Oh Jerry, How Thee Doth Fly

Oh Jerry, How Thee Doth Fly

Confusion was all over Jason’s face. This was just too big of a surprise.

Wha-…. What the heck…. Jason thought thunderstruck.

In ‘Reality Controlled’, the virtual reality game where he first acquired the Limitless Ring, it had nothing said in it about Immortal slaying weapons, a reward system or a berserker mode. Much less that the ring had a human form!?!

Rein, noticing that something surprised Jason to an insane degree, pestered Jason to show him what it was about the status window that surprised Jason so much.

“You can’t see it?” Jason questioned.

Rein snorted then spoke irritably. “Of course I can’t, even High Gods can’t bend reality, only the laws they are gods of.”

Filing away his questions for later, Jason thought about sharing the status screen, almost immediately a ding! Sounded out and a window popped up

Share Status Screen with Rein?

Y/N

When jason pressed accept, he was greeted momentarily by one of the most satisfying things he has ever had the pleasure of experiencing.

A silent Rein.

This glorious moment of tranquility was brought about by the fact that like Jason, Rein also couldn’t believe his eyes.

However like any good moment, it could never last, because as soon as Jason started to be able to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, Rein started yammering unintelligibly.

“An ability boost of x4?!?! A Living being, one of the limitless variety?!?! WEAPONS CAPABLE OF DESTROYING ETERNAL BEINGS?!?!”

As jason tried to, once again, recover from the ringing pain in his head he questioned Rein why he was so incredibly emotional over this information, like it’s shocking, but not to the point that Rein should be bouncing around his head joyfully.

“This means we can kill him! This means we can win! This means that there is hope! I was so scared I had made the wrong choice choosing you but now I know we can finally kill-”

Rein suddenly stopped speaking. Which prompted Jason to speak “Rein, kill who?”

Rein sighed and for once lost his vindictive attitude. “That is…. A discussion for another time.”

Jason was lost in thought, he could obviously tell this was a sore subject for Rein so he left it alone for now until he was comfortable talking about it.

“Jason! Look to your left!” Rein suddenly yelled in a warning.

Quickly turning, Jason saw a huge armada of what he could only call sand battleships.

Huge, metallic monstrosities, slowly sliding across the massive expanse of level sand as far as the eye could see.

Towering over the waves in this ocean of sand, they silently, almost ghostly, floated over the rolling waves.

There had to be over a thousand, all covered in heavy silver and brown metals. Producing a Steampunk feel to the fleet.

It was a stunning sight, and it was made even grander by the gigantic flagship, larger than any of the other ships by ten times. With it’s magnificent gold and red designs carved into the sides, it created the image of a giant red, gold and brown sun with a sea of asteroids and planets orbiting it.

Stunned beyond words, Jason could only stand on the shifting sands and watch as they quietly glided into the distance.

“Where do you think they are going?” Jason asked almost imperceptibly.

“Don’t have a clue, we need to get a move on though, because wherever they are going, it’s not going to be a walk in the park. So get us out of here.”

“I can do that?”

Rein facepalms (which is weird since he doesn’t even have a physical body). “Use the wish function.”

Jason thinks for a moment. Wish function: Insta travel to nearest settlement.

WHAT IS YOUR DAMN PROBLEM RING?!?!?!

Wish Granted: Knowledge

You are a loser, who by some fucked up luck gained the most powerful support item in the world, yet is still a loser. Granted, you haven’t really needed to level up or fight anyone yet, but it is embarrassing being owned by you.

Oh very funny...

“Maybe you should wish for a camel with an equal brain capacity as you heheheh.”

I was wondering when he would chime in.

In a moment of just not caring, Jason wishes for a retarded camel.

Wish granted: Retarded camel

Take care of Jerry, he is the only one who understands your pain. heh.

Oh. My. Fucking. Limitless. Ring.

Jason was infuriated, He was literally about to rip the ring off his finger and throw it into a volcano.

As he was wondering if he could punch a bratty ring a camel materialized in front of him.

“HEE HAW HEE HAW”

Rein couldn’t stop laughing, if he had a physical body he would probably die from lack of oxygen.

“IT’S FUCKING MAKING DONKEY NOISES!!!!!” Rein gasped through the laughs

Jason just wished this moment could end, he wished for anyone to talk to besides the ring and Rein.

Wish Granted: Jerry talk function activated

----Two hours of learning to ride a singing retarded camel and watching the never changing desert later-------

So, as Jason was ignoring his retarded camel that was currently singing ‘the wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round’, he asked Rein about the sand battleships and if he knew where they were.

Rein thought for a moment before answering. “Hm, there is only a few planets that have a desert as strangely dead as this and with an inhabitants that has sand ships like those… To be honest I might be wrong, but if I’m not we are in a shit load of trouble…”

“Why is that?” Jason inquired.

“Well ignoring the fact we must depend on a petty ring and a loser with a level of three, it’s because we are most likely on the planet Dorundignor….” Rein muttered.

“Dorundignor?”

“Yes, it’s a wasteland planet inhabited by the worst criminals of a certain universe, basically a jail. No way out. Only in. We seem to be near its largest kingdom. Also, besides the murderous criminal inhabitants, there are some nasty wildlife….”

