Chapter 005: Bystander

“So any idea on how to stop these 4? Or do we just watch like the rest of the examinees,” Welf said as he crouched down while watching the aforementioned trainees.

“It would be easy but I don’t see the Instructors doing anything about it. I mean, they are fighting in front of a booth! The Instructor there is just sitting there, while they attempt to fight in front of him.”

“You seem pretty angry Jen,” Welf whistled at her. “If you ask nicely I could put a stop to it you know.”

“The number of Placement Test Examinees doesn’t even exceed 5% when compared to those for the Entrance Exam,” Jen snarled as she looked a Welf. “And you wonder why I worry! Stop messing around Welf, if even one of these guys gets hurt, Zoran will suffer a huge loss!”

“Look at you, already acting your part for society. How admirable, as expected of our noble princess,” Welf laughed as he dodged a polearm aimed at his head.

“You never really could hit me. Tsk, even so. Even a person like you should be enough to handle a couple of Rank 1 Trainees. They have potential sure but as of now? Their just rank and file, fodder.”

“They’re Aberrant Holders Welf,” Jen stated as she pulled out a pair of glasses, her already piercing eyes glowed like a feline in the darkness, the drawing battle reflecting in the blue-tinted lenses of her eyewear. “Genuine monsters that can push above their current strength effortlessly.”

Welf’s smile froze. He always had faith in Jen’s eyesight and intuition. For one, she was a woman and he always believed the rumors that a woman’s intuition must inspire fear and praise. Second, though he might not show it, he already knew what she was capable of.

They did spend 3 years in The House of Learning together after all, the stars on their academy scarf proved that.

He smiled, "So you really do need my help huh?" He teased.

"Tsk," She turned away, "In our batch, you're the only one who can deal with those unpredictable kids."

He hummed, and silence temporarily returned. Then went on to ask a crucial question.

Welf licked his lips, “How many?”

“What?”

“How many are there? Among the Placement and Entrance Exam participants, how many Aberrant are there.”

“A few dozen if I were to have a rough estimate.”

Boom!

Jen and Welf looked at each other for a brief moment. A second later a malevolent pressure surfaced out of the point of conflict. Along with it came a series of shouts, curses, and sounds of battle which clashing violently with their conflicted thoughts.

“I’ll do it if you go out on a date with me this Friday at the Eden’s Den,” Welf said extremely quickly before he got up.

“You! What are you doing? Wait!”

“Bye, see you this Friday!”

After saying his piece he sprinted away with the sound and power equivalent to an explosive, leaving the ground ruptured in his wake as he turned into a blur of movement. Like a sword of pure force, he easily cut through the spaces between the students watching the battle.

Jen clicked her tongue.

Nataly let her Karmic Aura wash over, like an unavoidable wave their auras collided and clashed yet rejected each other all the same.

Nayu and Nana’s auras were weaker than usual due to the Cursed Karma Talisman that she ripped out, not to mention the method she used to ruthlessly but cleanly sever the Talisman Array from their person was particularly draining.

Both for her and them.

‘Regardless, for my sisters, I’ll happily fight a hundred of you bastards,’ Nataly clasped her hands together as her mind lit up like a castle with thousands of high-temperature candles.

She gripped the bracelet on her wrist and twisted it as she aimed her arm at the bastard's neck.

She brought her closed fist to her lips and blew through them, the thousand high-temperature candles exploded out as her thoughts came to an abrupt halt and her mind blanked. Her eyes emptied.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

She appeared to be interrupted as the guy lowered his hand.

“Dumbass. Now for the other two,” The tall guy said with mockery, “Welcome ladies, the next Dwarven Throne in your service, Ken Marvis.”

“Nataly!” Nayu screamed before she drew a line in the air. “Split in half!”

“Rebound.”

Blood flew through the air as a line went from Nayu’s left neck down to the right of her waist. She fell to the ground in shock as she held her neck as she watched Ken go to attack Nana.

With a bit of grit and luck, she managed not to completely collapse on the ground and held her footing enough to kneel on one knee.

“Nana!”

Suddenly, a penetrating cold eluded the senses of everyone in the area as Nana’s eyes glowed. Her aura spread out recklessly to defend herself. It held for a moment before collapsing but it was enough.

Nataly had awakened!

“Be humble!” Nataly who had spaced out for a moment due to Ken’s interruption, coldly stated.

A circle that swirled with extremely cold Qi and yet held the power of a thousand candles appeared above his head. On the giant complex rotating circle was a castle made of molten ice that flowed down on his head and yet did not touch him like a physical object.

An immense pressure surfaced from the castle and the molten ice, pressing down on Ken.

