couldn't do anything. I tried my best, but nothing worked.

My tears were streaming down my face and I couldn't help but to sob. I put my head down, over his, and cried till even his face was wet.' Why can't I get this power to move? Why can I only move it inside my body? Is the world mocking me again? Giving me a power that only works inside my body, then putting someone I care for in front of me who is hurt.' I once again looked at Ptolemy and his face was soaked with my tears.

My Tears? MY tears! I focused that power inside of me to my eyeballs. 'HEAL!' I screamed inside of my head and bit my tongue. My tears started to pour out even quicker. (Yes, so many tears that even her fur did not impede it. It's a magical world with a magical wolf with magical tears.)

When I felt I could not cry anymore, even if I tried, I stared hopefully at Ptolemy.

Nothing happened.

I started to despair when I thought I saw him twitch. My hope rekindled, I looked upon him for a while longer, but he didn't move again.

The eyes I was sure couldn't leak a tear more started waterfalling tears as I bawled my eyes out.

'He's dead. He's dead because I could save him.'

I felt so cold.

Then my head was hugged in a familiar fashion.

"Why are you crying baby? Just because of Ptolemy's huge cuteness-complex and him passing out?"

My eyes widened. 'Passed out? Cuteness-complex?' I stared at Accalia, not going to rest until she explained further.

Out of weird understanding or maybe just a coincidence, Harou said, " Ptolemy wake up! You're making Artemis cry! Stop getting a nosebleed every time you see a cute baby!" He paired his yelling a fast kick to the side of Ptolemy.

I turned my head faster than ever before to look at Ptolemy, hoping he was passed out and not dead like Harou and Accalia said. One of his legs started to move and soon all four. HIs eyes opened and then he whined, "Why'd you kick we so hard! It hurts!"

I could believe it. He's alive. He's alive! I went up to him to give him loving kisses.

'I can't believe he was alive the whole time,' I slowed down my kisses. 'If he was alive this whole time, why didn't he do or say anything when I thought he was dead.' I looked up at him suspiciously and he seemed to understand it. He looked off to the side and blushed. 'He tricked me! I'm going to kill him!' He was too tall for me to get to his face, so I went for his legs. *Chomp* I bit down on his leg thinking, 'Teach you to trick me again!'