“Such as?”

“Well to name a few, Sand Wurms, Ground Drillers, Giant Dust Bats, Dead Zone Dwellers, Pit Mouths, And a true dragon lineage species: The Sand Dragons.”

“Ummmm….. I think I don’t want to know about any of those.” Jason thought.

The longer he could sleep happily, the better.

“Well, as long as you survive long enough to level up quite a few times we should be fine if we encounter anything, as long as it is not Dead Zone Dwellers, Pit Mouths or Sand Dragons…. I swear you would have to invert your insane luck quantity to be so unlucky as to run into a Sand Dragon though.” Rein said as they kept watching the distant fleet of sand battleships.

“What even are those creatures?” Jason asked, finally unable to hold in his curiosity.

“Ugh, well, I will just tell you about the ones we have to watch out for at this moment. To start off with, the Dead Zone Dwellers are mutations of the Soulbound, that were released by the criminal inhabitants. It all started A couple thousand years ago when they were excavating the planet for metals. Back then they were digging deeper and deeper when they suddenly broke through into a cavern that was a central base for an ancient civilization that lived underground so as to avoid conflict with the Sand Dragons, which were quite numerous so many millennia ago. This ancient civilization was a prosperous titan of the universe, they had power over nearly every planet, yet they were more peaceable and conflict avoidant than you humans. How they managed this was strange, they were a species that had a collective mind, if that makes sense. It was basically an innate soul bond, which gave their species its name, the SoulBound… However this was also their downfall, because as they were trying to ascend to immortality, which would be low god status, they failed and the backlash spread a terrifying parasitic disease across their entire species through the soul bond, mutating and changing the peaceful creatures into vicious, starving monsters. They look like praying mantises from your world, with a slight variation since they are around nine feet tall and blood red here.”

Trying to keep that mental image out of his mind, Jason spoke. “So what about the rest?”

Rein replied in a casual manner. “Well, The Pit Mouths are easy to describe, they are literally just giant mouths in the sand that unlucky people fall into. Ugh, however knowing you are a very…. Slow…. Person, I will explain it in more detail.”

And you are a very shitty person… Jason thought to himself, hoping that since they basically share a mind now it would irritate Rein.

“The Pit Mouths are slightly unique here.” Rein continued, obviously ignoring Jason’s comment. “Unlike other variants, the ones here have a strong Illusion ability. It’s nearly impossible to tell them apart from the rest of the sand, it is quite impressive honestly.”

“And the Sand Dragons?...” Jason asked hesitantly.

“Heheh, they're fucking dragons! What more explanation do you need?”

"Ok point taken, so then how do you know all this?"

"Well, being the High God of Reincarnation, you see entire lives of people and you obviously learn a few things."

As jason pondered what he learned, and munched on some wish made food and water, he slowly lost track of time.

"Jason, is it quieter than before?" Rein suddenly asked.

Hearing what Rein asked, Jason stopped Jerry from moving.

He was right, not a breath of wind stirred.

Nothing moved, not even a grain of sand, in the stifling heat and the sun beat down from a sky that seemed too big to be true.

The 360 degrees, flat, featureless, desert horizon met the arch of the sky along a crisp unwavering line.

But looking again at the eastern horizon revealed that it was not quite so crisp as Jason first perceived, it had assumed a slightly smudged appearance now.

Forty seconds later the smudge had grown to a dirty brown band now extending over the entire eastern horizon.

Swiftly, silently, the darkening wall of flying sand rolled on.

higher and higher, darker and darker, wider and wider it grew. Now filling half the sky and stretching from horizon to horizon the rolling black cloud surged on, tinged here and there with swirling bands of purple and little white plumes of dust streaming off the crest in the manner of a Tsunami tidal wave rising up out of the deep.

Darkness fell as suddenly as if some giant hand had reached up and switched off the sun.

"You need to run now!" Rein shouted in Jason's head as an imperceptibly low rumbling sound rose gradually to a drumming boom like the roll of distant thunder.

Then as Jason sped towards the west on Jerry, in the pitch darkness, the monsterous sandstorm struck with a crashing roar and the air was instantly filled with flying sand and a suffocating white dust to the strange drumming sound of the wind was added a loud hissing noise.

Roaring, hissing and drumming, roaring, hissing and drumming, all in total darkness.

As they were racing with no particular path in mind, A huge object was flung through the air and crashed into the turbulent sand around a hundred feet in front of them.

BOOM!

Jason was nearly flung off of Jerry by the shockwave mixed with cutting sand in the pitch blackness of the terrifying sandstorm.

"Holy shit that was one of those sand battleships! Something fucking tossed it over here!" Rein shouted. "Try and take shelter inside it!!!"

"GET TO ZE CHOOPPPPPERRRRRR!!!!" Jerry frantically screamed.

As Jason riding Jerry frantically headed for the overturned sand battleship, guided by sudden flashes of fire.

When he finally got to the ship he jumped off Jerry and raced for a door that was swinging by one hinge and slammed it closed.

Though not before seeing the massive outline of a monsterous beast breathing fire down upon the flagship through the sandstorm.

A Sand Dragon.
