The Progenitor
1st Arc: CH1-Prologue

1st Arc: CH1-Prologue

In the year 2020 while the world was in great political turmoil and the global superpowers were on the verge of starting a World War 3, an unexpected phenomenon occurred at the same time in many places across the planet.

Ancient beings with supernatural powers suddenly appeared, some could control various elements like fire, thunder, water or wind, while others could control many powers at the same time. They all looked like any other human you would see on the street, but most of them claimed to be thousands of years old.

Many of them were friendly and helped humans while others proclaimed themselves as Gods and looked down on humans as inferior beings. Some announced their loyalty to specific countries and closely worked with their governments while holding positions of equal authority as the President or Prime Minister, others took rule of whole countries since humans were powerless to stop them, and others secluded themselves from humanity entirely for many different reasons. Slowly with the passage of time, the world started calling these beings Progenitors.

Five years have already passed since the first appearance of the mysterious beings, but each year since then, more and more were appearing seemingly out of nowhere. And the new ones that appeared seemed to be more and more powerful than the previous ones. Religions almost entirely fell, balance between the major superpowers was seemingly restored because of the interventions of the Progenitors.

March 23rd 2025, Japan, Tokyo.

Inside a small studio apartment the loud noise of an alarm clock could be heard. The slim hand of a man was slowly stretching from under the covers in order to grab the phone and turn the alarm off. The young Kaito Takahashi came out of the bed covers with his eyes still half-closed. He sat there for a moment while still listening to the sound of the annoying alarm clock on his phone as if contemplating what he hated more; the sound of it? The fact that the clock was showing that it’s 6:30 AM? Or maybe the fact that it was Monday and he had to go back to his weekly routine as a Medical student?

Name: Kaito Takahashi

Race: Human

Age: 21

Height: 1.80m

Weight: 70Kg

Hair: Dark, medium length, messy.

Occupation: Med student.

Dislikes: Mom and Dad

Likes: Big boobs

Favorite food: Kushikatsu

Dream: Wants to lead a carefree life while travelling the world

Kaito turned off the alarm and opened the curtains of his window, it was raining. It seemed like it was always raining these days. Kaito turned on his TV and started cooking some breakfast. He didn’t really like watching TV, not to mention he didn’t have the time for it, he thought it was a waste of time since nowadays it was either all about commercials or about the Progenitors.

But still, he always liked the background noise of the TV while he was at home, for some reason it made him feel less lonely.

While still cooking, he was listening to the morning news on the TV:

‘’…the Chairman of the IPA(International Progenitor Association) announced that after the last Progenitor appearance this past January, there will be no more appearances. According to the IPA the current Progenitor population across the world is somewhere around 10000. When asked by the press as to why there will be no more appearances and how does he know? The chairman refused to give an answer. Next we will be moving on to today’s weather forecast…’’

‘’Progenitors’’ Kaito mumbled under his breath. He didn’t like them very much, not that he had a particular reason to dislike them, it was mostly because he was jealous of them. Freedom, power, influence, authority over others, money, they had it all. And it felt even worse when Kaito thought that they did absolutely nothing to deserve what they had, they just appeared out of nowhere, showed off their powers and boom! The whole world bends to their will.

But the more Kaito thought about it he started to realize that it’s not the Progenitors he actually hates, it was himself, his life in particular. He never wanted to go to Medical school, but his strict, rich parents didn’t leave him much of a choice. Kaito’s parents were both very successful medical doctors with quite a few private clinics in Japan under their name. To them, Kaito’s lack of interest in medicine was a huge shame. But Kaito never wanted to do anything in particular, if one asked him what his dream was he would probably just reply ‘’be free’’. His parents never understood him, and he didn’t blame them in the beginning, he was planning to work for a bit, get some money and move away to another country but his parents strictly refused. He hated the fact that he basically had zero control over his life. It was as if his parent’s already planned out his whole life for him.

Kaito was always thinking about these things every morning before going to university, it was like a constant thorn in his back. But he learned to suppress these thoughts; ‘’…maybe it won’t be so bad being a doctor. I don’t like it but I’m good at it’’ he was thinking to himself. He was sufficiently self-aware to know that he was just lying to himself but it was still better than being depressed for the rest of the day.

After eating his breakfast Kaito set off for his morning Anatomy class, he needed about 10 minutes to reach the train station and then another 30 minutes to get to the university. While walking to the station through the rain, he felt something falling on his umbrella. He stopped and looked on the floor, it was; what looked like a jewel, a deep dark color precious stone. It was about 5cm in diameter and reflected almost no light at all.

Kaito was fascinated and picked it up. He was giving it a close look as if trying to figure out if it’s actually precious but he gave up as he had no idea how to conclude if it was precious or not. Then he started wondering how the hell did it fall from the sky? Was someone playing a prank on him?

He then looked at his watch and realized that he was running late for the train, so he quickly put the stone into his bag without a second thought and rushed to the station.

March 23rd 2025, Greece, Athens.

It was 00:02 but Athens was more alive than ever. Boundless lights could be seen across the whole city with cars and motorbikes moving everywhere. In the center of the city, on the hill called ‘Acropolis’, far under the Parthenon was a secret underground tomb than nobody ever discovered. Who knows how many centuries that tomb stood there?

The tomb was small and unimpressive, there was only a single chamber inside with a chained, golden coffin in the center. Under the chains, the coffin was covered in what looked like ancient markings of a long forgotten language. Suddenly the markings started shining with a black light, the chains reacted to that black light and shined a blinding white color. It looked like the two lights were fighting each other, but eventually the black color completely swallowed the white and the chains snapped.

The coffin opened and a man who looked like he was in his early thirties levitated out of it while still keeping his eyes closed. He was wearing black clothing that looked as ancient as the coffin, but there was no sign of dirt or dust on the man’s clothes or face. The man stood straight on both legs and opened his eyes, they shined with a dark red color before dimming down to a regular red.

He looked at the dimly lit room and smiled with satisfaction, after which he stretched his arms as if he just woke up from a long sleep. He then turned towards the coffin and with the same smile said ‘’…how interesting, I was not supposed to be here but it seems like Destiny played a trick on me…well have it your way then, they couldn’t keep me here forever anyway…’’

After that the man stretched out one arm and a two meter long Bident materialized in his hand. The bident was silver in color and had many dark jewels covering it, just next to the handle where there was supposed to be the biggest jewel though the man realized that it was missing. He smiled yet again and closed his eyes as if trying to locate it, after some time he opened his eyes and lightly tapped the bident on the ground after which resulted in him disappearing from the dimply lit chamber and reappearing above the surface, inside the Parthenon.

The man then flicked his wrist and the bident disappeared into thin air, after which he closed his eyes for a second then opened them, he was now wearing regular, everyday clothing of the 21st century.

He then looked at the night sky, the stars were not reflecting at all in his deep red eyes. After sighing with a lazy expression on his face the man said:

‘’It’s quite far and it’s a huge hassle for me but I guess Destiny left me with no choice but to come find you…Kaito’’