Ken had his knees shake uncontrollably for several moments before they both cracked and then he crumbled to the ground like a sock puppet. His eyes widened but Nataly wasn’t done, far from it as she thrusted her hand out as her bracelet glowed along with the ones on her siblings.

In the distance, the neck brace on the girl near Belle glowed with the leg brace of Nana and the thigh brace of Nayu. Together a line drew itself to surround the reckless Ken who gripped his wrist tightly as his Karmic Aura exploded violently as cracks formed in the air around him.

Like the glass of an imaginary window, they fell onto his person and he got larger and his aura thicker, stronger, and more chaotic. The glass was clear on one side and yet extremely dark on the other.

If one tried to look through the clear side they would clearly be able to see through it and yet if they tried the opposite, to see through the endless darkness there would be nothing to be found there.

A clear contradiction of reality! A single object yet two sides that defied reality!

This was Aberism!

His already red eyes turned bloody and were nearly bursting out when the fifth shard came to rest upon his head like a dual-colored crown.

He grinned at the cold smile Nataly had on her face as the lines that connected all four of them began to converge and rotate around him as the air twisted like it was being bent.

“I’m going to win,” Ken roared as he swiped his hand forward as massive shards of glass were hurled at Nataly. “Bitch, endure it if you can!”

“You’re just a small fry. That twink from earlier was far better than you, even though he wasn’t as muscular,” Nayu yelled out angrily.

‘What the fuck. When did I get into this? Why am I catching strays?’ Belle was watching the fight like many others cursed when he somehow entered the conversation of the battling maniacs. He didn't intend to get involved and was simply enjoying a show.

Of course, he wouldn't allow anyone to die here but at the same time, he didn't think he would be needed for such a duty. The instructors were still there and they protected those watching. Confused, Belle stayed put and had his trust thoroughly put in the Instructors of The House of Learning.

“Illeya! Get ready, we're ending this fodder!”

‘So her name was Illeya. Come to think of it,’ Belle then noticed a pin on the girl that said something along the lines of [Hi! Illeya Here :)!]. ‘How did I not notice that detail?’

Illeya nodded her head her tail wagged eagerly as she grinned crazily. She pulled a bunch of candies from her pockets and stuffed them into her mouth. Like a true squirrel, her cheeks bulged.

They were not regular candies, as they looked like miniature candles. And the smell of sugar was overpowering.

The quadrilateral formed from the cooperation of the four girls successfully encircled the enraged Ken who by this point looked more like the enemy of Zoran, a Ghoul, than a warrior of the Dwarven race.

His posture tightened up as a black aura surrounded him. The crown on his head flipped and now instead of the clear glass, the dark abyss took the stage to be shown.

The lines of the four were weakened as Illeya’s was broken off from the rest but it didn’t matter as the remaining three quickly got together to form a triangle that applied even more pressure on Ken. Meanwhile, the line that broke from the rest came to join with Ken and formed a singular circle at his feat.

A gleam of excitement flashed in Illeya’s eyes.

Nataly remained focused along with the others. Slowly she opened her arms along with her sisters and shouted out in fury.

“Entomb!” Nataly, Nayu, and Nana spoke with the voice of someone uttering a death sentence.

Illeya’s shout however was particularly silent. She was mute of course.

Ken roared as a flurry of black “stars” appeared around him and disappeared in that same instant. They appeared in the direction of the three identical triplets and numerous holes appeared on their bodies but they held strong. Then they started laughing.

“Die!” A second round of the attack followed but his eyes contracted when he suddenly felt a very threatening aura behind him.

Illeya smiled as she widened her arms even more as the Karmic Aura suddenly took over the entire area, it spread until it engulfed her sisters and then retracted back into herself. By that time a spectacular change occurred in the battle.

Nataly, Nana, and Nayu were no longer injured, their injuries instead appeared on the girl. She smiled, as blood leaked from her mouth, eyes and ears.

Her eyes were bright and a giggle sounded from her mute threat that sounded more like the babble of a demon or the gurgling of a severe amount of blood.

She then clapped her hands in Ken’s direction, the injuries on her disappeared as the circle at Ken’s feet glowed and the circle then formed a mouth with lethal teeth, lined up heavenly across the gaping, salivating maw.

The mouth opened and then roared domineeringly as all the injuries that were previously on the girl were then returned to Ken!

“What!” Ken coughed blood as he hurriedly covered his mouth. He lifted his eyes to see Nataly in the pose she was in before he interrupted her.

His eyes widened.

“Faded Light!” She twisted her hand as the light disappeared from his eyes and his legs buckled.
