Lizzy slammed her door and broke down her heart raced as she dried away tears that couldn’t stop coming. She couldn’t accept that her mom used her powers on her. She was afraid and confused and mostly betrayed. Lizzy walked to the mirror and saw a red mark on her cheek. She looked around, got up, and threw her crown. She looked at the crown that was broken and picked it up.
“I’m so sorry mother I’m just mad I never would've thought that your daughter, the future queen would throw her crown enough where it breaks, but if my mom wants marriage I’m sure not going to be the bride,” Lizzy said softly, placing the crown in her bag.
Lizzy knew what she had to do. She raced around her room finding an old dress that was hanging up. She tore it down and began to rip it to make it shorter. Lizzy looked around more and saw a bag and grabbed it and started to shove things into it. Lizzy threw the bag across her back and flew the window open and got on the window seal Lizzy looked down and felt the warm wind rush through her hair.
“LIZZY WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” Lizzy turned around and saw Amilia dropping a brush with a shocked face.
“I’m sorry Amilia, but my mother wants marriage. I'm not marrying a random guy that just wants to be king of my kingdom.” Lizzy quietly said tears were forming in the corner of her eyes.
“But Lizzy we can talk this out…” Amilia said, running to grab Lizzy’s hand.
“Amilia you're not going to be queen, I want a prince that is right for me, not just someone that wants to be king. If mother won't let me live my dream then so be it,but I'm not staying and being misable,” Lizzy said, tears falling on Amilia’s wrist, pulling her hand out of Amilia’s grip. Amilia looked down.
“Princess please there has to be another way. How would your mother feel if you ran away?” Amilia pleaded trying to make Lizzy change her mind and stay.
“ENOUGH AMILIA IT’S MY CHOICE AND I CHOOSE TO LEAVE NOW LET ME!” Lizzy said, pushing Amilia back making Amilia tumble back, but kept her balance she looked up as she saw Lizzy the princess she swore to the Queen and King that she would be there for her daughter jumping out the window. Amilia panicked and ran to the window to see Lizzy running straight to the wall.
Amilia rushed out of Lizzy’s room and straight to the throne room where she saw King Max and Queen Rose and the townspeople talking. Amilia pushed through the crowd she made it in front of the thrones panting and trying to catch her breath she yelled, “YOUR HIGHNESSES YOUR DAUGHTER SHE RAN AWAY SHE JUMPED FROM HER WINDOW, SHE'S HEADING TOWARDS THE WALL!” Her voice echoed across the room making everyone fall silent.
“SHE WHAT WHY AND WHERE!” Queen Rose roared, making everyone slightly jump.
“She just jumped out the window. I tried to stop her but she pushed me away she going to the wall your highness.” Amilia explained.
“GUARDS I NEED ALL GUARDS TO BE STATIONED I NEED MY DAUGHTER HERE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND THAT’S AN ORDER!” Queen Rose yelled, making all the guards rush out of the room in search of the lost princess. King Max took his wife’s hand as she cried. “Honey the last thing I did...oh this is all my fault I yelled at her...my daughter she’s gone because of me.” Queen Rose cried.
The townspeople and the guards ran out of the castle to look for Lizzy. Amilia went back to Lizzy’s room and picked up the brush she dropped and sat on the bed. “Oh Lizzy please be safe, it's dangerous beyond the wall,” Amilia whispered, getting up and walked out of the room, shutting the door behind her.
Foot-steps, one step, two steps, three… turned into running and panting. Lizzy threw on a hood to shield herself from people seeing who she was. Lizzy heard voices all around her as she pushed through the crowd of townspeople looking for her. She heard guards yelling out her name. Lizzy started to sweat her heart going into another rhythm she never heard before. Lizzy kept running, looking back every second afraid someone would see her. She made it into a patch of woods where the trees covered her. Lizzy fell to the ground out of breath.
“Super smart Lizzy, you didn’t bring food or water.” She whispered to herself, she tried standing up but her legs felt like jello and wouldn’t let her put weight on them.
“Dang it, I have to keep moving. They will for sure find me. I'm only a little way from the village. I need to go further.” Lizzy pleaded to her legs as if they could hear and listen to her. Lizzy tried to force herself up, but there was no use. She looked around in hope of a hiding spot for the time to rest. When Lizzy found a hole in a tree that looked big enough to fit her, she took a chance and crawled to the tree and got inside. The tree was cool as Lizzy laid her head on it and went to sleep.
A few hours later… Lizzy woke up to the sound of people talking and footsteps. Lizzy got further into the tree to try not to be seen, but she could still hear them as they stopped right in front of the tree. Lizzy’s breath hitched as the air felt thick as she tried to make as little noise as possible. “I swear I saw the princess she was running through the crowd at first I didn’t recognize her because she was covering her face, but I got a glimpse and I just know it’s her.” A lady spoke with the sound of worries in her voice.
