(Chapter 5) A Game of Man Hunt Might be Fun

"I'm an idiot" Ian thought gloomily as he lied on the old bed

"When the pill killed her mother, I should have known she would seek revenge, If I left some clues as to my identity she would start hunting me!" Ian thought back as he rolled frustrated around the bed

"Now I need to go look for her and plant some clues for her, ahhhh so annoying. I wanted to check up on the sin blade wielder today" Ian continued ranting in his mind

Today was Ian's day off as a guard, so as per usual there is NOTHING to do. What Ian originally intended to do was watch the sin blade wielders development and see if any adjustments were needed. But then the conversation from yesterday about that Spring Backer girl seeking revenge popped back into his head.

"I cannot let this chance to have something so actively entertaining go to waste!" Ian stood up and gathered his bearings as he stormed out the door

As Ian walked through the castle he passed the training yard entrance, staring regretfully before turning his head and continuing towards the exit.

Yawning Ian walked along the streets looking for a sketchy alley to disguise himself in. Of course, in the capital said alleyways are practically everywhere, so the search did not last long.

Disguising himself as a young man similar but slightly different to his possessed body, Ian walked to the place of the mother's death. How did he find out where the girls house was? Rumors of course! This damn city would talk about anything or anyone as if it was the only thing that mattered in their lives.

Approaching the gloomy hut only two guards were posted at the door, practically sleeping while standing. Concealing his existence Ian walked passed the guards and into the hut, lightly closing the door under their noses.

"Wow, I guess the 1st grade corpse explosion pill is a bit overkill on mortal bodies" Ian thought being quite shocked at the scene.

"I guess I should plant some clues or... What's this? Ian stared in shock at the blue light floating above the bed

"Her mother's soul? It should have dispersed by now how did it. The formation! it actually clung onto the energy of the formation!" Ian excited that he could fix his mistake grabbed the soul and placed within a soul bottle.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

"Now then, I should collect these remains as well. It’s the best material to help rebuild her mother's body" Ian snapped his fingers, causing all of the blood, bone, and brain matter around the room to gather into the form of a single bottle stopper

Placing this stopper onto the soul bottle sealing the soul within Ian thought about how to continue from this point on.

"I should leave a note saying someone stole her mother's remains and that I have a clue, I think I will be presenting her a healthy and happy mother if she manages to find me is a good reward" Ian reveled in this thought with great satisfaction

Placing a piece of thin paper onto the wall over the bed Ian once again using the surrounding mana burned the words

"Dear Spring Baker, I have just witnessed someone using some odd magic steal the corpse of your mother. I saw the man running towards the imperial castle. He could be a servant, guard or a guest, as to which I do not know. I only wish for you to find the man who did this to you."

- Anonymous

Placing another formation so the note is only visible to Spring, Ian turned to face the door

"Now it is time to make a scene" Ian thought. Revealing his existence Ian bolted for the door and smashed through. Creating an explosive sound that easily woke up the guards.

"You! stop right there!" The guard shouted his scripted line

Ignoring the guard Ian outran the guards and went off into the castles general direction before turning into an alleyway and removing his disguise.

Watching the guards run by, Ian casually walked back to the castle. Where he would spend the remainder of his day

Ian woke up the next day already knowing what was going to happen. He could feel it in his fucking bones. And that was...

Standing once again amongst the group of guards with the now permanent stiff smile he has when around these "peers". Listening to the daily gossip once again, obviously about the recent corpse theft

"Why do they keep dragging me into this group, we aren't even friends!" Ian thought with dismay

"So, what's the motive with this one" one guard began

"Can't be necrophilia the corpse was blown up, nothing left to fuck" one guard said out of nowhere

"The fuck? No! Why did you even mention that!? Can we at least go over the NORMAL theories before going there!" The captain blurted

The guards turned to the captain beginning to stare in horror as the captain was definitely NOT in the group earlier, and usually would yell at them for having their "gossip groups". The captain, seeing their horror at his presence coughed lightly before adding

"Well, anyone got any decent theories?" The captain asked the guards

The guards began to with the permission of their captain spout many odd, normal, or like the one earlier just plain stupid. After about 10 minutes of these endless stream of theories the captain suddenly said

"By the way I'm still cutting your salaries this week" He stated casually before walking off

Groaning in displeasure the group separated

Walking down his usual guard route Ian noticed people walking into the "conspiracy" room before closing the door.

"I guess I'm a little early" Ian thought casually as he passed the door

Suddenly he heard a cup shatter and a rumble of footsteps as people poured out of the room. All of their faces painted in sweat and anxiousness.

"Well at least they saw my advice, let's hope they take it" Ian thought as he continued down the hall
