Chapter 19: Gray Magic Paper Oath

The knights gathered in a thirteen-platoon form. Each platoon consists of fifty-five soldiers.

“My lady, all the knights, and soldiers are all here now,” Bluew spoke at her, she was sitting on the wooden bench, crossing her leg. Waiting for them while closing her eyes, listening to the wind blowing and the sounds of the leaves.

The commandant was on her right side standing up waiting for her. Zenniah breathed in and breathed out, then slowly open her eyes. In front of her are all the knights and soldiers lining up, looking all at her.

“Listen carefully to what our lady will going to say!” the commander spoke loudly.

“Commander, how many knights do we have?” Zenniah asks.

“We have thirteen knights, my lady each knight has platooned they lead. Each platoon has fifty-five knights, to gather them up all, we have seven hundred fifteen knights. I didn’t include myself, my right and left hand in command,” the commandant replied.

“Seven hundred eighteen, not bad,” she responds. Then she stands up looking at all of them.

“Listen all of you, I want to ask one question, and answer me honestly,” Zenniah used a clearer fierce voice.

“YES my lady!” they responded all together like a roar of a lion.

“Are you all loyal to the duke, my father?” Zenniah didn’t only use a fierce voice but also a fierce eye.

“Of course! My lady,” even Bluew said loudly, putting his left hand into a fist on his chest while his right-hand saluted.

“My lady, I hope you are not offended, but, before the knight or soldier enters a mansion of their master. They need to sign first the Gray Magic Paper Oath for their loyalty,” the commander responds proudly to her. “I assure you all of them are loyal to the Duke Wharlton my lady,” he added.

“Hmmn...... Anyway, the reason I came here, is not because I question your loyalty to my father. But to take my own knight or soldier that will loyal not only to my father but also will be loyal to me,” Zenniah spoke to them with confidence. “I have already talked about this to my father, as you can see it,” she smirks while showing her left hand to them. Showing the yehtirou that gave her more confidence in herself.

The knights and soldiers were kind of confused about what she was saying.

“Excuse me, my lady, but, can you clarify what that’s mean?” Bluew interrupted.

“I want a trusted knights and soldiers on my own. That would follow my order all around. My knight should always be there if I needed him any moment,” Zenniah looks at them with a serious face. Then she turns aside to face the commander.

“One platoon is enough. Can you hand it to me, commander?” She made sure that she gives a look that the commandant cannot argue anymore.

“How? How come our lady became like this?” The commandant thought while looking at Zenniah. “She’s giving a different aura, like an aura of another person,” he continued thinking with his confused mind.

“Commander...” Zenniah looked straight into the eyes of the commander.

“If you already talked about this to the duke, then I can’t say no more,” he said. Then putting his left hand to his chest and gives a salute to the other hand. “I follow the duke’s decision,” he added in a respectful posture.

Zenniah smiled, smiling like she won the war.

“Then I will choose who I want, who will give their loyalty solely to Me,” she turned around to face the knights and soldiers.

“If I remembered correctly, they are always two knights who always accompany her, when she’s going somewhere to meet someone.” She thought while remembering the face of two knights.

She walks to see clearly the faces of the knights whose lining up. She keeps walking until she stops in front of a blonde knight. The blonde knights have short bangs with straight hair until his chest.

“What is your name, Mr. Knight?” She asks while using her riding whip horse into the chin of the blonde hair knight. The knight looks straight into her eyes, and she looks straights back.

“...” The blonde knight didn’t reply to her question.

“Should I repeat what I said Knight,” Zenniah said to him.

“I apologize my lady; I was just distracted by something else. My name is Ednol the seventh knight my lady,” his response to her was like his doubting something.

“I guess, he has a lot on his brain, knocking off, of what's happening now,” Zenniah thought. “His reaction now is like the same reaction of the commander, sort of confused, to add up, they are just like doubting,” she added.

“I see... Ednol, from now on I choose you to be my loyal knight,” she spoke with dignity in her voice.

Before the knight responds to her, Ednol looks up to his commander. When his commander nod to confirm this agreement. He falls one knee to the ground, holds her right hand with his two hands, and spoke.

“I Ednol, the seventh knight of Wharlton dukedom will pledge his loyalty to the daughter of my master.” He pledges to her, then he put her hand on his forehead, a sign of respect and loyalty. “From on this day onward, I will do my very best of my life to protect your safety, my lady,” he continued.

When he's doing it, his platoon under his order falls also on one knee to the ground and bows their heads while saying altogether. “We will follow my lady; we will do our very best to protect your safety on this day onward.”

“That’s a very heartwarming pledge. I’m so touched,” Zenniah said to them. “Girly, give it to me,” she calls her attendant while still looking at Ednol holding her hand.

“Yes, my lady. Here it is,” Girly gives something to her.

She took it and said, “stands up, all of you, and look at what I’m holding right now.” Zenniah showed a scroll to them.

“It’s that the Gray Magic Paper Oath, my lady?” Ednol spoke.

“Yes, my father gave it to me. This is the oath you pledge to be loyal to him. He gave me permission to change the name of your new master to whoever I choose.” She said it clearly to them.

A Gray Magic Paper Oath is made only for knights and soldiers. To pledge their loyalty to their master. The master will put a little bit of blood and the only allowed to write on the paper oath. If your master puts your name, it will sip the letters written in the paper oath. Then it will give the heart of a knight or soldier a minute of pain like putting a spear in their heart. If you betray your master, the pain will never stop, it’s better to choose death rather than endure the pain forever.

The pain will be gone, if your master will erase your name on the Gray Magic Paper Oath, only your master can do it. Each royalty house has only one gray magic paper oath because it’s not easy to make it when a life is included. It will take a year's to make it for only one gray magic paper oath.

The dukes give permission for the gray magic paper oath to Zenniah because they have the same blood. The gray magic paper oath will recognize the same blood of its owner.

“Then, shall we change your new master,” Zenniah smiles at Ednol. A smile of victory.

“...”
