I couldn’t move the rest of my body and my senses were still dulled. It took a few deeply uncomfortable minutes for the paralysis to finally fully fade. I groaned as I pushed myself up from the bed, it was then that the system notifications began to pour in.
*You have gained the new class Radiant Redeemer [Radiance].*
*You gain 6 class skills slots.*
*Level up. Radiant Redeemer level 1. You gain 2 Free stats, 4 Strength, 5 Agility, 4 Vitality, 4 Animus, 3 Magic, and 3 Manipulation.*
*You gain the passive main skill Radiance Affinity, level 1.*
*You gain the passive main skill Radiance Resistance, level 1.*
*You have gained access to the Sukeshi Mastery passive class skill.*
*You have gained access to the Minor Radiance Conjuration active class skill.*
*You have gained access to the Radiant Blade active class skill.*
*You have gained access to the Radiant Step active class skill.*
*Your skill Swords may advance to the Weapon Mastery passive class skill.*
*Your skill Mediation may advance to the Sukeshi Chakra active/passive class skill.*
Well that was a lot. It was interesting that this class seemed to be somewhat tailored based on what weapon I had trained with. That had been true about a lot of the warrior classes I had checked as well. I guessed some skills were tailored to each individual to some extent.
Also a skill I hadn’t even taken was able to advance to a new skill. I wondered why that was. I quickly checked the description of both skills and immediately realized why. Weapon Mastery was a more powerful form of the Swords skill, but it required you have a warrior base or advanced class. So I could take Swords on my species class or Weapon Mastery on my Radiant Redeemer class but not both.
*Weapon Mastery
Prerequisite: Warrior base or advanced class
Type: Warrior, Spellblade, Monk, Paladin, Rogue, Fighting, Weapon
Passive
Skill cost: 5 mana regen/level
You have undertaken significant training in one or more weapons, this skill will allow you to branch out and increase your ability to use other weapons when you do not have your primary weapon. Increases your proficiency with and ability to master new weapons. Proficiency increase is dependent on your mastery of the given weapon. The bonuses granted by this skill are lesser than the bonuses granted by a specific weapon mastery skill and do not combine with them.*
Five mana regeneration every level was a pretty steep cost. Although my Radiant Redeemer class gave me 44 mana regeneration every level without even considering how I assigned my free stats. Then again the ability to more quickly master nearly any weapon really was quite the beneficial skill. If I lost my Sukeshi I wasn’t going to be completely screwed.
I decided to hold off assigning any new skills until I checked the description of all my new skills. I started with the ones I had no control over, my two new main skills.
*Radiance Affinity
Prerequisite: Radiance aligned class
Type: Radiance
Passive
Skill cost: 3 mana regen/level
Affinity skills are a category of skills that all classes of the appropriate element gain. Increases the potency and reduces the cost of all skills with the Radiance element type. Note Dual and Triple elements do not affect their constituent elements.*
*Radiance Resistance
Prerequisite: Radiance aligned mage base or advanced class
Type: Radiance, Magic, Mage, Spellblade, Warlock, Archer, Sage
Passive
Skill cost: 1 mana regen/level
Resistance skills are a category of skills that all mage base or advanced classes of the appropriate element gain. Decreases the effects of the Radiance element on you and all items worn by you. The effects of Radiance resistance are much greater when you are resisting effects created by your own Radiance magic. Note Dual and Triple elements do not affect their constituent elements.*
Alright those were straightforward skills. They just helped me use my skills and not hurt myself with my own magic. Those seemed very useful and I understood why affinity was a baseline in every class. Resistance seemed to be something only mages got. That made sense since only mages could conjure significant outward manifestations of their elements.
Since I was already learning about the Radiance magic skills I decided to check on the conjuration skill.
*Minor Radiance Conjuration
Prerequisite: Radiance aligned Spellblade or Archer class
Type: Radiance, Magic, Spellblade, Archer
Active
Skill cost: Any up to your Magic
Range: 5 feet + inch per level
Grants you the ability to conjure radiance beams and orbs of radiant light. Radiance beams can be maintained by continuously conjuring them. Radiance orbs can be conjured and maintained at the cost of 1 mana every minute. Radiance orbs can not emit significant heat and cannot be made to emit more light than an average torch fire. The more mana you use while conjuring radiance the more powerful the effect will be.*
Alright so this seemed to be the less powerful version of the conjuration skills I saw on all the mage classes. Each mage class had Resistance and Conjuration of their specific element as main skills, but didn’t have the affinity skill as a main skill. However since I was a Spellblade and not a full mage I got Minor Conjuration instead of the full version mages get and as a class skill instead of a main skill. It seems that was also true about Archers since they were the combination of Mages and Rangers.
I continued along with my last two radiance skills.
*Radiant Blade
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
Prerequisite: Radiance aligned Spellblade class
Type: Radiance, Spellblade, Fighting, Weapon
Active
Skill cost: Any up to Magic plus 1/10th the initial cost every minute to maintain the ability
Coat your blade in razor sharp radiance granting a significant increase to sharpness and heat emitted. Potency of the Radiant blade with each mana spent increases each level.*
*Radiant Step
Prerequisite: Radiance aligned class
Type: Radiance
Active
Skill cost: Any up to magic each step
By applying radiant power to your steps you can significantly accelerate your speed with each step. By applying low mana with each step you can accelerate your ongoing movement speed, alternatively you can apply a large amount of mana to lunge quickly forward. Speed boost per mana spent increases with each level.*
These seemed to be the workhorse skills of a Radiant Redeemer. A movement skill would allow me to apply my magic, mana, and mana regeneration to moving faster instead of just my agility and a little from my strength. I didn’t know if this would allow me to move faster than an agility focused warrior, but I suspected it would when I fueled the skill with enough mana. Of course it would only accelerate my foot based movements, I might be able to accelerate a kick, but the skill makes it clear I can only accelerate my steps. So an Agility focused fighter will still swing their sword faster than I will.
