Trainee Log, Trainee Amano Noboru
Location, Base Cronos
I WOKE UP TO THE SOUND OF THUNDER,
I was frightened at first but remembered why I was at this base. I am at Base Cronos, 1,200 miles away from the Kyushu region in the pacific ocean. Ever since the war started back in 2035, millions of lives were lost at the cost of this war effort. Japan created a new program just three years ago, calling it the Pilot Division Program.
How people were chosen to be within this program was at first by military standards, the first “Pilots” were chosen by military recommendations and specialized training. Eventually the program found out that younger and more “suitable” Pilots were teenagers, teenagers that had access to a variety of technological breakthroughs and technological understandings.
That’s how I ended up in the program, but as a Sixteen year old kid, who was taken in at the consent of my parents. I felt like I was just drafted, I wasn’t even at the age to even be drafted, but somehow it felt like I was getting drafted into something I didn’t sign up for.
“Hey! We’re here trainee!” A Stern, Hardened voice was heard from the officer that was accompanying me.through the helicopter flight from the mainland to Base Cronos. The rutter of the helicopter began to slow down, I turned my head over to my small military bag, picking it up as my required equipment was in the bag.
The door of the helicopter then opened, a tall, medal’d out, military general was at the door.
“Are you Amano Noboru?”
“Yes, I am”
The general and I both exchanged sentences, as the general seemed pleased to have me on this base. As soon as I got out of the helicopter, It began to rev up again, taking off and going back the same direction it just came from. I stared at the helicopter leaving as I turned my attention back to the base’s front. I was in absolute shock at the massive size the base was standing on, seeing hangars that were twice or even quintuple the size of a normal hangar.
“S-Sir, Where am I?”
I asked the general with a nervous tone, unsure about what the Pilot Program was about, but the General just kept walking. I followed the general into the large hangar as we entered through a door, I turned my attention upwards, seeing an enormous mech just towering over everyone and everything.
“This way Trainee, don’t get sidetracked!” The General shouted as I said in response “Y-Yes sir!”, running towards the general and seeing his nametag plastered in black letterings on his jacket. The General’s name on his jacket said “Shō”, I then pieced it together as my brain thought of his name as “General Shō”.
----------------------------------------
We then got into an elevator, with a female trainee getting out of said elevator when it arrived. She passed me and all I could do was to just stare at her, stunned at her beauty. She had long silky black hair, a perfect tone of peachy pale skin, and silver snow eyes. The General however, didn’t like my act, making me turn my attention away from her by pulling me into the elevator.
“Sir…Who was that back there..?” I asked him, anxious about the girl that passed by us. “She is none of your concern” his response was, sounding more grim and harsher tone about it.
The Elevator then opened as they had reached their destination. “Go and change into your trainee clothes, meet me at the northeast hall when you are done.” the general commanded as I nodded, since it was the only thing I was capable of understanding. I stepped into the mens/boys changing room, seeing that there was no one inside, I sighed in relief thinking to myself that it was a blessing no one was here to see me.
I set my bag down on a bench, opening the bag and seeing the uniform that the trainees of the program were given. I took it out and saw that the uniform was a normal military trainee uniform, with some white and black lines going down the shoulder and sleeve of the uniform. I took off my shirt and pants, putting on the uniform as the uniform was voice coded.
“Analyzing bio-genetics” a robotic voice said out of the uniform, as a green light was scanning the inside of the uniform. It then blinked blue as the robotic voice came back. “Analysis is complete, I look forward to working with you. Amano Noboru, Your code name is Wolfs-bane”. Wolfs-bane? I thought to myself as I shrugged it off, putting on the uniquely made boots and fingerless gloves.
The last thing in the bag was a pair of shaded glasses, I took them out and looked at them confused, deciding to put them in my pocket for the time being. I walked out of the changing room and saw that the uniform had adjusted to my liking of clothing. Due to that bio-analysis, the military base had full information on my background, size, etc. I walked towards the Northeast hall, like the general said.
I heard footsteps approaching the turn, as the footsteps seemed to be in a hurry. I turned the corner to see who was running and bumped into another trainee. Both of us fell down, with paper packets all over the ground. “I-I’m so sorry!” the trainee said, quickly sitting up and collecting the papers.
I also sat up saying “It’s okay, I was making my way-” as my sentence was cut off seeing the person I had bumped into. The Trainee was a girl with glasses, seemingly in a different uniform than the normal trainee uniforms as she had emerald green eyes and bubblegum pink hair. “Here, let me help” I said to her as I began to help her pick up the packets. After some time, the packets were placed back into the box she was carrying, I picked up the box and helped her carry the packets to her destination. “Thank you for helping me” she said in a light and soft tone, My face flustered a bit from the compliment.
