A Fire Mage In A Frozen Land

The Last Huge City And The Last Fire Archmage

A city near a frozen ocean was covered by a firewall, the firewall was managed by the last fire archmage, he was a very old man and he knew his time was coming. He looked outside from his castle and noticed a snowstorm coming to the city's way, he rushed outside and prepared to defend the city.

People started to gather around, they all wanted to watch the fire archmage cast spells. The snowstorm hit his firewall and the firewall started to disappear but he cast more fire magic and the firewall was barely enough to block the snowstorm but an ice shard pierced the firewall and hit the archmage's heart, he was dead and his firewall started to fade away, all of the citizens froze to death.

A Fire Mage's Path

As I was walking through the thick snow, I heard a sound, the sound of a fire being extinguished. That sound meant many things so I unrolled my map and I looked at it. I counted three red spots on the map, each of them represented a city but the largest red spot was missing, that meant the fire mage and the governor of that city died.

"So…Archmage Lorens is dead…" That man was a legendary mage that saved millions of human lives, that man was the first man that encountered the snowstorm and beat it. There were now four fire mages left in the world.

I couldn't let the despair take over my mind, I had a duty to protect my people and I was going to do it to the day I die just like the Archmage.

I was running low on food and I needed to get some equipment as well. I looked for the closest city and I saw a familiar name "Mithrus" The city that was carved into the great mountains and had huge walls, after the "Colony Law" that city was the first city to fall, no one knew why but everyone saw that city's lights go out on the map.

Normally I was going to be that city's fire mage but it was changed at the last second, an archmage took my place and I was sent to protect an ocean.

Yeah, a fucking ocean. A frozen ocean with no life.

I wanted to go to Mithrus for resupplying but I was also scared of that city and so I changed my direction to a normal city named "Haol."

All Worship The Snowstorm

The peasants were gathered around the city center, all of them held weapons in their hand and all of them had a symbol of a snowstorm on their heads. There was a fat nobleman lying on the ground with his head chopped off, this man seemed to be the governor of that place.

A man was about to be hanged, he wore a red robe that showed he was a fire mage and the peasants were yelling at the man while throwing things at him, the look on that fire mage's face was full of despair, he started to laugh maniacally and yelled at the peasants.

"You idiots! You know nothing about that snowstorm! That thing won't give you anything, it will simply take." And so the fire mage was hanged, the firewall of that city fell and the snowstorm froze everyone in that city, they all had smiles on their frozen faces.

The Plagued City

Once a famous trade city, now a city with empty streets full of rats.

A man lied on a bed, he had blisters all over his face and the people treating him also had those, everyone did whatever that man wanted because that man was their last hope. Their governor died two years ago to the same plague and now their fire mage was about to die and they were right, their fire mage died after saying these words.

"I be born, I be grow, I be a fire mage, I be running, I be defending, I be dead."

Again, the firewall fell and the snowstorm killed everyone.

To See Or Not To See

One woman and one man were in a dark room, the young woman wore a blue dress and the man wore a red robe just like the other fire mages, their clothes didn't matter anymore, their jobs didn't matter anymore, their statuses didn't mean anything anymore, all that mattered was food.

"We are out of supplies." She said in a grim tone, they both knew they were about to die. The young woman looked quite pale.

"I am going to rest." After saying that she left the room, the fire mage looked at the supply list for an hour to find something but he was interrupted by a screaming, he picked up his fire staff and rushed to the source of the voice and he saw a maid lying on the ground in front of the governor's office, she pointed her finger at something.

The fire mage slowly turned his head and saw a young woman with a blue dress hanging from a rope. The governor had committed suicide, after seeing this he also went to his room and prepared a rope but when he looked out he saw the snowstorm waiting outside the firewall he created before death he wanted to satisfy his curiosity about the snowstorm and so he went outside.

He was in the middle of the snowstorm, his fire spells started to wear off and he started to get frozen. His legs were completely frozen and it started to go up, he looked around for the snowstorm's core and at that moment he saw….

"I….Understand…Now…." And so the fire mage was frozen to death.

