Prologue

My only memories after I arrived were fuzzy and scarce like an old sinister film, and that only made worse the way I was feeling, lonely, broken, with nowhere to go, lost within myself, driven by my will, and the hope that this bloody storm runs outta rain…

“Never again…”

That was my only thought, the only idea strong enough to get through my foggy mind, one step at the time, I didn't know where I was, but I was searching for something, I just didn't know what it was, I just had to keep going…

A flash of light on the night and then… darkness, that was all I could see, my legs refused to keep going, my lungs burned with the desire to scream out my wart, but was too late, what was left from my consciousness was fading away, all I could do was to fall…

"So… this is it?... right?"

A bitter smile crossed my face as I finally faded….

"Pitiful…"

"…"

"…"

"…"

Pain…

I can feel pain…

the words of my friend appeared on my mind:

—Pain is your friend; you know why?

"…"

—Because, even if it hurts like hell, if it makes you feel like you can't keep going, the great thing 'bout pain, is that it tells you that you're not dead yet, so if you have the strength to lay down there like a moron, you have the strength to try to stand up one more time and keep going…

Stolen novel; please report.

"What an idiot…"

...

...

"Ok, let's try it…"

I slowly opened my eyes; the world was a burr.

I would have thrown up if I had anything on my stomach to throw up, but it felt great, I was alive…

“But how?... I should have died, I…”

—Good morning, so you're finally awake, I thought you'll give up on me, you were out for a couple of days.

She smiled at me, but her eyes had a shadow of a doubt, I could feel killing intent from her.

“What kind of sick joke is this... “

—I thought… I give up on myself… to tell the truth. Were… am I?... Who are… you?... How did I…?

She cut me off with a grin.

—You have way too many questions for a man that looks like a mummy due to all the bandages that you have on, you know? Let me put it this way, I might answer your questions after you answer mine, but I won't interrogate someone that's wounded, so for now, rest and recover, we'll have time to talk later.

“I don't like the sound of that might. But anyway, she saved me, I can forgive her this much… damn, I need to get back on my feet ASAP”

I tried to sit on the bed but I couldn't make it no matter how much I tried, my body was still numb, but the feeling was unnatural like if…

—Don't bother trying to stand up, we've tied you down.

—You tie down a wounded man?

—Well, you see, you came out of nowhere, armed, and injured, you don't look like the usual kind of fella that can be found around, so, for now, I think that tie you down is a good idea if you behave we'll let you move a little more, no hard feelings, but we have to be careful, for what we know you may be a wanted criminal.

“She has a point there... dammit”.

—Well then, I suppose you're not letting me go if I assure you that I'm not a criminal?

—You suppose right.

—Guess I'll be staying here for a while at least, then how I should call you, nurse?

—You do know that you’re tie-down and I could simply beat the crap out of you right now and no one will ever know?

—O, come on, you don’t seem that kind of person…—“I hope.”

She looked at me like if I was a bug on a spider web and slowly a dry and cold smile appeared on her face, I don't think I was ever being scared of a smiling woman…

—You’re sure about that?

—Of course, there’s no point in saving my life just to beat me down to the brink of death… again…

I might not have sounded so convincing since that glacial smile of her turned into a mocking one.

"I need to improve my poker face…"

I thought I just hear a laugh on the other side of the door, probably the guards, and for the way they’re trying to hold it I guess I shouldn't fool around with this one, but I'm starting to get bored…

—Hey nurse, I need to go to the bathroom…

—I don’t care, and don’t you ever call me that way… Jerk.
