It was a bit early to to get some sleep so I left the inn and walked down a street with some stores I spotted earlier. I didn't spot any places that craft things just sellers, thinking about it someone who can craft stuff wouldn't have time to sell their creations.
Maybe I can get some information at the guild from that man, this time I'll have to ask for his name. My path changes from walking around looking at stores to a direction that would take me to the guild. On the way I stopped by a store that seemed to sell general goods. I bought many things I could use like, a knife for skinning, a tent, multiple interesting spices for cooking, and most importantly a large heavy green cloak with some clothes to go with it. I put the cloak on letting it drape behind me, it reminds me of the ones we used in the jungle they were water resistant but it was thicker to keep the cold out. The rest of the items were placed in my large bag or attached with straps to the outside for the larger things like the tent.
With the essentials purchased I head towards the guild before it gets too late. When I arrive I spot the man closing up just outside the door, when he spots me he says "Well I hope you aren't here for business we're closed for the night"
Shaking my head I say "No, I wanted to ask about where I could go to get some armor made." You pause a bit waiting for him to answer but he just stares at you trying to break the tension you say "I, Uhh, also wanted to ask you what your name is." That seems to have done the trick as he laughs.
"HAHAHA, It took you this long to remember your manners we don't all wear our names on our faces you know." He gives you a slap on the shoulder "Well my name is Geoff, Most craftsmen that would take commission from a man who wears a mask aren't the sort you really want to associate with." He pauses his talking, he places an arm around your shoulder as he starts walking in the direction of the inn you had a room at "Tell you what I know an old family friend that makes all my family weapons they are bit selective with who they work with, I'll talk with my brother tonight and see what he thinks"
You raise an eyebrow "The Geoff family?" Your question causes the man to chuckle before he shakes his head "No the Hunter family, our family founded the hunters guild long ago. The guild is mostly self running now though and we no longer run it." he laughs a bit more before he changes the subject "I got to say I was surprised to see you carrying around a young member of the fox clan. They are incredibly protective of them, I though for sure you were dead the moment when she showed up asking about information on a missing member" he shakes his head "I assume she took her back then since they are no longer with you"
"Yeah I saw her eyeing me as I was leaving figured she would follow me but I never saw her approach she just appeared behind" He whistles a bit "Lucky she didn't just kill you, star ranked hunters are no joke she'd have immolated you before you could even see what direction she was coming from." That brings up another question I have "How do I rank up anyways you never actually told me how that is done."
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
He slaps his forehead "Ahh damn, I rarely process new people and forgot to tell you. Ranking up is automatic, just increase the numbers on your tag and once it is high enough it will change. We don't really have any star ranked hunters in this town I thought you were one passing through when you walked up to the counter but you were just clueless" He laughs a bit more and gives me another heavy slap on the back as we arrive at the inn "Well let me talk with my brother about that introduction come see me tomorrow at the guild we open early in the morning"
It is late now so I head directly upstairs towards the room I got. I don't see any blankets but the cloak I got earlier doubles as a blanket so I use that and lay on the rough bed and try to sleep. Surprisingly it comes quickly and I am awoken by the sounds of the early morning. Walking out of the inn in the early morning I can smell the fresh air and the wind seems to rush to me greeting me with a gentle breeze.
I make my way to the guild and enter I spot Geoff drinking at a table. I sit down at his table and he speaks before I can ask what was decided "Here have a drink" He produces a mug of something that smells alcoholic "I don't drink" it is one of the few things I always adhered to, only on special occasions would I ever actually drink. He looks at me for a bit then shrugs "Well my brother said you took off your mask to eat I was hoping you would take it off so I didn't have to fill in for my receptionists every time you walked in, Some people say you are cursed" He whispers the last part to you as he leans forward.
I chucked at that and figured he must want to make sure I am not actually cursed or something. I place my mask on the table placing it down so it produces a loud sound that causes Geoff to raise an eyebrow. "That's a heavy mask I figured it was more for you hiding your face but it seems it is also an armor piece."
He takes a drink and starts to speak again "Well we agreed to let you see the smith but they have a project they have been working on they need some parts to finish it, so we will let you see them once you bring in this kill then we will send you to them to also escort those parts they are pretty expensive. Don't worry we will still pay you for your work but they really don't like meeting new people this is just a way they won't be able to avoid it." He slides a job posting towards you it was one for Dark Iron your rank it was for a monster, an actual monster. You decided that the boar was safe enough as you had some kind of idea of how it would move but this, this was a giant snake. "A few villages east of here there's this Black Snake, yes I know shitty name but that is what it is called, So far it is only eating animals but soon there wont be enough animals to keep it happy. From what I saw with the boar, the one strike to the heart this should be well within your skill range"
It would take you a day to make it there but there is no way you would be able to take this thing back to the city "I won't be able to carry this back, It's bigger than two horses put together." Geoff smiles at your comment "I'll send a carriage with some men to help you load it up after you leave by the time it arrives you should have killed or been killed by it. Bring it back here we will process it and send you with the materials in a bag to the smith"
With a nod I place the mask back on my face and start to leave. "You see that he has a normal face under there, its not fused to his face, and he isn't going to curse you now stop having me work with him just treat him as a normal hunter." Geoff shouts to his workers who have been sneakily watching the two of you talk. I couldn't help but chuckle at this going to extremes to make less work for himself.
