Chapter 22: Brother?

Chapter 22: Brother?

Godfrey stormed ahead while mumbling about the indignity of his situation. He stopped for a second. Then I looked in the air and froze. His facial expression was distorted.

I started running thinking it would be safe to approach and ask him what he saw but he then began running at me. I started backing away when suddenly I felt something landing on my head. A heavy cylinder object and Godfrey disappearing suddenly were all I saw before I fell unconscious.

I woke up laid on my back and the first thing I saw was a cloud the wrong shade of blue. The cloud looks more like I envisioned data would than an actual cloud.

“ Ow, That data thinks it's sneaky role-playing as a cloud to win hide and seek. Ow, my head I clenched my fist to brace for the pain but then noticed a small vial the size of a tube in my hand.

The contents of the vial were a mixture of gold, purple, and blue. “Hurry up and drink it. An unfamiliar voice but one I that I heard before called from in a dense cloud of data. It's a gift from the gods and you are acting like it was poison.

“ Who are you?" I said as I readied to throw a fireball at the voice. I lit a small ball of fire in preparation and where is Godfrey and, Merlin as well?

“Calm down,” the voice said from directly behind me.

“ It's an experience potion. Just drink it and try to absorb as much of the nutrients as you can.”

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

“Calm down,” the voice said from directly behind me.

I jerked my head back in the direction of the voice but saw nothing but the endless expanse of data.

“ It's an experience potion. Just drink it and try to absorb as much of the nutrients as you can.” The voice said again from the direction I was just facing.

The more you absorb the stronger you’ll be. The voice said directly behind me.

Turning around again I was faced with a beast cosplaying as a man. The man had a feral expression with red hair and red armor.

Then he said something I didn't expect “I thought you were in demon territory hunting for a Silver. How did you get here? The god’s haven't yet gained access to that part of the world.

I froze at the sight of the man. His red hair flickered like fire, and his armor gleamed with a molten hue, intricate designs etched into the metal as if it had been forged in the heart of a volcano. His feral expression and piercing eyes weren’t exactly friendly, but there was something oddly familiar about him.

My chest tightened and memories started racing through my head. But they weren't my memories. They were the other me most of them were normal things but when it came to the man in front of me. Who was now staring down at me with a preparatory gleam.

The memories of my big brother resurfaced his hellish training. His devilish grin and his constant use of explosions trying to kill me.

The realization hit me like a thunderclap. My mind raced as Greg’s voice from his stream echoed in my memory, describing Kallus, the “best red-damage dealer,” with unyielding reverence. But the man standing before me, the so-called “best,” was far more terrifying in person.

“You’re Kallus, aren’t you?” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. I struggled to reconcile the image of a mere game character with the flesh-and-blood figure whose presence radiated menace.

His smirk widened, revealing sharp teeth that gleamed unnaturally bright. “Took you long enough to figure that out, I’m hurt my little brother didn't remember me” he said, his voice dripping with condescension. His eyes, now visible and burning like twin embers, held an intensity that felt almost magnetic. I found myself drawn to them despite my growing unease.

“ I thought I would have to beat my image back in your skull. But luckily it didn't come to that. So now listen to your older brother and drink the potion. Before I force it down your throat. “

I tightened my grip on the vial, my fingers trembling as my chest tightened further. The weight of his words bore down on me, and the memories—the fragments of a life I hadn’t fully lived—swirled chaotically in my head.

“You’re not my brother,” I said, my voice firming up despite the anxiety clawing at my insides. “I don’t know who—or what—you are, but this? This isn’t real.” I gestured at the endless expanse of data, at the warped clouds pretending to be the sky.

Kallus laughed, a deep, booming sound that echoed unnaturally. “Oh, it’s real, Karlos. Realer than whatever fantasy you’ve been clinging to.” He leaned in closer, the heat emanating from him making the air shimmer. “But sure, go ahead and keep telling yourself it’s all just a dream. I thought you were over this whole disowning me foolishness and you're still on the mage path when I told you were better suited for a warrior. ”

Before I could utter another word, Kallus grabbed me by the throat and held me above so my feet couldn't touch the ground so I had to look directly into his eyes. Which is a feat in itself because I am 6 foot 3. Well am I. I've gotten a smaller sense entering this body. The tightening of his hands brought me out of my musing and to the fact I was being choked.

The air left my lungs as Kallus’s grip tightened around my throat. His strength was unreal, his molten eyes boring into mine with an intensity that made me feel as though he could peel away my very soul. My hands instinctively shot up, clawing at his ironclad grasp, but it was no use. The heat radiating from him was oppressive, his presence overwhelming, and the shimmer of his red armor only amplified the sense of power he exuded.

“You’ve always been stubborn,” Kallus said, his voice low and venomous. “That’s why you never listened. But now? You’re out of excuses.”

I managed to croak out a few words, my vision starting to blur. “Let… me… go…”

He narrowed his eyes, and for a moment, I thought he might actually drop me. Instead, he lowered me closer, his fiery gaze filling my entire field of vision. “Not until you get it through that thick skull of yours,” he snarled.

“This isn’t the world where dad built to protect you. This is God's game, sure you might not be able to die but it will affect you mentally. You might deal with a few small enemies. Or we might end up facing a dragon. Who knows but I know if you don't drink this willingly I'll make you re…

His sentence was cut off with a slash to his armor. He growled and tossed me.
