Chapter 24: To be someone else

Chapter 24: To be someone else

A few days passed, Zale continued seeing his past whenever he had time and Aster studied the alchemy books. But today was an important day for Aster as he had talked with Sophie and sent him the location for his desired fake ID, M.Aster was prepared as he had made the identity he would use and everything else that was needed.

But before that, Aster wanted to train his weapon skills. Today was Saturday, so he had a lot of time before the meeting.

While his other skills had leveled up around 5 levels in a week, he still had to make a training plan on all the other skills that weren’t being trained.

The majority of the skills he had to train now were offensive ones like his weapon arts, attack skills, ground control, earth destroyer, wood changer, super speed, future sight, throw, steal and all other kinds of spells.

But there were some problems, how could he train everything at the same time? He only had two hands so at maximum he could only train with two weapons, maybe if he used his bones to hold more weapons... as he thought on how to make his second training program, he kept walking to his destination.

Because he was in deep thought he felt like only 5 seconds passed before reaching the location, while going to his private room he planned on a way to train.

First, he grabbed a defensive dummy that centered on reconstructing its body when damaged and keeping itself standing, second, grabbing all the weapons he would use and leaving them in the surroundings, and now the last step, beat the shit out of it with everything he had.

Grabbing two guns, he shot it at high speeds, bullets hiting its head, legs, arm, torso. When the guns became fully empty he threw them away as he blinked away towards his daggers, grabbing them and blinking towards the dummy, slashing all its body. After multiple short slashes and stabs, he changed weapons once again grabbing a sword and slashing it, deep cuts appearing all over its body. After enough cuts were made he changed to a spear, piercing it rapidly multiple times, he then rested the spear on the ground, manipulating the floor to leave a chunk of it on the blade of the spear, forming a makeshift hammer and smashing it against the dummy. In one of the blows he blew the dummy into the air, changing from the hammer into a bow, because he didn’t want to waste time he used his blood as arrows, filling it with holes and making it look like a red porcupine.

While the dummy was full of scratches and wounds, its reconstruction was faster, keeping it in one piece as it fell back to the ground. As it started to stand up Aster reloaded the gun and repeated the process.

He kept going like that for two hours, every time he changed weapons it felt more smoothly, every weapon he used felt very different, a hammer felt like a great river with a torrential flow, the bow like a calm river, daggers like small but fast rivers, the spear like a long curving river, the sword like a simple river and the guns were a complete straight river.

But as he continued using them continously, he felt the rivers merging together, he felt that as the rivers continued they were getting closer and closer, until finally, all of them fused together.

skills evolving hammermanship, evolving bowmanship, evolving daggermanship, evolving gunmanship, evolving spearmanship have evolved into lowest weapon mastery

T3 lowest weapon mastery Lv8

To master the basics of muliple types of weapons and merging them all into one, allowing you to use a large variety of weapons more easily.

Weapon efficiency and affinity +150%

After obtaining that skill knowledge was forced upon Aster’s mind, more exactly, a change of knowledge. All the knowledge of how to handle each weapon became one, forming a large inmense book.

Similar weapons could now use the stances of similar ones, he could use a normal sword as fast as a short sword but it’s strenght would lower, or with his blood swordmanship and also with the stance of a... large sword? “I never trained with a large sword, how do I have knowledge of it?” as he was thinking about that, he reread the information of the skill “to ‘use a variety of weapons more easily’... is it saying that similar weapons can be used without problem?” he decided to test it out by making a large sword with his blood.

As the sword was made, Aster instinctively knew how to grab it and attack with it “wow, this is crazy good! It’s as if I had trained with it for months!” he did the same with his hammer, but a smaller version like a morning star, it was a similar brute strenght but movements more refined than a large hammer, the same with a large bow, a pike, a staff and more weapons.