We then reached the destination as I looked at her, fixing her long hair into a ponytail. “Whats…What’s your name?” I asked her as she turned her attention to me. “It’s...Hiroshi” she said in the same soft and light tone, blessing my ears from her soft tone. “N-nice to meet you Hiroshi…” I said to her with a bit of blush, scurrying away before she could properly ask anything.
----------------------------------------
I then arrived at the northeast hall as the general was still waiting for me. I bowed to him and apologized to him in full, explaining the situation I encountered on the way there. The general sighed, letting me off with it saying “You helped another trainee at least, you have that part down” as he opened the door that he was standing next to.
I looked inside as he pushed me into the room, I scooted in the room because there were a total of 8 people in the room as well. I scanned around the room, seeing their uniforms were just like mine, realizing they were also trainees. “Alright listen up!” the general said, stepping into the room and closing the door behind him, “This is your new teammate, his name is Amano, treat him well alright” as the leader of the group nodded.
“Alright, I better not hear anymore commotion out of you 8!” the general commanded as all of the trainees (Besides me) shouted “YES SIR!”, bowing. The general then left the room as I stood out like a sore thumb, being the new person in the room.

The room was split up evenly before I showed up, it was 4 guys and 4 girls, now the room is 5 guys and 4 girls. “H-Hello..” I muttered out to the group, they all seemed quite a bunch of personalities bunched into one room. “Well hey there!” one of the guys said as he walked up to me and patted my back. “My Name is Seki, Nice to meet you Amano!” The man with the joyish personality said to me, Seki is a 5’7 teenager, really athletic with a joyful personality, trying to keep the group’s positivity up whenever things go down. His charm works like a butterfly, everyone in the room is fine having Seki around, besides one person. Seki has this weird hair color that strands of his hair are a different color than his dirt-brown hair, but his eyes gleam with joy of a golden yellow color.
“I guess we’re doing introductions now..” A more stoic and deeper voice said towards us, as he walked up and Seki moved away. “My name is Kumagai.” he said, letting his hand out towards me, I shook his hand and noticed that he had scars on his hand. Kumagai stands at a tall 6’2, also athletic by how muscular his wrist is. His hair color is a grass-like shade of green and amethyst purple eyes. We all then heard footsteps coming towards our room, I turned to look at the door, backing up towards Seki and saw the door open. The person who opened the door was the same girl that I had encountered back up on the elevator. My heart began to race as I couldn’t believe that she was here.
She turned her attention to me, noticing my hairstyle (which is wavy to the right) and asked “Are you the new guy?”. I nodded in quick response, as she then looked at the rest of the group. “We have a training session, let’s go” she said with a rougher tone, everyone in the group followed her out of the room and towards the training area, Myself included. We walked down the hallway and onto a bridge, the bridge itself was sturdy, able to hold up a full crowd. I looked over my shoulder and saw that same mech again, but at its hand this time, it was still amazing on how this was still made.
We then made our way to the training room, the inside of the room held two containers, each container able to hold two people at a time. “Alright, we’ll be choosing partners for this training session” the leading trainee said, as the group began to choose their partners. I was left looking around, trying to find Seki, knowing he was a good person and probably my best bet of making it through this training day. When my eyes spotted Seki, he was already partnered up with another guy, the numbers shortened down from a group of 9 to a group of 4 with me being the only one left out. “I should have gone to Seki first..” I thought to myself, doubting myself even more, and then it hit me. The leading Trainee didn’t have a partner to partner up with.
0820 : 8:20 A.M.
I walked up to her casually, asking her “Do you have a partner?” as she just looked at me with a glare. She then scanned around the room again, seeing that everyone else had a partner, she sighed and patted my shoulder. “Alright then, I’ll be your partner for the time being” she said as my joy was beyond what I could hold in. “Thank you! I won’t disappoint you!” I said out of excitement, hoping to know her. “Amano and Tanaka, step forward.” a computer voice said as we both stepped forward. “So her last name is Tanaka..” I mumbled, as a Hologram showed up in-front of both of us.
“Synchronizing Suit Pair” the Holographic AI said, as both of our suits began to glow a wide variety of colors before stopping at one color, Crimson red. “Synchronizing paired, You two will be training Pilots Rogue-1” the AI said again, I was confused about the name, since I had never heard of the name “Rogue-1” on the mainland before. I looked over to Tanaka as she seemed excited to be training with Rogue-1. “Inaba Twins, step forward” as a guy and a girl walked up as both of them had the same height of 5 '8, same hair color of smoke gray hair, and red-orange eyes. “Synchronizing paired, you two will be training pilots of Delta Kosho G1.” the AI said as the twins walked over to one side, and we walked to the other side.
