Chapter 22

I leaned over and grabbed the note, shaking off the dust and mold patches. Several letters were visible, but none of which matched of the language I spoke, except for two near the bottom. Appearing to be initials of some kind, they listed as B.G.

"That's odd... I can't seem to understand any of it," Pointed out Hannah, a look of confusion over her face.

"Neither can I," I replied, nodding with interest. Then it hit me! I know someone who could most likely decider it...

----------------------------------------

"Hey Jack, I need a favor from you." I handed him the note, his mind working on it almost instantly. Walking over to a table, full of books and machines, who's creations are unknown. He set down the note and disappeared into a back room, clanking and crunching sounds were audible.

"Got it!" He yelled, running back out and almost tripping along the way. In his hands were a large, dusty book. Slamming the heavyweight down onto the table he exclaimed exhausted, "Here we go- An encyclopedia of letter interpretation. Hopefully this is only coded English." He flipped through the book, page after page after page of meaningless words. Eventually he stopped, near the end of the book, and squinted his eyes. Taking glances back and forth between the note and the book he grinned. "I believe I've got the translation right here."

Leaning over to take a look, I saw that the letters matched up with each other, different letters indifferent locations nonetheless, but still the same writing style. Jack began to write down letter after letter on a piece of scrap paper, eventually done with the translation and handed it to me.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

"I read it already, it seems to be an invitation to a meeting between the author and whoever wrote this note." Said Jack, smiling at his knowledge. I nodded and glanced at him, I almost forgot that he was a kitsune now. His ears shined a black color, same with his tail. Even his hair had slightly changed color from its usual brown to a darker color. I got to say, black does look a bit better on him. Pointing my attention back down to the note I read it out loud.

"Ahem... Dear Henry, I wish I could see you now rather than later. My situation is dire, and I require your assistance. During the last few months, I have traveled nonstop, under fire from enemy forces. Although I do not know these men and women, they know me. Just recently, two days ago, I heard some of the people talking to each other, discussing something about finding the key of Varian, and unlocking its treasure or something like that. Please meet me where we annually meet tomorrow. I will be there at 4 o'clock sharp, and hope you read this. Sending my sincerest apologies, B.G."

I look up at faces staring at me, surprise on their faces. "Someone, whoever this B.G. fellow is, he was in trouble, from some organization hunting him down. And for the reason of finding a key." Hannah looked at Jack. "Do you think you could find any information about this? I would relieve some stress."

Jack nodded his head in agreement, weaving back through the mess of his house. I took one last glance at the note, taking it in. We had found a distress call, someone that was in dire need of the author. But then, out in the corner of the note, lied several words. Setting the note back down I wrote them. In the end they spelled 'April 26, 1991'.

Then I realized something, "Hannah, this was written 27 years ago... We can't do anything, it's much too late."
