A bit dramatic to begin with, I agree, but that's the way things are at this very moment in our time space. Today, on the 35th of Aur, the last great wizard of humanity passed away at the age of 250, too young to be a great wizard according to records, but too old to be a normal human.
August Silvaner's life, although short for his profession, was very colorful. He had been part of the beginning and the end of great achievements and scientific advances that marked our lives, from the coal revolution originated by the first steam engines to what now is known as mass production, at the end of his days he was able to be an observer of the new advances that the field of metallurgy and construction has generated.
Magic, as our ancestors knew it, had a too sudden degradation, according to historical records, the human mages of old could easily reach the millennium of existence, rivaling the other long-lived races, and their common feats, for the eyes of a person of today, could only be classified as miracles: flying through the skies, reviving the dead and controlling the forces of nature are just some of the examples that these records give us.
Although to the credit of the recently deceased August Silvaner his personal miracles pale in comparison to those that are established to have happened in the past, we cannot deny their effectiveness and astonishment at seeing them been performed. How could we forget when he saved an entire industrial block from the fire by channeling the waters of the Telles river towards disaster? Now who will be in charge of generating the initial spark in the bell tower to celebrate the new year? True, there is a staircase on the inside to access the lighting area, but the excitement produced by the masses, seeing the sparks detach from his hands and rise through the sky towards the bell tower; it is something that we will not be able to reproduce in the years to come. While his magic was not suited to multitasking it was highly efficient when it came to pursuing a singular purpose.
August used to present himself as a being amazed at all that humanity could achieve together by being an organized entity and finally free of petty fights once the acclaimed "Magic War" ended where he, like all the last magicians, participated hand in hand with the unified world government to defend us from the insurgent forces.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
When remembering this hero we must also remember his regrets, we can all remember his famous composition for the "Atlas" about what at the time seemed to be an imminent war with Ventur, how humanity was using the calls for "high forms of alchemy and blacksmithing" to fight for a single artifact, whose only benefit was the apparent lack of energy to be functional, fearing so much that humanity would be destroyed for being the owners of the blueprint for said artifact, he decided unilaterally and without permission from the government to deliver it to the people, their reasoning being that if everyone owned it, no one would kill themselves for it.
Unfortunately we know that this story ended in many people dying at the hands of what is now called a "gun". After a while, when he returned to face the world, he bitterly apologized for what had happened, accepting that the damage he had done was the equivalent of giving away artifacts that did the damage of a medium-powered mage, but could be used by an infant. Always reminding us that what we call common sense was not something taught in the academies of yesteryear.
Our city bitterly mourns the loss of such an endearing entity, although perhaps many adored him for his actions, we never lost sight of the fact that he was human, that his time would come just like everyone, each generation simply hoped that he would not go away in our time. Unfortunately, on this occasion, the whole world will have to accompany our beautiful city of Taurel in this period of pain, since this loss that many of us feel so close extends to all of humanity, in a world where magic becomes just a memory and a footnote in the history books we can only remember with respect those who presided over us while we look to the future, as August mentioned in his last interview:
"The wonders of this world are limitless, focusing only on the one we lost will confine us and make us unable to reach the ones we haven't discovered yet. So I call on the young, the curious, the restless and the relentless, not to carry on my legacy, but to find their own, which is why the Silvaner Scholarship was originally established."
The Silvaner scholarship, whose origin dates back more than 35 years ago, will now be managed by the city council of our beloved city of Taurel as established in the will of the great magician, who is survived by two of his wives and three children whom will be in charge of supervising that the authorities preserve the legacy of the Silvaner surname.