“if it’s like this at its lowest form, how will it be once evolved?” it was a curiosity he had, not only on this skill, but on the other ones. For him all of these powers he had were already very strong, but if he did the calculations with his magic skills, a T4 is a mid rank, meaning that all the powers he had were low-mid. It only made him more excited of their future enhancements and evolutions.

“oh, I also got some new skills”

“huh, it must be from using the hammer and the spear, well, like always, all skills are accepted here” as he said that, his phone ringed from the alarm he had put before training “wait, so much time passed already? I have to get going!”

He cleaned the place, packed his things and went out of the training room, Sophie had sent him a direction that was at the border of the wall inside the city, it was a place rarely visited or used by anyone because of the noise and threatening aura of the outside.

After taking a few minutes of running, he reached the border in wich civilians could go “I knew of the wall surrounding the city, but I.... actually never saw it so up close” he looked upwards, a gigantic wall reaching the clouds, he could see some holes on the wall in wich people passed by, the workers who’s job was keeping the wall repaired and stable.

He could see with his sixth sense a wall of energy surrounding the wall like an extra layer, Aster analyzed it, coming to the conclusion that it was for any monster that could use energy attacks and as another form of deffense “maybe the large quantity of workers is just to keep the energy generator going and also to keep outlaws from barging in” as he came to a simple conclusion he remembered what he had to do.

He explored the empty streets, finally reaching his destination, a shabby looking grocery store.

Of course, before reaching it he had already changed his appareance and his mind, now M.Aster was the one in control of the body.

...

“hello, is it still open?” a man with a slightly sharp face walked in, he had brown hair and green eyes with white glasses, he looked like he was starting his early twenties, he was searching over the shelves.

He looked at the man at the counter, it was an old man, around his fifties or sixties, he was bald and had no left eye, as there was only a scar covering it “what do you want?” he said with a harsh voice.

“oh, nothing much, its just that I can’t find what I’m looking for, could I take a look at the back?”

“.... and why do you think I would let you go in there?"

“well, I’ve got things to do and this place was the closest place to get what I want, thanks to a good friend of mine I got enough money to buy the things I need”

“and what are the things you need exactly?”

“well.... I need Iced tea and Dried fruit, with that its enough”

“..... follow me” the old man got up from the chair, making the young man follow him to the back of the store.

‘succes’ M.Aster thought to himself, as the transaction had begun.

Before coming here Sophie had sent him some instructions to talk with the man who will do the job, what he does was an illegal job so to get his help the people who wanted his help had to do a meticulous way.

First, he had to respond in a specific way to his first question asking to look at the back, meaning he wanted something from his other job, second if he needed the job done now or if it could be done at a later time, third was the form of payment, it would be paid by someone’s else money, and the last one and most important, what he wanted, ‘I’ced tea and ‘D’ried fruit, ID.

As he opened the door, letting the young man enter first, he turned on the lights showing his real workplace “you wanted an ID, right?”

“yes, thank you for helping me” said M.Aster, bowing slightly.

“no need for that, I’m just doing my job” the old man walked towards the table that was on the middle of the room, signaling the man to sit down as well “so, your friend will be the one to pay for it?”

“yes, here’s the money given” he took a small card from his pocket and left it on the table “all the money necessary is stored here, now, can we get started on it already? I need to save as much time as possible”

The old man chucled “huh, straight to the point.... I’ll need all necesary informatio-” as he was talking, the man left a paper on the table.

“here is everything, photo, information, Birth date, etc, but when will it be done?”

As the old man took the paper, he responded “lately, more criminals have been entering this city, increasing the security and endangering the safety of my friend working on the internal work, so it will take some time for your new identity to legally appear in the city’s database”

“then how long will I have to wait?”

“just give me a few days, if the security is too high then it will take some weeks, but if you are lucky maybe it will done in a day or two” the man reached into his pocket “Here, take this” he left on the table a small machine with a little red led light in the center “once it activates it will mean that your ID is ready, do not lose it and keep it close to you until you come back”

“understood, it was a pleasure working with you” he shook his hand as he got up, leaving.