Last One Standing

I heard three sounds of a fire extinguishing, I was too scared to open my map but I did at the end. There were no red spots on the map left, at that moment I couldn't stop the despair reaching my mind, I went mad and burned the whole city of Haol down.

I wanted to burn myself down but an idea struck my mind, I was going to jump off Mithrus's highest balcony and get pierced by the mighty king statue holding the great sword in Mithrus.

Great City Mithrus

After walking for days, I reached Mithrus, the gates of the city were open and I saw thousands of skeletons lying on the ground, these people weren't killed by the snowstorm, they were killed by each other.

"Humanity doesn't change does it?" I always wanted to see the highest balcony aka the highest office in the city, I started to walk there and opened the doors, I saw a corpse that hasn't turned into a skeleton yet, the skeleton was lying on the table. I noticed this was The Grand General Floria, I recognized her from her white military uniform that had many medals on it, I also noticed her throat was cut by a knife she was holding.

"Even the greatest generals commit suicide." I noticed a paper under her head but I paid no attention it because it was probably a suicide note, I went to the balcony and looked down, I saw a huge statue of the first king holding a sword, I was going to get pierced by that sword, I was about to jump but then I heard a sound, I instantly turned around in panic.

I saw the corpse of Floria on the ground, the paper she was holding flew into the balcony and landed in front of me.

"I guess I have time to read that." I picked up the paper and started to read it.

[Everything was going well but then the rebellions started to happen because of that stupid archmage's sacrifices, I knew those were some crazy bullshit but I couldn't go against the man that protected us all.]

[That archmage is crazy, he told me to transfer my soul into the first king's statue. I laughed the idea off but I have a feeling that man is not joking]

[An incident happened today, a peasant attacked the fire mage. Of course, he was killed but the fire mage had a wound, as we were treating his wounds I saw a huge snowstorm symbol at his back. I don't know what that means but I am sure this man is doing something wrong.]

[I am writing this with a knife at my throat, he thinks he is invisible but I can feel his presence. I will try to shake him off but I have a feeling that I won't. Whoever reading this please do not lose hope. Even if you are the last human on the continent never lose hope because that snowstorm has a weakness and that is]

The rest of the paper was unfinished and had blood on it, her words meant something but not for me, I was still going to jump but then an earthquake hit Mithrus, it was strong enough to make me fall down and when I got back up, a giant statue was looking directly at me, this was the statue of the first king and it started to talk.

"I…..Governor….Floria….You…Fire…Mage…" I couldn't believe my eyes, it was my first time seeing a soul transported into a non-alive object on such a big scale.

"Y-Yes. I am Jurian."

"Is…..King…..Fine?"

"The King died four years ago."

"The…Other…Governors?"

"None of them are alive, I am the last fire mage."

"Humanity…."

"Is dead, yeah."

"No….You…Alive…I…Governor….You…Fire…Mage…We….Can….Rebuild…Mithrus.."

"How? Everyone is dead except me."

"I….Feel….Survivors….Light….Signal…" I started to laugh at her request, I knew there weren't any survivors out there but lighting a fire signal was nothing to me, I raised my staff and chanted.

"Flare!" A huge flare started to drop from the sky, it was enough to be seen from many miles away, I waited for minutes but nothing happened.

"See? I told yo-" At that moment five flares lit up the sky, I was surprised to see that many flares. My hope was restored by five flares, I stood up and chanted.

"Fire O' Wall! God Grant Us Your Fearful Magic!" A firewall instantly covered the city and I opened the map. I saw a red spot on the map, it was Mithrus but at that moment the snowstorm started to hit the firewall like a mad storm, I understood that the snowstorm was very pissed and Floria raised her mighty sword and slashed the snowstorm along with my firewall but I was able to repair it easily and the snowstorm disappeared.

"This…Should…Be…Enough."

"We are the last city alive, we are the last hope and we shall not fall." I was the last fire mage in a frozen world inside the last city alive and I had many things to do but first I needed to repair the city in order to live in it and then a screen popped up in front of me.

[City Management System]

[You Have Been Selected As Acting-Governor Due To The Governor's Inability To Rule]

"I want to repair the world."

"Then I want to repair the broadcast room. We need to find survivors."

"Well, I need to get going then." I turned around and left the balcony to search for the materials.
