2 - The Stickiest Stick

2 - The Stickiest Stick

It might not be a magic staff but it would make a great walking stick regardless, or a spear if you cut up some bandages to use as bindings. Once the stick is in my hand I can almost hear a rush as if the wind is rushing past my ears but there is no movement, I shake my head again when I notice it is the excitement getting my blood pumping to my ears "Heh as if it looks just like a long stick"

Like really it looks like a long dry stick I almost toss it into a pile I made for firewood in the morning but I picture it in my hand with my mask and a dark hooded robe. I chuckle a bit at the picture, I'd look ridiculous with my mask I could see it as more of a sword staff though, the handle would be the thicker tip. the long staff part would be the sheath. I mime pulling it out as I imagine it and it does, a thin wooden sword and sheath.

In utter fascination I keep pulling it out and placing it back in. I quickly find out that it is indeed magic when I try to imagine pulling it out but there was no sword it was just a a small handle bit and the long staff no sword or sheath. I then move on to changing how to staff looks I start by doing the classic a scythe a grim reapers scythe. I get the shape right but there is no blade, seems I am limited to a relatively straight stick.

I can change the length as well, it seems to defy physics as I can keep the thickness but make it incredibly short and it would even be lighter. I start by imagining some practical stick forms, lik a spear, a sword I even tried a shield but that failed. I try to make it a rifle or pistol but it does not change form, it would have been nice to have my rifle back but at least I got a servicible weapon. I did try to damage it with my knife but the knife ended up damaged instead it's incredibly tough.

I ended up distracted by the fascinating morphing stick I call it in my head when notice that I am hungry. Looking out it is now morning and the beach is drying in the sun again. Making the stick a combat knife I create a loop to store it on my belt it would make a decent surprise if something happened at least.

I quickly start a small fire outside in front of my shack and pull out one of the two meals I kept stored in my vest I didn't realize it but I was incredibly cold but I was just so excited. Luckily it was a jungle it would be nice and warm soon. I take off my mask to eat, I am almost done when another fox or the same fox from before appears again this time not trying to hide at all. I almost go into fighting mode but remember that this isn't the same world as before, maybe it's just curious? Maybe there aren't any humans on this planet? That would be something...

I was busy thinking about the possibilites when I feel it steal my food and run off. "Hey! You little shit that's not...." I stop speaking it's still a wild animal it just wanted food so it stole it from me shaking my head as I watch it dart beneath some brushes losing sight of it. I let out a sigh I can't really do much else other than pulling out the second meal and eating that.

Well I knew where fresh water was and I had shelter, it was now time to sort out my food situation. Despite being a PMC we didn't do a lot of hunting and when we did it was with our guns I doubted I would get anything good to eat. I venture through the jungle this time towards the stream to fill up my water, I also get the last of the salt out of my hair. I place the mask back on my face after that is done and I spot the little orange fox had followed me under one of the bushes.

It vanished once I spotted it so I couldn't convince it to come out would be nice to have a companion I miss all my friends and it's only been a day so far. Looking into the stream I spot some tracks next to the stream, my good mood chills a bit as I spot a footprint. It doesn't look like a modern combat boot like I was wearing it looked like a flat bottom boot? Whoever they were they were either really heavy or carrying something really heavy.

I put some of that impromptu jungle training to use and listen to the noises, I hear the usual sounds of the jungle mainly bugs the rustle of the leave and scampers of little feet in the underbrush. The wind shifts and I hear the sound of a horse walking down the stream towards me.

Getting low I roll under the brushes where I saw the fox from before. I am a bit suprised when I am met with the very same fox it didn't run just went hidden with me I tuck it under my arm as I wait for the horse to arrive.

Stolen story; please report.

It doesn't take long for that to happen as I peek out making sure to keep still so as not to be noticed. I see two horses actually, one was carrying a fit looking man with no armor on definitely a noble character if I ever saw one, the man behind him was wearing armor though like a knight probably the person who made the prints I saw. They both carries swords with simple practical hilts to them.