The old man looked at the paper that was given to him, reading what he had to change from another ID ‘uh? What a weird name to give yourself...’

...

“really? Masater? You just added an A in the middle of your name! And I thougt you were the most inteligent of us...” OG Aster said, complaining to M.Aster as if he were behind him, talking inside his mind.

“sometimes simplification is better, it will not make a huge difference in my name but it will still be different from our original one” he had already walked far away from the shop, enjoying the view of the wall, he was examining the energy covering it “... you know, I was thinking, in the books from school it explains how the world outside the wall is, but I’m actually curious on how it truly looks”

“just wait for some time, once we are ready FABL will go outside an-”

“but that’s the thing” M.Aster interrupted OG Aster “I trained personally FABL since the start to make him a perfetc survivor to those harsh environments, but that’s it, he knows how to fight and survive but not to plan things out, that’s why I thought of another thing... I should go with him”

“.... are you sure? I mean, it’s your decision and all but you should also think of the consequences, right now you are the most powerful force in our mind, you can do the work of seven EX Asters by yourself, if you went away and leave there will be left a large hole of work that the others will have to fill in”

“I know, and I also know a solution for it”

“oh really? I hope for it to be better than the name you gave yourself”

“...” M.Aster ignored the last part “I was planning on changing the work inside the mind, everyone will be sepereated in equal numbers and work under each evolved mind, evolving to become better at one thing assigned to them than to be mildly good at everything”

“... that sounds good, but are you sure that it will work?” OG Aster asked, a bit nervous of the possible results.

“yes, a 100%, if they get more efficient at it there will be a lesser need for us, increasing our total work”

OG Aster closed his eyes, thinking about it “mmh... okay, you got me, I’ll let you in charge of that”

“... about that, could you do me a favor? Could you do that for me?”

“uh? Why? You would do it better than me” OG Aster was confused at the favor, he knew that M.Aster would do a better job than him when commanding others.

“well, it’s just that being inside the brain all day is very... claustrophobic, I want to see the city by myself. Also, you are just going to walk home, it’s not like the other time wich was something more important”

“..... okay, but I will decide when to stop and change back”

“fine by me”

After a few seconds it was silent again, OG Aster went back deeper in the mind to do what M.Aster asked as a favor.

Meanwhile, M.Aster kept walking, looking around the city in silence, arms crossed behind him as if he were an old man.

He observed the buildings, the trees, the people the shops.... but not only that, he was analyzing everything he saw. The age of the trees based on the size and type, the characteristics of the people and then theorizing the kind of lifes they had based on it, the quality of the objects he found in shops and much much more, all at the same time.

It felt good, it was great being able to walk in the world and see everything by himself, he wished for all the problems to just go away to experience this every day.... ‘if life were that easy’ he said to himself ‘if only I could just see everything without any problem

He knew that wouldn’t happen, there were still many dangers in life and more to come, what they were doing right now was the easiest part, they were training to face the storm that would come.

“I suppose I should get going” he decided to walk back home, he wanted to explore more the city but time was limited, he had to go train once again.

As he was walking back home, he accidentally bumped into a man’s shoulder “oh, excuse me” M.Aster said, apologizing to the man.

“no, actually, I think this is fate but we should talk now...”

Aster looked more carefully at the man, he looked around 40 years old, had a brown coat and had pulled out a badge, a police badge.

M.Aster could only think one thing.

‘Shit’

They were looking at each other, the detective taking the iniciative to talk.

“do you know of the rift that happened some days ago?” the detective asked looking at his eyes.

“first of all, may I ask who are you and what do you want? I have things to do” right now he had to be sure he was actually a policeman and the legality of this.

The detective was only looking at him, using his fate eyes to see into his fate and future.... except that he wasn’t able, to his surprise, a fate changing energy was blocking his sight “do you have on yourself an object made from a monster’s core?”

