Fate

CH2

‘Preparations for what? It can’t be anything good considering I’m tied up on the back of some unknown beast.’

It was large. Bigger than any of the creatures back in Mordiv. It possessed the great white mane of a Snow lion from back home and was decorated with seemingly steel scales. They were sharp. Sharp enough I could feel them digging into my stomach.

‘What a strange beast, I bet these scales could be used to craft powerful armor.’ I thought to myself.

The beast not only differed from all I have known physically but I began to question if I could truly consider it a beast at all. Its movements and expressions seemed aware, perhaps intelligent.

As the daylight bled through a silent trip and the darkness made its approach my captors began to tire and let down their guard just as mine had reached its peak.

“Dovak. We’ve been going slower than usual and it’s already dark out. Do you think it is already waiting?” The shrouded man blurted anxiously. Dovak gazed at the brilliantly lit sky and pondered to himself for a moment.

“No. There was a big meal last night. It should be a while before it is hungry again.” A brief silence leaving only the thumping of our ride filled the air.

“We have bigger problems to worry about brother do not cloud your mind. It’s been reported that the princess has escaped. We need to stay vigilant.”

“What seriously?!? She has never left the castle; this is a serious emergency! What is the Royal family doing?” The younger one chirped loudly.

“Samael has been sent in an effort to locate her in the case of a kidnapping, and the Royal council is in talks with the Favik kingdom.” Dovak stated with confidence.

‘Princess? Favik kingdom? I am not in any world I know of. If I am not at home, nor heaven could I have been reincarnated? I questioned as the beast began to slow.

‘Considering I can feel pain and am obviously alive it seems likely. I think I also remember Dovak calling me a juvenile.’

Hoping my combat skills would translate, I prepared to fight my captors as our momentum came to a halt. In front of us all sat an enormous tree. Its bark radiated a dim glow which provided a comforting warmth amidst the darkness. However the surrounding ground was littered with bones and corpses of man and beast alike. The warmth only enhanced the smell of death, ruining what was originally a beautiful scene.

“We’re here now, let's make this quick. We have a lot on our plate.” He groaned while roughly removing me from the mount.

“Look kid-“

Our eyes locked. No words needed to be exchanged. We both understood what the other was feeling as if we were twins. Dovak instinctively shot back. He withdrew his blade, arming it in preparation to cut down an enemy.

‘What the hell was that look!? Such a powerful bloodlust, I understand he must be mad we are gonna leave him to die, but how can such a young boy have that look? What has he been through? No, what has he done to get those eyes!’ Dovak worried silently.

“Huh? What wrong Dovak. You look worried?”

“It’s nothing brother, just hang him now. It should be here any minute now.”

I was left hanging from my feet in the darkness like a trapped animal awaiting its death. but I was not alone. The screeches began to appear closer and closer as time elapsed. A tiny silhouette appeared on the horizon. The pressure in the air suddenly changed, I could only watch in panic as the massive wings began to appear larger and faster. Murderous intent was in the air.

‘Am I seriously going to die not even a day after being reincarnated.’

“WHAT THE HELL WAS THE POINT!” I screamed at the creature only seeming to agitate it further. It was now close enough that I could make out its features. It was monstrous. Its wings spanned over 20 meters allowing it to travel with inhuman speeds. The bird had one massive amber eye which shone through the darkness placed right above its beak, which was dark black and curved as if it were a scimitar. Its claws each the size of a human arm.

‘Damn these binds I can barely move my body! I’m going to have to try and bait it into ripping the cable that is my only hope. If I survive this I vow to learn about this world and get stronger! I know more than any that strength is what decides the winners from the losers.’

“If I couldn’t become the King of Kings in my past life. I’LL DAMN WELL MAKE IT HAPPEN HERE!”