I can hear the armored man speak then "It was around here sir, I was tracking the spirit fox for you when I noticed these strange tracks on the ground" You almost swear, they had found your tracks from yesterday. Luckily you started to hide your tracks once you got scared by the fox that you are holding. You can't move though as they are still neerby, the armored man points to one of your prints. "See here I've never seen something like it, think it could be a demon?" You can't help but raise your eyebrows at the mention of a demon so there are more races and this fox must be the spirit fox they were tracking initially.

They dismount and are inspecting your tracks when the noble man speaks "Hmm I suppose the ridges are for extra traction, it could just be a traveler" The armored man spoke again and points to his own tracks "See here he is just as heavy as I was except it seems he got startled and just vanished as if he was never here, something freaky about this I wouldn't be able to hide in full armor even if I wanted too"

He hums' a bit and then stands up straight "Well I suppose this is good enough to put out an alert for strange people hanging around could be a spy or animals vanishing if it is a demon" He taps his chin a bit "We still got to find that fox before it escapes, I wouldn't care, but the king wants her after all" They both mount up and start to leave. "Yes sir, I'll continue the search once you are back at town"

With them gone you roll out from under the bush and laying on your back you hold up the cute fox that isn't resisting you. "Well what'd you do steal from them as well?" You chuckle at the thought of talking to a fox and place them down to the side. With the alert out for unknown people you won't be able to arrive at the town without suspicion, unlike your clothes you don't have a different pair of boots they would easily be able to tell it was you.

You collect your things and make your way back to your shack making sure to clear any signs of your passage on the way back. You sit next to the fire watching the fox that followed you back as it watches the fire. You decide to fish for lunch and dinner turning the morphing stick into a fishing rod, and using the fishing line in the sewing kit a crude hook was made from a few small sticks on the ground should be good enough for dinner for two.

In the time between meals you got to your armor, taking the plates out you removed all the fabric designed to catch projectiles and are left with a front and back metal plate attached to a light frame, it certainly doesn't look like it would protect much, compared to the armored man from before. Hopefully if anyone saw you wearing it they would just think you were a sword for hire. Though I curse that no one would believe that with my mask, you definitely looked like a spy or assassin with it, suppose I was an assassin in a way.

With a heavy heart I wrap the mask up in the heavy fabric that made up most of my armor and place it in the bag. I won't be able to get rid of the mask easily but I won't let it make me a recluse. To really sell the swordsman look I turn the morphing stick into a sword and sheath, I knew I would stand out with my clothing so I went with a style of sword I didn't see the two using trying to play on the traveling swordsman bit. I settled on a tube sheath that was perfectly smooth and the handle had no guard becoming perfectly smooth, you suppose that it was perfectly smooth they fuse together after all. I managed to catch my reflection in the water, you really looked like hot shot swordsman that was trying to make it out in foreign lands. It is true in a way, just it was the entire world not just the country.

I decide I will leave tomorrow and try to find a path towards the next town after this one. I still feel something is missing though, I take out the shoulder pads they are made of fabric really meant to just stop shrapnel from entering into the arms rather than prevent bullet fire. I have no way of actually attaching them to the current armor, maybe I'll have someone craft me something that could it would be use full against arrows. With a sigh I place them in between the two rocket shells to prevent them from bumping against each other making noise.

Spending the rest of the day practicing your sword swings, if you are going to be a traveling swordsman you should at least have some practice with it to keep up appearances. The day passes quickly and you easily get food for the two of you for lunch and dinner.

You put on your mask and lay down to sleep you end up falling asleep quickly but you still noticed the fox never went too far from you it stuck with you since that moment in the brush. It curled up next to you to sleep as well, I didn't mind it really it made me think of the cat I had before fleeing the US she used to sleep just like that next to me as well.