“I’m within my rights to not answer personal questions, so do not evade what I asked and answer unless you want me to walk away” M.Aster knew his rights, a policeman could question a civilian, but they couldn’t hold the civilian there unless they had proof of that person being a suspect or related to it, but to not look too suspicious he only warned him instead of evading his questions and going away.

“... excuse my rudeness, my name is Jerry Drew and I’m from the police, I already showed you my badge but here it is again and also the badge number. Now that I answered it, could you answer my questions?”

“mmmh, yeah, I suppose I could, first of all I wasn’t present when the rift happened but I heard what happened from the people, and second I will not show my stuff unless I am told why I have been stopped” M.Aster was looking him dead in the eyes, not backing down. He knew that lying would be dangerous, so he told the truth, he heard what happened from Aster and he wasn’t there at the moment because the one in control of the body was also Aster, so technically he told the truth.

Meanwhile the detective couldn’t respond to that, as he had followed his instincts on talking to him, and while his instincts were enhanced thanks to his class and skill they weren’t always 100% correct, meaning that without proof the person he was talking right now was just an innocent civilian.

Without any legal way to make him talk and no way to see his future, he had to back off, remembering his face for another time as he was still a suspect to him “sorry for bothering you” he walked away.

...

Drew was walking to the police station, writing down some notes on a notebook. He always wrote everything down, it could become important in the future.

Right now he was sketching the face of the suspect, he drew it really well, if one day he retired he could take drawing as a hobby, but right now he had to concentrate and think.

Why did his senses point to that man? What did that man had to do with the case? Is he related to the unofficial awakaner who took care of half of the rampaging monsters?

He wrote it all down for questions to answer later, right now he had to find the identity of this man by the drawing he made “I’ll have to go to the central station to find his identity” it would take some days to search it because of all the chaos, but he made sure to put it on his priority list.

...

‘fuck fuck fuck fuck FUCK!!!’ M.Aster was screaming internally, the first time he was free to do anything for a day and he had to be so unlucky to get interrogated by a policeman, he also felt the he had strenght just by seeing him. He was strong, not only in the physical way but in the mental one, his extremely sharp senses.

‘I almost got found out, if the laws were more strict I’m sure he would have searched for my ID, not finding it he would have taken me to the police station and then because I’m not a certified civilian then they would have taken me to prision’ imagining the outcomes he became more nervous, he saw more possibilities the more he thought, more outcomes in wich he was taken by the law.

‘move, I have to get moving, the stronger I get the better for me, please luck bless me for my ID to get finished sooner...’

Just as he prayed for it, he felt something on his pocket, taking it out he saw the pendant that his father had given to him as a present.

T5 Lucky Lv11 (fixed)

He had a blank stare, his sight stuck to it.

“HOW DID I FORGET THIS!!??” he screamed at the top of his lungs, luckily he was in an empty zone without people.... how lucky.

He started holding it closer, even praying for the object to work. He only wanted for the ID to be finished before anything bad happens... nothing happened, well, nothing noticeable happened.

After all of that, he decided to go train at home, he wasn’t feeling like going to any other place right now.

...

Sophie was on the floor with her legs and arms crossed, she was in deep thought as she felt she was very close to reaching the next step, except for a problem, her mana body still wasn’t conected to her mind, a problem she had from a long time because of her mind being in a state of chaos from all the stress and problems, making her stagnated.

It has been two years, almost three, since she awakened her mana, for a normal person reaching this point at that age would become a huge accomplishment... but not for her, she needed to become even stronger in less than two years, in less than her brother's 17th birthday.

Laying on the floor she covered her eyes with her right arm.

“... this sucks” was the only thing she could say from all of this, she was tired of appeasing her father by becoming stronger.

Uncovering her eyes she looked at her desk, there was a photo of two people, herself and her brother. His hair was browner than hers but they still had the same green eyes, she was holding him on top of her shoulders as they were smiling for the photo, it was from some time ago as the Sophie in the photo was 15 while the boy was only 10.