----------------------------------------
The Sync of our suits then kicked in, with both of our movements being perfectly in-sync with each other. “This feels weird” I commented as she replied “this is your first time, it always feels weird, don’t worry about it. You’ll get the hang of it”. A metallic barrier then closed down on us, with lights lighting up the inside and a Hud lit up. “This is a Simulation of fight scenarios you and your partner will have to work together through.” The AI said to both parties, “This simulation will give you an almost realistic scenario on the battlefield, goodluck pilots” the AI said one last time before we were virtually dropped into the battlefield. Our feet had been clamped down by our boots and acted as our stabilizers. Our virtual version of Rouge-1 had landed into the battlefield, in what seemed to be the Kanto region of Japan. Even though this was a scenario event virtually made up, it felt too real by how much destruction there was in this made up scenario.
Tanaka then saw another Mech on the other side, as she said “Enemy Pilot spotted, 2 miles from us Amano '' as I turned my head to also see the Mech. Tanaka and I walked towards the mech due to our synced suits, with rogue-1 slowly but surely reaching its destination. The Mech on the other hand also began walking towards us, with every step we took the mech took a step that was slightly delayed due to its enormous size. “Almost there…” Tanaka said as Rogue-1 reached its destination. I was overall scared to death. For a first time piloting without any prior knowledge, it felt all too real to even fight in a virtual standpoint. We raised our guard up and blocked a punch that had devastated Rogue-1’s right arm, still functional but missing pieces of its arm. We then threw a punch back at the Mech, hitting it square on the face and trying to follow up the punch with a hidden blade that was part of Rogue-1’s arsenal.
We clenched our right fist, as I clicked a marker on the hologram in-front of us then said “Hidden Blade optimized and active” as the hidden blade came out just above the Rogue-1’s knuckles. We threw a right punch, thinking we'd won the fight, but we were wrong. The mech moved in time, skimming the metallic exterior of its face and leaning forward towards us, using its left arm to reach out to rogue one’s face and grab onto it. Without a second thought, the mech then slammed the face and pushed the entire body of rogue-1 down onto the ground. The mech then stood up and stomped down onto rogue-1’s chest and fusion core. “We need to do something quick Tanaka” I said to her as she said “activate the jet propulsors” as I did just that. A blasting sound then went off pushing us straight up, onto the mech’s raised foot and threw the mech off balance.
I then deactivated the jet propulsors, with us then throwing the right punch again, hitting the mech in the chest and piercing its armor, slamming it down onto its back. We pulled back our hand, pulling out the hidden blade and punching again onto the glass face of the mech, ending the pilots inside. “Simulation is now over” The same AI said again, deactivating the simulation and the metal walls came up. The other team looked over at us, walking over towards us. “Great fight” the twins said to both Tanaka and I. I took the compliment rather well and Tanaka replied “You two also did well, keep up the good work” as they walked off towards the other groups. I was just observing this group I was thrown into by the general by this point, rather than seeing it as a bunch of random teenagers. I saw it as a small family learning to still be a family.
2200 : 10:00 P.M.
It was dark outside, we had time to ourselves so I spent my time outside, learning about the base and why teenagers like us were chosen. After reading logs that we were able to read, The Pilot Division Program looks for specific requirements in humans, specifically younger generations. The program looks for more advanced knowledge about technology, basically geniuses in technology. Since our generation (Generation S) has more hands-on experience with newer technology, we are more likely to think and act more proficiently with technological advancements. I stood outside, cold but staring up at the dark sky. The night sky was sprinkled all over with stars, both big and small. Shooting stars passed by while I looked up there, I quickly made the decision to make a wish about it. Even though I’m on an Adult military base, I’m still a teenager, and I still think like one too.
After a while of standing outside, I walked back into the base, heading towards the boys dormitories, where all the guys on the base sleep and wake up. But the Pilot Program has a unique place for trainees to sleep and wake up at, We are given a building that both genders have to share. One side is the guys and the other side is girls, color coded in deep blue and deep purple. Each trainee was given a duffle bag, holding a warm blanket, a pillow and spare clothes that were donated, washed, and dried. I unpacked my bag, taking out the blanket and pillow, but looking at the clothes that were given to me. My casual clothes I’m allowed to sleep in are camo colored shorts with gray t-shirt. “Not my style… but it’ll have to do” I thought to myself, getting a shower, and sleeping in for the night.
This is Amano Noboru of the 10th Pilot Division, Signing out on my first log.
