Ch 24: June The Last of The Sylphans?

Awakening in a cold and damp area, unsure of what is, and if this is a true reality or one conjured up by my freshly woken mind. Nothing. I remember nothing before this moment and not what happened before waking up in this world?

“Did the resurrection fail? Why can’t I remember anything?”

The only memories in my head are of resurrection and that I’m the last of the Slyphans, and my name is June. Last, the most important memory in this new head is to find Emelia.

A door opens up.

This reality I woke up in seems to be one of captivity? But why am I here? My head screams for me to find Emelia. She’s my mission.

But how do I escape?

A man in a suit walks up to me with a platter of food and sets it on a small table in between the bars. He slides it open and puts the food inside.

Ahh, an opportunity has knocked. I shall accept this gift, dear Mother.

Grabbing the man with the food by the hands, I slam his head against the bars and it knocks him out cold.

Pulling his body closer, my faith didn’t fail, and the man had the keys.

Opening the door causes it to creak slowly to a crawl. My surroundings seem to be empty, but the man came to feed me. that’s obvious I am the only one in this cell.

“Well, guess I’m free.” I bow to the air.

“Dear Mother, thank you for your humble gift. I am not worthy. How can I do your bidding?” A stir in the air gives me the answer I want.

“Very well, mother. I will search high and low until I turn this city upside down.” Mother, I shall search high and low until I find her and we stop Phoenix from rising from his pit of ashes.

Then I go to the door upstairs and open it to the world once more.

“Let’s not waste this second chance... June.” That’s what my memories say: You are June, the coming of summer.

“Thank you for the name whoever created me.”

Outside, I notice I’m underdressed compared to the surrounding people. I find I’m in a white cotton shirt and blue cotton scrappy pants.

“Must find clothes,” I say to myself and walk around till I find a cloth line and grab myself a new outfit.

“This makes me a thief, but I’m to save lives, yes? So mother, does this make me lesser in thine eyes?” I feel no kiss from the wind.

“No answer very well. I’ll take that as a no.” I put on the clothes in a small alley.

I put on a set of brown pants that go to my ankles, loafers, a grey t-shirt, a grey cloak, a jacket, and a scarf.

“Good. If my captors are around, they may notice me. The scarf should help slightly cover my face.” Then I go for my walk to find Emelia.

Walking through the city, I notice everyone is very much not in their correct of minds.

“Mother, what witchery has this town fallen prey to?” No air caresses my cheek.

“You’re not sure yourself. That’s why you don’t answer, maybe?” With that thought, I study the patterns of the people.

A man walks side to side wearing holes in his shoes. A woman pokes at an invisible something. There is nothing in front of her. Why is she poking the air?

Two others do strange things like invisible strings control them.

“Maybe that’s what it is, puppetry magic, a skilled user of it as well.”

Must find Emelia. I feel myself pulled in one direction toward a church building.

The wind kisses my cheek, telling me I am in the correct place to find Emelia.

“I will save Emelia, even though I can’t find the puppeteer.”

With that, I walk off to the flicker of Emelia’s magic, who seems to be hurt.

I am coming to Emelia. I know not why you’re my mission. That’s a question for the Mother and my creator to know.

After walking through the sad excuse of a city. I feel pity for these people who are dead but just puppets pulled by a thread of Fate they did not ask to be given.

“This world is sick and dying. We must stop the Flame of Phoenix before it arrives.”

Another prayer to the Mother and I find the door to Emelia’s place of residence.

Wonder where the Master Puppeteer is? They’re very skilled if they can hide from my Slyphan eyes. If I’m correct, someone ought to have locked this door. The door creaking open surprises me. “Well seems I’m expected mother. Let us accept this invitation. Pardon me for entering."

With my invitation, I walk inside and close the door behind me gently.

“You seem to have me directly in your trap.”

I hear a shuffle from up the stairs in the darkroom.

You might be reading a pirated copy. Look for the official release to support the author.

“Baah, no fun. You saw my trick from miles away.” I see a girl in a pink skirt and nice brown hair stand above me.

“You must be the Puppeteer?” I ask, and she curtsies.

“That’s me, Angelica Coldwind, at your service.” She seems very proper for one so young even though I am but a day old.

“A Nobel I presume?” I ask, and she nods.

“Father owned a lot of stocks in metal companies, Mother sold medicine and made us very wealthy.”

She curtsies again.

“You know why I’ve come, I’m sure?” The girl nods and sighs.

“Another cattle come for my sweet Princess Emelia. Sorry sister, she is my bitch. Get your own.” She swings her hands and I can feel strings wrap around my arms, trying to rip me in two.

I struggle against the bindings for a minute, but my strength does not compare.

“No one can break my strings with physical strength. They’re made from New Metal's strongest metal in existence.”

She smirks.

“Angelica. We’re evenly matched. This battle could hurt Emelia. Could we take this somewhere farther away?”

With a surge, I release a ton of magic to burn through her strings.

“You think I’m going to let you take me to a place you have an advantage Ha. Don’t take me for a fool.” She sniffs at my proposal.

I shake my head. “No, please pick for us.”

She chuckles." Very well. May I ask your name before you die?"

“June, just June.” I don’t have a last name from what my memory says.

“Very well, there’s a park a kilometer from here. Let’s go.”

She wraps more strings around me and drags me through the wall to the outside.

Once outside, she stops.

“Hahaha, eat the gravel, bitch!”

Angelica screams, then slams my face into the road below me. With a sigh, I summon my magic and it burns through the strings with high magic concentration.

“Angelica, I can burn through your magic as mine is, Magma.” I tell her.

