Prologue

The tips of my fingers were cold as ice. It must have been winter. My mind was clouded,  I couldn't quite think straight. It was an odd feeling as if the worldly presence around me was slowly seeping through my fingertips. I saw a clock that slowly began to tick down from twelve moving counterclockwise. Around me the scenery started to change, I stared out a bus window at a school that I did not recognize. Slowly the school melted and then formed a new school that was familiar to me. The ground split and cracked beneath me and I fell through as the cracks opened wide and swallowed me up. I plunged through the darkness until I came to a stop. I stood in front of a mirror and purple vibrant eyes stared back, I stumbled backward and again fell through the floor. I landed with a hard thud and my face stung as if someone had slapped me. Dazed I got to my feet but the person in front of me was merely a shadow that sunk into the floor and disappeared. Around me trees sprung up from the ground until they surrounded me in a tight circle. I felt my limbs go numb as I fell to the ground, but never hit it, hearing someone yelling as I continued plummeting through the darkness. I heard a lullaby sweetly soft, playing around me until it became deafeningly loud and I pressed my hands against my ears to block out the noise but it only got louder and louder until the room lit up with brilliant white light and two shadowy figures stood in front of me. One held a staff and slowly began to raise it. I felt a sharp pain in my neck and everything faded to black again. Millions of purple and red eyes started lighting up in the dark, each staring directly at me. I heard a voice loud and clear,