“Thank you for the information. Tomorrow we are going to release the dogs to see if they can track her and return her home. Her parents are going crazy trying to relocate her.” A guard said.
“Ah I feel so bad for the royal highnesses losing their daughter due to her running away, oh that would break my heart,” The lady said as Lizzy looked down.
“Yeah anyway, I will walk you to your home. It's rather late.” The guard said.
“Ah yeah thank you.” Lizzy heard the girl say as she and the guard walked away hearing their footsteps crushing everything that made noise. Lizzy finally let out the breath she didn’t know she was holding. She got up and looked outside of the tree. All the village's lights were off telling everyone that people were asleep that gave Lizzy a perfect opportunity to run. Lizzy gathered her things and took off running as she looked up she saw a huge wall.
“Freedom here I come,” Lizzy said smiling as she jumped, but hit the wall making her fall back to the ground.
“Stupid wall I’m supposed to escape to my freedom,” Lizzy muttered to herself as she looked around she saw a giant tree she smiled and jumped on the tree climbing it to the top to see over the wall. Lizzy paused and stared there was a long river including a forest that glowed with colors she never saw before in her kingdom. She beamed and slid down some vines making her have an easy fall.
As soon as Lizzy’s feet touched the ground she bolted away from the wall. As she looked back she couldn’t see the top of the wall. She smiled and kept running. Teardrops flew from her eyes as she kept running, not caring where she was going. All that she cared about was that she was free… All of a sudden she felt no ground beneath her feet as she looked down. She fell down, down, down until she hit the ground causing her head to take impact on the ground as she blacked out.
2 hours later… “OH, MY BROTHER COME QUICK!” A little girl yelled out as she saw her brother run.
“What’s wrong Anna?” Anna’s brother said, stopping in his tracks.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
“Brother, look it’s a girl and it looks like she’s hurt,” Anna said, getting closer.
“Anna we should probably go.” Her brother turned away but Anna stopped him.
“No we can’t just leave this girl alone you know what they were doing to her in this state…” Anna begged her brother.
“Anna, it's far too dangerous to bring her home.” Her brother said as he turned away.
“JACKSON STOP I AM NOT LEAVING UNTIL YOU PICK THIS POOR GIRL UP AND WE TREAT TO HER WOUNDS!” Jackson stopped and sighed.
“When did you get so bossy, but fine we will take her,” Jackson said walking over to Lizzy and picking her up, and walked to their house as Anna skipped behind her brother.
Jackson and Anna walked a little way on a path until reaching a whiter a grey little cottage with blue and red flowers lined up in front of the house. There was smoke coming from the chimney. Jackson looked down to see Lizzy solfty beathing indicating that she was alive and just asleep. They arrived on a grarve like pathway leading up to the door.
“Anna, can you open the door?” Jackson asked, stopping at a door.
“Of course brother,” Anna said, opening the door, walking in with her brother following behind her.
“Welcome back your highnesses, oh what do we have here?” A maid came out of the kitchen looking at confused at Lizzy.
“Hello Birtha I don’t know, but she’s hurt. Anna found her on our walk and insisted we tend to her wounds. They look pretty deep,” Jackson said, setting Lizzy down on a black and gray couch.
“Of course I’ll tend to her wounds, anyway your parents wanted to see you.” Birtha sat down next to Lizzy with a bowl of warm water and a cloth.
“Of course I’ll head there now. Can you keep an eye on Anna?” Jackson asked.
“Of course your highness,” Birtha smiled while getting the cloth wet.
“Great Anna you stay with Birtha I will be right back, help her with anything she needs involving the girl.” Jackson walked out the door.
“This poor girl, I wonder what happened.” Birtha sighed, cleaning the blood off of Lizzy’s head and wrapping it up with a bandage.
“Anna I’m going to put her in your room for now after all she should wake up soon,” Birtha said, picking Lizzy up and heading towards Anna’s room, and laying her on the bed.
“I grabbed her stuff well I hope it's her stuff it was laying by her,” Anna said, placing her stuff beside the bed.
“Ah thank you, little princess, anyway I should be making dinner for you and your brother,” Birtha said, taking a bow and leaving the room. Anna looked at Lizzy and sat down on a chair that was close to the bed waiting for her to wake up.
3 hours later… “Ouch my head, Ugh...wait I feel comfy am I in a bed, oh no my parents caught me.” Lizzy jolted up sweating. “This isn’t my room.”
“Ah, you’re finally awake, I was beginning to worry.” Lizzy looked at the girl that came in Lizzy backed up towards the head of the bed. “Oh, I’m sorry dear I didn’t mean to scare you.” Birtha smiled and placed down a tray of food.
