Chapter 62: A Master's True Power

Isaac waited with his head resting on one of his hands. The cultivator's legs danced in the wind, impatient.

The landscape, once composed of green and brown, was now gray.

"Just a few more Class Bs and it's over," he said to the air.

Until now, he had defended his front alone. Class B monsters were far from weak, but they weren't a problem for cultivators like him. The other Slayers shouldn't have that much trouble either.

Isaac's communicator heated. He quickly reached into his pocket, distressed. When he saw that the active communicator was the Slayers' one, and not his disciples, he calmed down.

"Requesting help at the north gate! At least one Class A detected. Top priority. Cultivators reported near the monsters."

Isaac wasted no time. He flew over the landscape, ready to act.

On the way, he couldn't help but wonder how his pupils were doing. Hector and Rim had a tough battle ahead of them. Nevertheless, his biggest concern was Dante and Sabrina, for the two still had no experience fighting side by side.

Still, he had faith in his disciples. Dante would have absorbed Wolf Fang by now. Although the young cultivator certainly didn't understand what that meant, the change in his Qi would still be there.

When he arrived at the battle site, he faced an unfavorable scenario. The barrier had small cracks, unable to completely contain the monsters.

The defensive structure of the school was formed by two barriers. The one with the largest area, external, defended the boundaries of the sect. The inner one, more resistant, protected only the castle area.

Thus, in case something got out of control, the orientation was to take all disciples to the castle. The problem was that when the attack started, the disciples were scattered underground.

In any case, exceptional measures would not be necessary in the presence of absolute power.

"Looks like we have a problem here," Isaac said as he approached another Slayer.

"Those cowards are hiding behind the monster. It seems that some clans from this continent have decided to try to invade our sect. Who knows why," said the Slayer.

Although he wouldn't admit it, Isaac had a good idea why. Amelia and Marco had not been sent to this school for nothing. They were there before Isaac to protect what sleeps beneath the ground.

The Draco, with an eye on the prize, were sparing no effort. Class A monsters were a rarity in most worlds. Control over one would put the cultivator close to ascension, easily.

Staring at the hideous basilisk that bit the barrier, Isaac could not pinpoint the creature's power. Class A monsters could be strong enough to end a world, or close to those of Class B. The higher the Class of the monster, the greater the gulf of power between creatures of the same stage.

Regardless, one of those monsters would give a normal Slayer group a hard time.

Fortunately, Isaac was not a normal Slayer.

"Inform the others to stay away from the basilisk. Focus on protecting the barrier," Isaac said, in a tone that dispensed with any objections.

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

Isaac picked up momentum in the air, and leaped toward the gate. The Slayers could pass freely through the barrier, so Isaac's flight was not interrupted.

As soon as he pierced the partition between sect and the outer world, the difference was immediate. Hundreds of Qi aura made the air pressure chaotic, as if the energies were competing to see which monster was the strongest.

There was also another problem. Closer to the monsters, Isaac sensed another Class A creature, as well as hundreds of Class B. The situation was much worse than he had imagined.

With a command, Isaac's aura exploded. Boiling Qi threw the monsters in an arc, with Isaac as the center point.

This time, he spared no energy. That would be enough to clear the way.

With long leaps, he approached the first really dangerous enemy. The Basilisk was a gigantic serpent, with teeth spewing venom all along its body.

The guttural creature roared, challenging the cultivator who had just arrived.

"So you're the main course on the menu for the day," Isaac said. "Too bad. I've never really liked snake meat."

"Don't worry, human. Your meat will feed my children," said the monster, with a voice capable of making rocks crack.

Isaac's eyes widened in surprise. "Looks like I hit the jackpot. It's been a long time since I've seen a monster be able to speak."

When it came to monsters, intelligence became more common as the class increased. For that monster to plan a coherent line of thought, it was certainly in class A. Class A monsters, like the snake there, could even command monster armies. Class B monsters could often talk, although they weren't very intelligent.

Qi flooded Isaac's channels. His body boiled the air, as his core combusted.

The monster sensed that something was wrong. The creature launched a spray of poison at Isaac, trying to take him by surprise.

Before he was hit, Isaac jumped in the attack's direction. He stretched out his hand in front of him and condensed Qi on his fingertips. Cutting off the monster's attack, he proceeded like a fish swimming against the current.

When Isaac emerged from the attack, he focused his Qi into his other fist. With all the strength he could muster, he delivered a blow to the monster's jaw.

The reptile flew backwards, causing an earthquake as its colossal body fell to the ground. Isaac looked back, worried.

Even though he had tried to stop the attack, only traces of the monster's Qi were enough to speed up the decomposition of the Slayers' barrier. He would have to be quick.

Isaac gritted his teeth, enraged. He couldn't unleash much more power, or risk hurting his companions. Whoever had planned the attack knew that for sure.

He jumped toward the monster that had begun to recover. Isaac grabbed the basilisk's tail with both hands. As he took the monster on his hands, he felt several shots of Qi coming toward him.

"Looks like the worms have finally come out of their hole," Isaac shouted to the cultivators who had appeared.

Roaring, Isaac lifted the monster and spun the colossal creature across the ground, opening a new layer of the ground in the shape of a fan.

When he had accumulated enough kinetic energy, he released the monster, which flew through the air.

After that, only the cultivators remained a problem.

Isaac didn't even bother to dodge the attacks. Extending his aura, he blocked the shots before his skin was hit. He jumped towards the nearest cultivator, and pierced his torso with one punch.

"I shouldn't be merciful. Lucky for you, my heart has softned recently," Isaac told the cultivator.

With that, a wave of Qi was enough to disintegrate the dead body.

Isaac took a deep breath, letting his shoulders slump. Finally, he could loosen up a bit. Fighting over cultivation had not satisfied the master in a long time.

Fighting to protect those he loved, however, was another story.

"Who are you, demon?" shouted a cultivator close to Isaac.

From the pompous uniform, the new enemy possessed a position of prominence in the clan.

"Once, I was devastation. For as long as I can remember, I have been a Slayer. During recent times, a teacher. And now," Isaac said, as he approached the cultivator, "I am the end."

With one blow, the cultivator's head disentangled itself from his body.

That was no time for mercy. The more absolute the victory, the sooner the other cultivators would surrender.

Isaac knew that in a war, many innocents end up dying. He never liked big battles very much, for this very reason.

A breath in the air caused Isaac to look up at the heavens. Like a meteor, the basilisk was heading toward Isaac. Qi of poison formed a ball on the monster's head, which looked completely enraged at Isaac.

The cultivator looked up into the skies. When he heard a laugh coming from his core, he brought his hands up.

It was time to show his enemies what a real monster was capable of.