With a magma blast, it roars through the air and rips through her frail body and shreds into just string.

“Ahh, you’re a Teric user, your body is made of your magic type, yes?” She uses her strings to pull herself to a rooftop of a home. She looks down at me disdainfully.

“How did you know that?” I notice a hint of fear in her eyes at my knowledge of Teric users.

“Teric’s were a failed experiment by Robert Teric who made the bodies from ordinary non organic materials and spliced in mzynes to bind to the very essence of the material until they became anthropomorphic. “

Her string shoots towards I ready myself for the block this time.

Good, she’s angered.

Launching another strike much quicker this time, she doesn’t get time to dodge this one as it knocks her back a mile.

“Good, a little breather. Before she gets back, I used too much magic burning through her strings,” I say to myself.

“June! Die!” She blasts from her spot in the blink of an eye.

Angelica hits me like a horse, going full speed. Her small spear dagger stabs me right in the ribs.

“Graaah!” The pain shreds my nerves and rattles my brain.

I give her a bear hug and fall backwards, slamming her head into the ground behind me. She recovers quickly and shoots a ton of strings at me. Her hands glow, and she launches another attack at me. Hundred of tiny strings pointed to a razor tip fly towards me. I clap my hands off the ground and it rumbles.

Magma shoots up from the ground. It rises to become a giant shield, and it burns her attack. Angelica punches me in the face, causing a tooth to fly out! Recovering, I summon magic to my right hand and it heats up and I slap Angelica at sonic speed.

She flies through a building, and I summon my wings. They come made of flames!

Screaming, I summon my wings and fly after her. Flying above her still flying body, I summon.

“Mother, I summon your soldier Typhon, the Magma Immortal!”

The ground rumbles and buildings fall to pieces and the ground opens up wide and lava bubbles to the top like an overflowing cauldron. Then, standing ten meters tall, Typhon rises from his slumber once again to wreak havoc on his enemies. Angelica scrambles away as she stares up at the immortal being in front of her. As she stares up at the immortal being in front of her, she sees the depths of eternal hellfire in its eyes, knowing that’s where it intends to send her.

Typhon raises his hands to the skies above and roars to the heavens as a large geyser of lava erupts from the ground and, with a wave of his hands, the lava slams on top of Angelica.

She screams bloody murder as the lava swallow’s her up hungry for her soul. With another shout, she launches out of the lava towards me. She shoots up through the Magma and half her face is gone. It’s just muscle and tendons. She glows a dark purple, then two puppets fly from across the city and she summons strings and they attach to the puppets.

There are blades on both hands of one puppet, the other one has a giant hammer.

“Well, this should be an interesting showdown, Angelica.”

My magic is running out need to finish this fast.

The sky darkens as I focus on the mzynes in the air to work for me.

“Typhon, burn this city to cinders.” Sorry to all you who have been trapped under her spell now you are free.

The two puppets fly at me in a final attempt to finish me off, but even though Angelica is strong, she is finished.

Typhon shoots a large sphere of magma into the sky then in the darkness of the clouds it lights up with a gleam of orange sucking up parts of the darkness. Then hell itself rains down to the earth below.

The puppets get crushed, Angelica gets crushed as well, and half the city goes up in flames.

No screams from the people as they burn their voices stolen from them. Homes burned to the ground and explode from each hit of the Magma spheres.

“Dear Mother, forgive me, for I have sinned.” I fly to the ground and land in the flood of fire.

“Angelica is not dead, I fear, but it gives me enough time to find Emelia and her friends and escape this city.

Heading back to the city, I see some people are all laid back on the ground.

“Ahh, some survived well. They are free from her spell, I hope. Hopefully, they can find peace and rebuild the city.”

Back at the mansion, I find Emelia outside, staring at the city and the flames.

“You destroyed the city?” She said, not looking at me.

Her eyes burn from anger or the flames.

“Yes, it was the only way to stop Angelica.” Then she tackles me to the ground, a dagger made of wind at my throat.

“Is this what you wish to do with me?” I ask her, and she pushes the daggers deeper against my throat.

“I’m tired of people dying because of me. That’s why I heard you guys talking from the basement. You’re looking for me, yes?” She said, removing the dagger from my throat.

Her eyes still burn with a dark flame. Something unhuman dances behind her eyes.

“Yes, I do not know why I’m new to the land of the living. I believe you are my mission, but I can not tell you why.” Her eyes return to their normal pink color.

“Fine, who are you? Are you the one the Queen wanted me to find?” She asks me getting off. I stand up and bow.

“I am June The Last of the Slyphans. Yes, I believe I am who you are looking for because my memories all point to you. You’re my mission to find and join your crew.” She nods.

“Fine, let’s go. We need to find my friends.” Right before we head off, a group of people pop into existence in front of us.

“Found you, Emmy!” A dark-skinned girl runs up and hugs Emelia.

“You okay? What the hell happened?” The girl asks.

“June here fought Angelica and had to destroy the city, I guess.” She doesn’t hold me in high regards. It seems I shall discover why.

“Glad to see you are okay, Emelia.” A tall girl with a large eastern sword on her back pats Emelia on the shoulder.

“Emelia, good to see you a live.” A boy in thick leather armor and a bow on his back bows to her.

“So explain who this is?” Everyone looks at me.

“I am June. Glad to meet you. I shall join you on your journey.”

“She is powerful, so she is who we were looking for,” Emelia says.

“Hmm, very well I trust your judgment, so I guess it’s onwards to Madrin City. It is very far ten days away. We should easily come across a few more soldiers who can join us.”

Everyone nods. And thus our journey to the City of The Fate Donavon Begins.
