Chapter 2 - Friends & Enemies

...they aren't a match for Haux if he gets serious. So they reluctantly ignores us instead.

Raising my hand I pet Haux's feathery head. Feeling him calming down I head into Aspel while feeling the fist in my throat slowly fading.

Aspel, my home town is on its usual merry mood. Citizens could be seen mingling with each other while their Spirits run around searching for small game.

I head straight towards the town center with Haux on my shoulder. His domineering presence automatically creates space for me so big crowds are of no problem. And if someone does come to close Haux usually scares them away by 'accidentally' releasing a thunderbolt at their feet.

With my stick I pretend to not 'see' the faces looking at me from the crowd.

Pity, disgust, jealousy and anger.

But comically enough is that it's not disgust, jealousy or anger that pierces my heart.

No, it's pity. What do they know of my life? Are their lives perfect enough to give them the right to pity me?

Of course this is but a feeling I would never dare to say something like that.

Picking up my pace it doesn't take long until I reach the town center, the Silver Estate.

It was only a year ago I started trying to sense my surroundings with electricity. And now if I focus I can sense everything in my surroundings until 10 meters away.

However if I focus hard enough I can instead choose to sense 80 meter in one direction.

But even when focusing I can't sense the whole Silver Estate. It's simply to big and further more all the small details on the estate makes my head hurt.

Comparing the Silver Estate to the rest or Aspel is like comparing heaven and earth. And Aspel isn't a poor town ship, that you can notice by just walking down the street. No, the Silver estate is just massive.

*shhrrrrriiIIIIIIIIEEEEEEKKKKKKKKK!*

A long shriek echoes through the area. Loud enough to be heard from every corner of the estate.

Then suddenly a golden/red bird the same size as Haux breaks through... yet another window.

The bird Spirit is in my detection range and I immediately sigh.

"Not again..."

Haux, seeing the red golden bird excitingly rubs his beak on my head. Being my life partner and my only friend I naturally know what he wants.

"Okay, go! Don't break anything."

Hearing my voice Haux immediately releases an exciting shriek loud enough to make me go partly deaf.

Then he quickly charges towards the red golden bird already circling above us seemingly comparably excited.

Then another creature enters my detection range, Eric Silver.

A boy my age with pure golden hair looks out through the broken window with a frown on his face.

His eyes doesn't even notice me, or maybe more accurately, he doesn't even put me in his eyes.

Before long Eric's, or what my family has told me to call him Young Master's voice echoes through the surroundings.

"FELIX GET BACK HERE! WE HAVEN'T FINISHED TRAINING!!"

The two birds immediately halted their mock battle, lightning and fire slowly fades away from the heavens. Haux looks towards me and the red golden feathered bird named Felix looks at Eric with a hint of defiance.

Felix is after all a Pheonix. A being which pride rivals that of a Dragon's. Why should he listen to a brat still wet behind his ears?

Now contrary to some beliefs, Spirits aren't under their 'masters' command. They are a manifestation of their soul. You could even say a Spirit is half of the soul.

The only thing which differs between a Spirit and a master is the master's ability to 'banish' their Spirit. This however comes with a great price.

A Spirit is after all half your soul. To banish a Spirit you need to rip your soul in half, a minor mistake would result in death, and not a regular death but the death of your very soul.

But a Spirit or more specifically a Spirit of the Royal rank and higher doesn't fear banishment.

And the Pheonix named Felix naturally doesn't either.

Even without my vision I felt the atmosphere worsen by the second. Even I have heard of extreme cases where a Spirit has started despising its master which results in a life partner that ignores or even ruins your life.

With sweat on my forehead I decide to break the silence.

"Haux, get back here we are leaving."

Haux seemingly understanding the situation shoots a last low voltage lightningbolt at the red golden feathered young Pheonix. Then quickly dash back to my shoulder.

Turning my body I start walking towards the second mansion where my family lives. Unaware that both Eric and Felix stares at my back with mixed feelings.

...

After about 10 minutes of walking I arrive in front of my home. Before entering I stop, without turning my head I speak in a determined voice.

"You need to stop winning against Felix. I know you are more powerful than that rival of yours so you don't have anything to prove. You need to remember not to reveal to much of your power."

Haux remained silent for a while before he reluctantly agrees by a slightly sad chirp.

Hearing this I sigh.

"But if you are sure you aren't being watched I wont mind if you go all out..."

Hearing this Haux chirped happily while rubbing his beak against my chin. I could feel his feathers tickli...

