The Limits of Limitless
Ahhh, the relaxing nature of hurtling through space and time... with an asshole in your head.

Ahhh, the relaxing nature of hurtling through space and time... with an asshole in your head.

When Jason woke up, he was leisurely barreling through space and time.

Like any normal person he, once again, was scared beyond all recognition. All that could be seen was a storm of colors, twisting and turning, spinning and colliding, slicing through each other and creating an unbelievable spectacle. As he stared at this magnificent sight in stunned silence a sun suddenly exploded right in front of him, which shocked him back to reality.

“WHAT IS GOING ON REIN?!” He shouted out as infinite galaxies and universes sped past.

After a moment Rein’s slightly critical reply came. “Well, it seems we are on the rebirth side of reincarnation. It’s interesting finally seeing it in person…”

Jason felt a bit confused, if Rein was the High God of Reincarnation, how come he hadn’t seen it before?

When Jason asked, amidst the births and destructions of worlds in the space and time tunnel, Rein’s answer cleared it up.

“You see, at this moment in the cycle your memories are being wiped and you are currently unconscious so I’ve never actually seen this side of reincarnation that even I don’t have control over. However, you and I fused souls which means you have the blessing of reincarnation, which allows you to absorb the luck of future and past ‘you’s and keep your memories and sense of self during the ‘cleansing’ cycle.”

“What do you mean by ‘absorb the luck of future and past’ me?” Jason inquired.

“Well...” Rein pondered for a moment. “Ugh it’s too much work to explain, just open your status window.”

“Uhhh, my what…?” Was the answer Rein got, to his deep annoyance.

Almost immediately he shouted irritably in Jason’s head. “SAY OPEN STATUS WINDOW!!!”

Jason was too curious to bother with Rein’s pettiness so he just decided to go ahead and do what he said. “Open status window!”

Immediately a lovely blue window popped up, making Jason feel like all the crappy mediocrity of his life was paid for in full by the limitless possibilities. Yet all that happiness was for not, it existed just to be smashed and crushed and basically completely obliterated by his stats.

Even though he was currently spiralling around in what even the most drugged up druggies would call ‘waaaaaaayyyyyy too much good shit’ land, he was feeling like an ant watching a foot descend from on high to crush it’s world to smithereens.

“WWWWHHHHHHYYYYY?!?!?! Why am I less than a stupid little slug?!?!?!” Jason screamed out into the abyss, much to Rein’s Schadenfreude.

“Heheh well I would’ve thought you were a stupid little slug from how you did nothing but laze around and live off your parents…” Rein thought out loud on purpose.

“I’m fucking 17 why the hell would that be weird!?!?” Jason hysterically shouted. Dying when you finally are happy, learning you can rule the gods, then learning you aren’t even the match for a slug can really destroy your sense of self-worth…. And your sense of self in general.

“Well to be honest I thought that the owner of such an insanely broken and utterly unfair item would’ve been more interesting..” Rein mocked with a smirk.

Feeling himself gettting angry, he forced himself to take a breath, getting mad or emotional wouldn't help anything at the moment.

"So why am I level 0? I was level 138 and fusing with my video game avatar should've changed my human level."

Rein's reply, once again, helped clear everything up "Well obviously you died, in video games that is a loss of a level or two, in real life that a restart completely." He chuckled to himself for a few second when he saw Jason's depressed attitude.

Jason was second guessing his choice to fuse with this asshole. Like, what was the ring even thinking? How was an invisible assholic parrot, that wouldn’t ever leave his shoulder, worth remembering he had a boring life?

Trying to change the topic, Jason decided to ask about the ring, how Rein knew about it.

“Oh my highlord... You aren’t that stupid are you?...” Was the stinging remark he got, deciding to stay silent Rein got bored and finally answered his question. “ so, my young and completely sub-par friend, I, like many others, have the ability called [appraisal]. It lets us see and understand the things in our sight, and it works exactly like it does in your video games you dense piece of wargnorc nerpolet.”

Jason felt it was very, very good to not ask what a wargnorc or its nerpolet was, and so left that alone. But was irritated and offended nonetheless. “So how did my ring appraise you? It isn’t a living being….. Is it?” Jason asked as he quietly watched the ever changing yet always constant waves of reality washing around them, trying to ignore rein’s constant aggravating comments.

“Well since it is the ring of limitlessness it obvious doesn’t have a limit, whether it extends only to its limitless appraisal or to even life itself, I don’t know just yet. Even a High God’s appraisal like mine turned up mostly blank…. That’s why I decided to escape with you, you were the best chance at revenge I’ve had so far…” As Rein kept talking his voice got quieter and quieter till it ceased to exist, making Jason feel that there was obviously more to the story than just getting bullied by the High Gods… However no matter how jason asked about it Rein stayed quiet, not even uttering a mean comment.

Putting his curiosity aside for now, he focused on more important things, like where the hell he was heading!

“Hey Rein…”

“Yeah?”

“Where the hell are we going.”

“No clue.”

“WHAT THE FUCK?!?!”

“Fun ain’t it.”

“NO IT ISN’T!”

“Well you should’ve asked for a specific place instead of just letting it decide.”

Jason felt like he was about to explode. He had always been difficult to irritate, as shown by his constant uncaring attitude towards Rein’s usual asshole self, but when he realized he could literally end up anywhere, he started to feel the urge to kill that smug ghost.

Trying to stay calm, he spoke slowly “Is there anything we can do about this?”

“I don't know, try wishing, though you probably don't have enough mana, magic power, energy or whatever you wanna call it to change space and time.” Rein laughed loudly, ignoring the fact this affects his fate too.

Before he could wish for anything, the eternally sparkling and colorful mass of whirling space and time instantly went dark, along with Jason's mind for a second time.
