Nick
A few days after the day of my 16th Nox one of the older boys got a tip. The biggest convoy we had ever seen. Best of all it was heading right into our territory.
It was our biggest score, a well known merchant one of few who came out this far was carrying lots of supplies and many wagons. The kingdom was planning to expand under the queens rule so they started to bring more business and construction out here.
“Peanut you ready man?”
“Ready as I can be Stink.”
You couldn’t have friends in Lucden, everyone was cutthroat and evil. You learn that at a young age here, but if I could call one person my friend it would be Stink.
We had known each other since he was sold to the mines. I’d already been there a few years so I showed him the ropes. The best spots to sleep and the times we got food.
How to properly use the tools and use as little energy as possible. He was like my little brother. We always stuck together.
As we grew up he started getting extremely big, I grew as well but it was like a baby rabbit compared to a boar. His hunger grew just as fast as his size.
As time passed we needed to work harder and steal to feed ourselves.
With the theft increasing Stink started doing more daring crimes.
His large size allowed him to bully an strong arm the younger kids and even most of the adults didn’t want trouble with the boar.
I couldn’t stay in the mines forever, I knew that wasn’t my life, so I would join Stink in the crimes. I started to gain reputation and name for myself as well.
Everyone knew I was able to do spooky things and was in Stinks gang so nobody dared to bother me.

Sadly as time went on and we got older Stink started to treat me more and more like every other delinquent. Our connection only stayed strong because the abilities I had. Even then I felt like I wasn’t welcome anymore.
It was a surprise to me that Stink even invited me on this heist, he hadn’t asked for weeks now. It must be a serious one if they needed the abilities I had.
It wasn’t much but ever since that day with Coyote I could control the wind. Only small things like pushing objects or blowing out candles but in the criminal city we were able to use it for scams, stealing, and other nefarious deeds.
Stink said with a little impatience.
“Stop thinking so much, the wagons are gonna be here soon. We need your weird tricks to alert the other guys. So be ready.”
Then he scowls and says.
“Since you’re weak you only get what we leave behind stay back here and keep lookout like usual.”
So that’s what it was, I was only invited to be a lookout and that was it. He didn’t want me around like the old days. I had helped him but now I was just a waste of space.
Stink then smacks my head with harsh words.
“I TOLD YOU, PAY ATTENTION!! Set off the alarm and whatever you do fucking make sure to alert us if things go south.”
He calms a bit and gives the order
“Send out the announcement let everyone know it’s go time!”
As he stands up the rest of the boys he leads grab their assortment of Jerry rigged weapons. Dull axes, chipped knives, beat up picks and an assortment of sticks with random farm tools strewn amongst them.
As they start running towards the wagon I notice the bright moon tonight.
“It’s much more beautiful than normal..”
I mutter to myself as I create a huge gust of wind picking up the sand creating a cloud so the other teams would notice it was time to move.
We should’ve known.
There isn’t ever convoys out here, the few wagons that do show up always have a few guards with them. We should’ve known.
It was a massacre, I tried my best to alert them. It was too late. By the time stink and his crew got to the wagons multiple Royal Knights stepped out of the convoy.
Trained soldiers against delinquent children there wasn’t any chance of success.
All I could do to help them escape was creating a dust storm covering the soldiers eyes. We had used this trick many times before to escape so every crew member was assigned storm goggles. If they saw the cloud they’d know to put them on an escape.
Stink somehow survived and was the first back to safety. Yelling at me he started punching angrily.
“I TOLD YOU PAY ATTENTION! WARN US IF YOU SAW ANYTHING!!”
With each punch there was more aggression.
“YOU MADE US FAIL!! YOU CAUSED THIS!! YOU ARE A FREAK I KNEW THOSE POWERS WHERE UNLUCKY!!”
Letting all his wrath fall on me my friend disappeared, in his shoes was a monster. Nothing I’d say or do could fix it. This wasn’t like Coyote, I didn’t know that kid. Stink was my friend, even if that was old, I still saw him as my little brother.
I couldn’t think of killing him I just stared as I was beatin completely quiet. Just hoping he’d stop, realizing what he had done, but it never happened. The world started going dark as I heard someone speak to stink.
“Yo man that’s enough, you have seen what he can do. Just leave him.”
It was the voice of Coyote, he had stepped in grabbing Stink off of me. It had been years since what happened in the cave but I wouldn’t have expected Coyote to be the one to help me.
I couldn’t focus on that anymore I was starting to black out from the pain. All I could hear now was the rest of the boys run off, and the armor of the Royal Knights slowly approaching.
The clanking of pieces of metal was the last sound I heard before falling unconscious. Betrayed an beaten I was left behind. Forgotten about an abandoned again.
