James slowly moved the dagger forward. As the pointy end got closer, the man didn’t make any move to dodge it.
Jame’s eyes rapidly switched between the dagger and the man, carefully watching both.
When the dagger finally reached the man, the black fabric moved back without ripping until the dagger tapped the skin of the man.
There wasn’t enough power behind it to injure anyone, or at least that's what James thought.
For a few seconds, nothing happened. He stared at the man and the man stared back at him.
Just as James was about to say something, a force hit in the chest and caused him to fall backward. The dagger left his hand and flew off into the distance.
“Wha?” A blinding light hit James and he forced his eyes to close. His question was lost as a high-pitched noise was heard coming from all around. The noise was so loud that, even with James covering his ears with his hands, he could feel something wet trickling down.
In all directions that he could see, light shined through. Combined with the noise, it looked like the world, or this world was coming to an end.
James had never been in a dungeon before, but even he could feel that this was not normal.
After a few seconds had passed, the noise and the light got weaker. His ears were still ringing and he couldn’t hear anything, but he could barely make out shapes with his eyes.
Squinting, he looked at where the man just was. All he could see was the mountain range top away.
The man had completely disappeared without a trace.
James tried to sit up to get a better look around, but then a barrage of notifications appeared before him, and soon after his body began to hurt.

James felt a burning sensation from deep inside him. Something was being ripped away from within his body. The pain was excruciating and was worse than anything that he ever felt before.
“AHHHHHH!” James screamed unable to do anything about the pain. Small tears formed in his eyes subconsciously and trickled down his face. His thoughts were all completely stopped and the only thing that he could feel and think about was the pain.

The notifications in front of him went unnoticed as he couldn’t remember seeing them before. Even if he did, his mind wouldn’t have enough power to properly process what it was saying in the first place.
The pain didn’t lessen, instead, it got worse. James started to feel hotter and hotter and different parts of his body already started to feel numb.
Stream started to rise out of his body as the heat got worse and worse. His body was literally being cooked alive from within.
After a few more seconds of screaming, James finally stopped. His eyes closed and his breathing grew even.
But the steam coming out of his body continued and only got worse over time.
Somewhere close,
Anden continued to stand guard near the entrance of the dungeon.
It was a boring post, so was being assigned to this camp. Other than the regular criminals being tossed in, there was little other action that ever took place. Maybe a stray weak monster came by once a week.
But, compared to the rest of the forest and other places in the city, this place was safe. The last guard to have died there was an old man who ate a poisoned berry a few years ago.
The only reason that they were here was to ensure that no criminals escape and also ensure that nothing came out of the dungeon.
No person or monster had ever come out, but other dungeons in different kingdoms sometimes had powerful monsters getting out into the world.
Anden believed that if anything did come out, it would most likely not be stopped by the ten or so guards. But he kept that to himself.
He stood ten feet away from the large rock and faced outward. In the past, people who had stood any closer had sometimes entered the dungeon by accident, so people didn’t get any closer to the rock than they had to.
Anden covered his mouth as he yawned. It was another boring day without anything interesting happening. He looked around, trying to see if anyone was watching him and when he found no one, he closed his eyes.
Just as he was about to fall asleep standing up, he heard a rumbling noise from behind him.
Figuring it was nothing, he ignored it. But the sound continued and the ground began to shake.
His eyes snapped open and looked behind him. From what he could see, there weren't any changes to the rock or the scenery around him. There was no monster that he could see that could be the cause.
But as he continued to watch, deep cracks appeared in the blue color of the rock. They spread and covered the entire surface of the ball-shaped rock. They were hard to see because of the color of the rock, but Anden spent a long time in this camp and there wasn’t anything interesting to look at other than the entrance, so he was able to easily identify the changes that were happening.
The sound of rocks grinding against each other was heard and became louder as more cracks appeared.
It was going to explode!
Anden turned around and started to run away. He wasn’t cut out for this. As if his life was on the line, he ran while flinging his arms in all directions and screaming at the top of his lungs.
“Mommy!” His spear was tossed to the side and a small dark spot appeared over his crotch.
The other guards didn’t take long to notice what was causing the earthquakes and when they did, their reaction wasn’t much different than Anden’s.
A few seconds later, Anden and the other guards were all away from the clearing and waited to see if they needed to run any further. From this location, they couldn’t see the rock, but could still feel the shaking of it.
“What the god’s name was that?” asked one of the older guards named Drew looking at Anden.
“How am I supposed to know?” replied Anden.
“Weren’t you the one standing guarding for today? You must have seen what happened.”
“I was … I was standing and then there was some shaking and… and I saw that the rock was cracking, so I ran,” replied Anden. It wasn’t that rare for people to fall asleep while standing guard, but it didn’t seem like a good time to bring that up.
Just as the guards were talking to each other, hundreds of small pebble-sized rocks were thrown into the air following a large exposition noise. All conversations were put out as the noise interrupted whatever they wanted to say.
The small pebble-sized rocks flew high into the air and, a few seconds later, began the descent down to earth.
Anden and his group were protected from the small rocks from the trees above them, but that didn’t cause their fear to go down.
“So… should we go back and check out what happened?” asked Anden as he watched a piece of rock falling right next to them.
“I think it's more important to get directly back to Ru and report it as soon as we can. Not a single second can be wasted” replied Drew. He quickly turned around and started to run. The other looked at each other for a few moments, before they started to run after Drew. None of them wanted to be left behind.
