Chapter 15 - 22313 (1)

The mood was instantly dampened by the name.

Sarah, stuttering, asked, "Y-you can't be that August, right?"

"If I am?" Danny asked. Sarah didn't respond. "To me, it looks like I'm your only chance to keep the club alive. After all, that's the only way you could be out here, on elective hours."

"He's right, but..." Danny looked at the man who said it. He seemed to be the oldest in the club, as he already had a full beard. 'He must be a 4th year,' Danny thought to himself. The Academy only went up to 4th years, although they had to do considerably more than 1st years.

Sarah looked at the man with a pleading expression. "Percy, we need this," she said. "If we get shut down, our room's going to the Exploration Club."

"What!?" the man named Percy yelled, shock clear on his face.

Danny knew about the Exploration Club. It was what he thought of as the most popular Club. It was filled with many powerful figures, along with their lackey's. The club, itself, barely had any activities. In truth, it was only a club in name. Those in it only used the allotted time to lounge around, smoking, sleeping, and other things.

"What do they need another room for!? For their 'maps' that they don't even have? Huh!?" Percy was getting even angrier, until a member pinched his arm. He glared at the man, who seemed like a baby in comparison. The man pointed at Danny. "Right," he said, materialising in front of Danny. "You have to join us! We have to stick it to those pretentious-!"

Sarah covered his mouth, dragging him away in a headlock. "I'm sorry," she apologised. "He's our President, and he gets very riled up sometimes."

"No need to apologise," Danny replied. "In truth, I knew someone like that, a long time ago. Anyway, I'm be happy to be of use. So, where is our room?"

"Ah, about that," Percy said, already calmed down. "Follow us."

Danny stood in shock of the building, if one could even call it that. It was more of a rundown shack, made with wooden planks. The entire structure looked like it could be toppled with just a single push.

"We are glad that you decided to join us," Sarah suddenly said, breaking his thoughts. "But, you do need to fill out the paperwork required. Which someone, will bring." Percy, who had been standing absentmindedly, suddenly sprang into a sprint.

If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement.

He ran into the building and soon came out, holding a piece of paper. "Hand this to our Club's Adviser, Hector Greal, in the Faculty Office. But not before completing the paperwork, of course," he said, adding that last bit as an afterthought.

"This is great," Sarah cried, rubbing her eyes. "We can almost get funds. Then, we can get a proper kitchen, then a proper building, then a..." She continued on like that for several minutes, each word scaling in importance.

"Sarah, classes are beginning." Percy took Sarah into his arms, as he walked away. A few other students, who were looking into the sky, suddenly sprang forth, running towards the building. Some were even throwing each other into the ground, in order to be faster, while others were already so far ahead that there was no catching up to them.

And, with the sound of a tolling bell, Danny raced after them. Being late was not a good thing, even if it was basically free time for him.

It took him until he reached the Main building that he realised classes were over. "Huh," was all he could say, as his legs buckled from tiredness.

"I thought this would happen," Danny heard a voice sigh. He turned his head, seeing Leo, who held his head in his hand. "Those Upperclassmen, always pulling pranks. Like saying you have more classes than what you actually have, acting that way."

"What?" Danny asked, speechless. What he just said was nonsense, wasn't it?

Leo coughed, opening and closing his mouth a couple times, before finally speaking. "It's become something that happens to all 1st years, where they get tricked into thinking there are other classes. There aren't, of course. Except for the exceptional students." Leo frowned, though there was interest in his eyes. "Come with me," he requested, holding out his hand.

Grateful, Danny took it, as Leo lifted him up. "Where are we going?" he asked, though Leo did not answer him.

"Damn that Sun, damaging sensitive equipment," Leo muttered, which gave Danny chills. "If it wasn't for the fact that I couldn't fight him, then..." Leo turned around, as if startled by Danny's existence, and gave a shushing motion.

Danny followed him to the Research Facility, a strangely horrifying place. Well, not strangely, since he knew the kind of stuff that happened here. "Hello, Sir Leo," the receptionist greeted.

"Object No. 22313, please," he replied, already holding out his hand.

"One second." The receptionist searched through the drawer beneath the desk, likely searching for a key that fit the number. The receptionist came back into view, handing a key over. "Here it is. May I ask who he is?"

Leo glared, making the man shrink in their chair. "No, you may not," he answered, walking deeper into the building. Danny, without any real option, followed him.

He was led to a door, with one hole to look into. Leo knocked on the door, making a specific rhythm.

The door was opened by a man, wearing a white lab coat with a big smile. His unkempt brown hair was a sign of how tired he was, along with the bags under his eyes.

The man froze when he saw Danny, but his smile stayed. "Ah, speak of the Devil," he said, grabbing Danny's hand without waiting. "I'm Dr. Cretin, very nice to meet you, August. Leo, come in, come in." Dr. Cretin was quick to welcome them in, including bringing chairs.

"He seemed to be weak," Leo greeted, shaking hands before taking a seat.

But Danny's attention was taken by something else.
