PROLOGUE - Life and Death

"Today was a tiring day," he said out loud, as he bought a coffee from a vending machine, "I made so many dumb mistakes that it's not even funny. Gotta step up and work harder I guess..." he added, letting an audible sigh.

The man, a salaryman in his late twenties, crouched to pick his coffee and collect his change.

While quickly drinking the hot coffee, he left the building, walking slightly faster than usual to avoid the cold.

On his way home, he decided to pass by a convenience store to buy dinner.

“Let's see... Tonkatsu bento with a 50% discount? Bingo!” he said, as he grabbed his dinner and put into his basket.

After exploring the store for some more time, the man stumbled upon a certain fancy dog treat.

“He loved this beef jerky,” he thought, remembering of his deceased dog. “A full year is a long time, but I still miss him…”

After selecting other items, he handed the products to the cashier.

"That will be ¥4219!" the store clerk said.

The man approached his phone into the credit card machine, paying the bill.

"Thank you for your patronage!" the cashier said, as the man left the store.

After walking down the street for a brief minute, he stopped at an unusually quiet crosswalk.

"Huh, this road usually is full of cars at this time," the man thought.

Even with no cars in the way, the man patiently waited for his time to cross.

As the pedestrian traffic lights turned green, the man started to walk, steadily progressing across the road. Surely nothing could go wrong – no cars in sight, the lights were green, and he was crossing in the right place. This was a recipe for a normal, pleasant crosswalk crossing experience.

However, as it happens with many things in life, things did, in reality, go wrong. The man was not safe at all – a green light was nothing to the red car, who appeared out of nowhere, running at deadly speeds. A loud crashing noise spread across the empty road, as he flew across the street, already unconscious because of the violent impact.

With all of that, it was the abrupt end of the man's story - was born and raised in Japan, studied at average schools and universities, adopted a lovely dog, worked as a salaryman in a normal job, received a somewhat livable salary, worked hard and was tired most of the time, until one day a speeding car hit the man and killed him unfairly. The end.

However, the end didn't come, as an unfamiliar voice echoed in his head.

"Oh! He's already here!”