Radiant blade on the other hand was just amazing. I immediately thought of lightsabers and may have let out an adorably girly squee of excitement. I wasn’t proud of myself for that, but I mean it’s a lightsaber. What child hasn’t made the noises while swinging around a cardboard tube.
I schooled my giddy excitement to try out the Radiant Blade skill and checked the two Sukeshi focused skills. Sukesh Mastery had two important differences from Weapon Mastery, firstly it made it explicit it was more powerful that Weapon Mastery, but it only applied to the Sukeshi. Additionally it only cost 3 mana regeneration per level instead of 5. Sukeshi Chakra on the other hand was a very different skill from Meditation.
*Sukeshi Chakra
Prerequisite: Sufficient mastery of the Sukeshi weapon, Spellblade class, and the Meditation skill at level 20 or higher.
Type: Sukeshi, Spellblade, Weapon, Magic
Active/Passive
Skill cost: none
Through a combination of magical training and familiarity with the Sukeshi you have learned to create a permanent bond with your weapon. You can perform a ritual form of meditation for one hour with a Sukeshi to link to it. You may only be linked to one Sukeshi at a time. Once linked you can always sense the direction your weapon is in and the distance you are from it.
Additionally while your linked Sukeshi is on your person you daily mana regeneration is increased by 1% for each level of this skill.
You may still meditate while you have your linked Sukeshi, restoring 1 mana per level of this skill for every 1 minute you spend meditating. Meditation without your Sukeshi produces 1/10th the mana every minute.*
Holy cow that was an incredibly powerful skill! Once I got this skill to level 100 my mana regeneration would double while I had my sword on me! Also being able to sense where my weapon was meant keeping it from me would be much more difficult. Even the meditation component was very slightly more powerful than the base Meditation skill.
The downside was that if my Sukeshi was ever destroyed I would lose all the benefits and be stuck with much worse Meditation until I could link to a new one. That was not nearly enough reason for me to not be taking this skill. Plus since it advanced my Meditation skill it would give me a new skill slot in my species to fill.
Alright. I had one more thing to check now before I could start assigning my skills. With a combat class I should now be able to take the skill that was granted by Titan’s Fall. I thought at the system to make it bring up the skill description.
*Titan Slayer
Prerequisite: A combat class and the Titan’s Fall achievement
Type: Fighting
Passive
Skill cost: 2 mana regen/level
You, with a level entirely dwarfed by someone, still stood your ground and fought. Through a miracle you even killed them. Increase the effect of the Titan’s Fall statistic bonus by 0.2% for every level in this skill. Additionally, while you are fighting a creature that is higher level than you you gain a bonus to all your stats equal to the difference between your total levels. The bonus to your stats granted from a level difference cannot exceed the level of this skill.*
Well it was official I was a monster. With this skill, my achievements, and my potent starting class I would always be punching way above my weight. It was possible I could fight someone with a lesser class quality that was double my total level.
After considering my options I quickly assigned Titan Slayer, Sukeshi Chakra, Radiant Blade, Radiant Steps, Sukeshi Mastery, and Minor Radiance Conjuration to my open Radiant Redeemer class skill slots.
I also assigned Noble, Training, and Dodging to my open Species class skill slots. The Noble skill was definitely useful, it helped me act like a noble, and gave me minor benefits to all my social, appearance, and knowledge skills. It was like having a tiny fraction of an entire Noble class. Training on the other hand was incredible, but would only be a temporary skill.
*Training
Prerequisite: Sapience; be an adolescent or adult of your species; be in active military training, have an active apprenticeship, or have gained a new class within the last 6 months.
Type: Species, Knowledge, Fighting
Passive
Skill cost: 10 mana regen/level
You earn 1% additional experience at all times. Unlike most skills when this skill is replaced or removed it retains its level when it is regained later additionally a skill replaced with Training will retain its level only if that same skill replaces Training later. Training only affects experience for classes that have recently been gained or are actively being trained.*
This was a crazy powerful skill that would eventually massively increase the amount of experience any gains while they are being trained in a new class. Its ability to retain skill levels when it is replaced was absolutely awesome. I needed to get this skill as high level as possible in the next several months. Which meant I was going to be busy.
*Dodging
Prerequisite: Intentionally dodge several oncoming attacks.
Type: Species, Fighting
Passive
Skill cost: 2 mana regen/level
Range: 5 feet + inch per level
Helps you dodge incoming attacks by warning you. You will get a feeling an attack is coming toward you before it actually hits you if that attack originated from within the range of this skill. Attacks moving too quickly or that are obfuscated by a high enough level skill will not cause Dodging to warn you of an oncoming attack. Maximum speed of attack that you will be warned of increases with level. Level of obfuscating skill required to suppress Dodging warning will increase with level.*
Finally there was Dodging, an extremely useful skill for the purposes of survival. It wouldn’t be too useful if I got in way over my head, but warning of an incoming attack even when I’m not aware of the attacker is pretty awesome.
With everything settled I quickly checked my stats before heading back into the entertaining room.