“I brought you some food, you can eat it whenever you want. It's some berries and fruit.” The maid moved the tray towards Lizzy. “My name is Birtha if you need anything, oh, and whenever your ready you can come out and explore.” Birtha smiled and left the room.
Lizzy looked around the room. Black curtains covered the window with a little light coming breaking free from it. The walls were painted a dark grey, she looked down at the grey and black covers. Lizzy moved towards the tray and grabbed a berry and sniffed it. “Oh, my favorite it’s blackberries,” Lizzy said, throwing it in her mouth and eating everything off the tray before looking at the door. Lizzy got up and walked towards the door and as she was about to open it she heard another door open and a person speaking.
“Your highness your back was everything okay with your parents.” It sounded like Birtha, Lizzy kept listening, cracking the door an inch where she saw a boy huff and threw himself on the couch.
“Of course Birtha it is the same old, same old they talk about me being king blah blah, blah. That's all they call me for now.” The boy said as a little girl sat beside him and snuggled his arm.
“Jackson, you want to be king and you know they have a lot of responsibilities they just want to make sure you're ready for the responsibility.” The little girl said.
“Anna’s right young highness being king has its ups and downs,” Birtha said, walking over to Anna and placing a crown on her head. “Anna, your parents will be angry with you if you keep forgetting your crown.” Birtha sighed as Anna giggled and apologized.
Lizzy took a deep breath and opened the door as it looked like she just woke up as the light hit her eyes.
“Ah you're up and around come I’ll make you some tea, uh I’m sorry honey what's your name?” Birtha rubbed the back of her neck. Lizzy thought about saying her real name, but she didn’t know these people.
“My name is uh Sarah yes it’s Sarah.” Lizzy chuckled nervously.
“Ah well it's nice to meet you, Sarah, anyway-’ *knock, knock* “I will answer that,” Birtha said walking to the door and opening it revealed a man and two guards side by side.
“Ah, Birtha can we come in? We have news about the Azov Kingdom.” A man said as Lizzy perked her head up.
“Oh of course come in come in.” Birtha moved out of the door frame allowing them in.
Everyone sat down on the couch as Birtha handed out tea and brought some cookies from the kitchen and sat them on the table in front of the couch. “Go on with the news..” Jackson said as the man bowed, took out a piece of paper, and started reading.
“It was heard from the townspeople that Princess Lizzy ran away yesterday evening. Her parents are devastated and everyone is on a hunt for her. A friend of Lizzy’s claims that she jumped out the window and possibly headed towards the wall.” The man said, pulling the paper down from his face.
Everyone gasped beside Lizzy. She just looked down. “Oh my, a princess running away, that's terrible I wish we could help.” Birtha’s worried voice making Anna get up and takes Birtha’s hand to comfort her.
“There was other news that she might have gone towards the wall and possibly jumped it.” The man started taking a bow.
“It’s far too dangerous for a princess to be here, especially from another kingdom. If she is here then we need to find her before she gets kidnapped or killed.” Jackson stood up.
“Your highness you need magic to get near the wall she couldn’t possibly make it up the wall. The parents said that their child didn’t have nor ever get magic.” The man said.
“Well, we must look even if it’s impossible,” Jackson said. He looked at Lizzy seeing her with her head down, not saying anything.
“Alright, sir we’re starting tomorrow anyway that is all we will take our leave.” The man said bowing once more and leaving the door behind them.
He looked at Lizzy seeing her with her head down, not saying anything.
“Sarah um I’m sorry I know you’re still injured but may you please help us look for the lost princess, she will not survive out here long my people outside of the kingdom aren’t so nice. Since she doesn’t have powers they will surely kill her within minutes. So will you help?” Jackson asked as Lizzy looked up.
“Um...sure, but before we go can I change out of this outfit into something more traveling-like?” Lizzy pointed to her ripped blood-stained dress.
“Oh of course we will start looking in the morning for now you should take a shower and get into comfy clothes and get some sleep,” Jackson said as Birtha walked in front of Lizzy.
“Oh come child I’ll get the shower running for your clothes should be in the room you were in,” Birtha said walking away towards the bathroom.
“Ooooo we’re sharing rooms yayaya.” Lizzy looked down and saw Anna jumping up and down with excitement in her eyes.
“Anna, I think we should leave her for the night,” Jackson suggested.
“Oh alright. Anna huffed and sat on the couch.
Lizzy followed Birtha into the bathroom and sat on the totlet seat.
"My dear if you need anything don't be afraid to call out, I'll leave you some clothes on the counter and a towel." Birtha turned around to face Lizzy and smiled.
"Oh okay thank you Birtha i really appreciate your help." Lizzy took a quick bow.
"No problem dear come out whenever your done, I'll have dinner out shorty." Birtha said opening the door and smiled, leaving Lizzy to herself.
