Hesper

The dawn wind blew softly, as it spread its cool breeze across the Blake Dukedom. The duchy was situated on the middle east side of the Sfragída continent, and the top powerhouses of Sfragída were the vampires and the demons. The Blake duchy had a vast territory in the north-east that was used to entertain guests. In that land, there sat four comely dome-fashioned tea houses in a cardinal style, and a fountain was built in the center. The tea houses had varieties of fauna, and each of them glittered under the morning sun's rays as the dews on their edges fell to the moist soil beneath them.

In one of the tea houses, two adult women and two children, a boy and a girl, were having some leisure time. One of the women, Melaina, had a falling leaf necklace and wore a loose red dress. Her long raven hair rested on one side of her shoulder. The other woman had wavy, high low-lobed blonde hair. Her face adorned a pair of green eyes and long eyebrows, a long nose, and lush, heart-shaped lips. She had on silver earrings and a festoon necklace, and she wore a blue dress.

The boy sat with the lady in the blue dress, and the girl—with Melaina.

The lady with the blue dress lowered down the glass of wine she had on the white, round, see-through table in front of her and said, "To think that you are already pregnant with another child, Melaina, you are working hard behind the curtains, aren't you?"

Melaina's eyebrow twitched when she heard that. She agreed while slightly raising her brows. "Yea, yea. I have been working hard." She then patted the little girl's head that sat beside her. "But what about my Lily, Tanisha? If you don't give her a baby sister or brother, she will be alone in that big house and won't have anyone to play with."

"Auntie!" Lily shouted in embarrassment. "I don't need a sibling or something like that… I already have Coy." She mumbled her last words like a mosquito.

Lily was a young girl who had a small forehead, long rich blonde hair, slightly arched eyebrows, wide greenish gold eyes that resembled the forest, a button nose, and thin lips. She wore a cute light blue short summer dress with ruffles and white strappy sandals that were wrapped around her feet up to the ankles like vines going up a tree. The sandals had butterflies decorated on the upper textiles.

"Hmm? What did you say just now, Lily?" Melaina asked.

"N-nothing!" stuttered Lily as she looked away from them and admired the fauna.

"You know how stubborn Luke can be. He said that he doesn't want another child before Lily's coming-of-age ceremony is held. Speaking about the coming-of-age ceremony, I believe Coy will be having his after tomorrow, right? since tomorrow night will be his birthday party." Tanisha addressed while looking at Coy sitting next to her.

"Yeah, he will be having his ceremony tomorrow. The king will also be sending his blessings personally tomorrow night at the party—if it could be called a party, that is, hahaha." Melania laughed while drinking wine.

"Mhm, mother is right. I heard from father that many noble vampires, humans, and other species will be coming too. It's almost like a ball party rather than a birthday party, since renowned musicians will be playing there." Coy chimed in.

"Is that so? Are you nervous, Coy? The king is said to be a strict person," asked Tanisha worryingly.

"Haha… Just a little, I think. Besides that, can I take Lily with me to the city?"

When both mothers heard that, they glanced at each other and winked. Lily looked at Coy with a tilted head, puzzled.

"Of course! Nothing is keeping you from going to the city; do you want to take the family's carriage or--"

"We will walk around the city, we'll be careful, I promise!" Coy interrupted Melania while looking at her with certitude.

'Well, I believe no one will cause trouble for them since they are both wearing their blood crest rings,' Melania internalised.

"What do you say, Tanisha?"

"It's okay as long as Thomas follows them in the dark, you guys are okay with that, right?" Tanisha replied to Melania's question while asking both of the kids.

Coy peeked at Lily, and she just looked at him, confused. As long as she could remember, they didn't plan this, so she didn't even know where they would be going or whatever surprises Coy had for her. Surprises!

"Yes!" Lily exclaimed while thinking about the surprises that were waiting for her. She knew Coy wouldn't just ask her to go to the city for no reason, so she trusted her gut, and her guts rarely proved her wrong.

"Then you guys can go and have fun; be back by midnight though; you younglings still have to sleep to develop your body and soul; otherwise, your coming-of-age ceremony will not go that well. Especially for you, Lily. Coy is about to become 7 years old tomorrow, but you just turned 6 years old."

"Alright…mother." sulked Lily.

Coy and Lily went to the duchy's city, Lazaria. They roamed around the bustling streets, going from place to place. Thomas was secretly following behind them in the shadows, watching out for any potential enemies that might strike his young master and his friend.

Coy took Lily to many places in the city since he was a regular visitor. The citizens personally knew their lord's son, and they all greeted him whenever he passed by them. Some of them even made jokes, saying, "Young master, is that your fiancé?"

"Young master, are you about to get married already?"

"50% discount on fried chicken for the young master and his fiancé!"

Lily only looked at them with a tilted head, but Coy was just smiling awkwardly while waving his hand. They could joke like this because of their close relationship with their Lord and his family.

Coy and Lily's first destination was a famous restaurant that served exquisite cuisine from overseas countries. After they had a sumptuous mermaid soup and delicious blood that had been 'donated' by an able-bodied young lady for breakfast, they went to the city's entertainment district to play sport games together.

Both of them just went rowdy and had a dynamite day! When it was around the time of the crepuscular, Coy took Lily to a vast field outside the city.

Thomas was hiding behind a tree in the back like a snake.

"Coy, isn't it about time you tell me what you are hiding from me?" Lily anticipatingly asked.

Coy didn't look at her as he was facing the bright reddish sunset. Today it seemed to have a different kind of glow, but it might all be in Coy's head.

"Just as we have practiced, Hesper," whispered Coy.

He raised his right hand, the palm facing the sky. Promptly, a small, bright yellow speck flew out of the palm like a drop of water leaping out of a pound or a lake, rebelling against gravity itself.

Lily looked at the yellow thing with widened eyes, and she almost screamed when it flew towards her. But the yellow speck just haloed around her head and then accelerated to the sky, 2 meters above the children's heads.

When Coy saw that, he snapped his thumb and middle finger, and the yellow speck plummeted to the ground. The result was a swarm of fireflies that bestrew around Coy and Lily.

Stunned, Lily could only look at Coy for answers, and the boy had a cheeky grin on his face. He reached out his hand to one of the fireflies and popped it, making it disperse and fall like yellow sand that glittered underneath the reflection of the setting sun.

He looked at her and beckoned for her to do the same. Lily fearfully touched one of them and the same result happened! She was truly exhilarated by this.

She then started to pop every one of them with Coy, as if they were in a competition.

When almost half of them were left, Coy stopped her and clapped his hands, and all the remaining ones simultaneously popped. The surrounding area around them had this mystical look that could enchant even a person with a stone heart.

Thomas had a proud smile on his face as he looked at Coy. He thought with pride, 'The young masters have made a contract with an amusing fire spirit.'

Lily asked Coy, as she had a curious look on her face. "That was astonishing! How did you do it?"

"Shhh, it's a secret." Father said that I can't tell anyone about it yet, but he gave me permission to show it to you, mom, and Luna."

'However, both of my family already know about the elemental spirits, so it's just you in the dark. I will definitely make it up to you in the future,' Coy thought bitterly.

"Aww, that's awful. When will you tell me then?"

Coy said with a mysterious smile, "Maybe when I do my coming-of-age ceremony."

"What if you die while doing that? Who's going to tell me then?" Lily asked with an unfazed face.

Seeing Coy's baffled face, Lily snickered.