"Hahahahaha n-no stop it! HAHAHAH NO MY EAR PLEASE HAHAAHHAH!"

Haux's number one person is obviously Nero so when he noticed Nero smiling he happily chirped while starting to tickle the young boy even harder.

"PHAHAHHAHAH P-PLEASE I BEG YOU! I-I WILL GIVE YOU A HORNED FIS.. PHAHHAHAHAHA OKAY OKAY TWO HORNED FISHES JUST HAHAHAHAH P-PLEASE STOP!"

"I still can't help but envy your relationship when I see you two acting like this."

Without any of us noticing Caden had opened the door and was looking at us with a smile on his face.

Caden is now 8 years old and his black hair has been left growing now reaching his shoulders.

Behind him is a still growing grey wolf. And as a member of the wolf family you can't help but shiver when looking into its eyes, ready to kill at the snap of a finger.

But I clearly have little to no trouble in that regard. Though I can still feel the cold gaze on me.

Coughing a little to hide my red cheeks I answer Caden.

"Haaahh Caden, I'm sorry I didn't notice you standing there."

Haux noticing the funny game is over reluctantly stopped tickling me and flew over to the wolf, landing on its back.

Caden seeing this sighs while saying.

"Don't worry about it, I've been training in the art of stealth for two years now. If I couldn't even sneak up on my blind little brother I would die from embarrassment."

Hearing this I smile a genuine smile. Caden has alway treated me like a 'normal' person, that's why being around him feels really refreshing.

"Yeah, I can sense that you and Calf has started getting this new kind of feeling to you."

I say while sensing Cadens expression turn into a bright happy one.

"For real?! You're not lying?! I-I was sooo jealous when first meeting teacher's disciples. They all had this cool cold feeling. Heheheheh I'm only 8 but I have already started catching up."

We continued to talk merrily until Caden noticed we where still standing outside.

So with a laugh we headed inside. Charles, my father is working in the Silvers Estate while Emma, my mom is out buying clothes.

Saying good bye to Caden who is leaving to meet his friends I head towards the kitchen to find some horned fishes, otherwise Haux would never forget it... who ever created the term 'bird brain' clearly wasn't right in the head as Haux can hold a grudge for months.

Entering the kitchen I almost trip over my own foot.

"Great, Rina is here..."

Sitting by the table is a girl my age. Her hair is long and silky black reaching her shoulder blades. And even though I don't like her I can't help but admit she'll grow into quite a beauty.

On the table in front of her is a black cat with golden eyes. The cat would look like a completely normal cat if it weren't for its two tails.

Rina's Spirit is of the Luck Stealer specie. A very rare mythological Spirit with an attribute towards luck. The Luck Stealer is ranked high in the Spirit rankings. It's ranked as a Royal rank Spirit. 'Only' two ranks under Heaven.

Her cat type Spirit is named Clair. An unusual name given to a Spirit but what can I say? Rina is an unusual girl.

Seeing me entering the room she snorts loudly. Ignoring her I help myself towards the freezer. Looking around I only find one horned fish...

'That's weird I swear there was three this morning..'

I think while unpacking the fish. Haux, with excellent timing decides to come back from his meeting with Calf (Cadens Spirit). Now different from his relationship with Felix which is that of childhood rivals, his relationship with Calf is somewhat strange. The both of them has the aura of a predator surrounding them, so I guess it's a relationship of mutual respect? Which is really strange as Haux usually never concern himself with 'lesser' Spirits.

Seeing the 40 centimeters long fish with a 10 centimeters long horn his bird eyes widens.

In the blink of an eye he dashes towards me. Creating a gust of wind which spreads through out the hall.

Thankfully the kitchen, or rather every room inside the mansion is quite large.

Stopping in front of me he is almost shaking from excitement.

Seeing this, I smile. He may seem like a scary Spirit to others but I know he is really childish on the inside.

Not bothering to gut the fish I throw it towards Haux. He, like lightning grabs it in midair with his talons. Not even waiting until he lands before he digs in.

"I can't believe how repulsive you and your Spirit are. Have you ever heard of etiquette?"

Hearing the angel like voice, yet defiled by a smug tone I sigh. If only Rina wasn't so proud she would almost be likeable.

"Why should we bother our selves with etiquette when we are alone at home?"

I answer with an indifferent tone, I don't have the energy to put up a good face towards people like her.

Author's Note: Sooo, I decided to end the chapter here so you guys don't get spoiled with crazy long chapters. I prefer to write a bit shorter but more in quantity than one long chapter a week.