She knew her life was bad, she had suffered from mistakes she was unable to change such as her talent, she always wished to just stop existing and be away from this harsh life, but she couldn't abandon him, as he was the only thing that made her move forwards.

All the blood and tears wouldn’t be directed for her own strenght or future or even her own father, but for the safety of her little brother and for his safety she had to cut the problem from the root.

Geting up, she decided to go cool off by taking a cold shower even though the chill autumn air was already coming closer.

Meanwhile in a hidden room inside the mansion where Sophie resided, her ‘secret’ bodyguards were disscussing about some problems, one being about the one missing companion.

In the room there were only three men and two women, all of them wore the same pure black clothing, that being the only thing they had in common as there were only two normal looking guys and girls and a very big guy.

They kept talking about what happened.

Since the day they tried to follow Sophie to the training center, one of their companions went missing, they knew that she, the one missing, wasn’t the strongest of them all while fighting but she was the best on secrecy and escaping, making them even more worried on how she disappeared.

Even the tracking chip wasn’t working, as it only worked outside of rifts and her last location was inside one, the good thing about that was that they knew where they had to investigate.

Preparing the message for the higher ups, they continued with their day.

...

A day had passed, in a lonely shop an old man had finished his work, the man named now Masater had placed an order for an ID, something easy thanks to his power ‘information distorsion’ letting him change information from paper, cards, chips and a lot more, of course it wasn’t omnipotent because if he were to try and change something in the internet or somwhere like that he would be met with an incredibly huge resistence, thus why he only accepts changes on single objects, letting the harder jobs to his friend.

But for this job, he changed the information from the ID chip with the information given by Masater.

Like usual after finishing a job, he called his friend, made sure he was alone and warned him about the digital chip he was going to send him.

...

The central station, a large building at the center of city cero in wich all emergency warnings are made, the receptor of all emergency calls and the safest place of all the city, the bunker of city cero.

The people were walking from one side to another, everyone occupied with work, except one person, a 35 year old man. He had a very generic face, hair and clothing, perfect to pass under the radar of everyone.

He was standing alone inside the bathroom as he had recieved a call, his ‘friend’ had sent him another job to do, it was an easy one ‘insert the data, fix it inside the data base, get out’ pretty simple.... if you get the timing right.

He had to add it without getting discovered, even if they were to notice it after the installment, the data of the ID whould show all information of the civilian since birth without any problem, as if he had been always there.

‘I'm still impressed with how well he does his works’ he said to himself, thinking of the works he always sends.

After checking that he received the chip, he got moving, checking how many people were on their cubicles. He was on the fourth floor of the ten that existed, this floor was used as the emergency calls but it was close enough for him to sneak into the data base.

After reaching his cubicle he took out his laptop and started working on his normal job, but while doing so he activated his power stealthily ‘data transformation’ a very rare evolved power derived from the energy transformations, letting a part of his mind, soul and body transform into data and work inside electronics or as an energy.

After transforming bits of his body into data and sticking it with a small chunk of his soul and mind he had made a small copy of himself made of data while touching the screen of his phone, it wouldn’t survive more than a day alone so he would need to take it back before his shift ended to not face any repercussion, but first he had to finish his two jobs.

The mini copy dissipated from the inside of the screen, taking the data and going to the laptop through the cable that connected it with the phone.

After reaching it, he fully disappeared after reaching the network.

He couldn’t reach it directly because the central database was secluded, so it had to go from computer to computer while eliminating all traces it made, reaching finally the computer of a higher up.

Those computers were always conected to important places, investigating its availables connections he found multiple paths towards the lower floors, each path conected to another path downwards, finally reaching the lowest floor available.

Searching for a path to the basement, where the central database was, he found the computer wich was used to operate all cameras, opening his way.

Thanks to the cameras in the basement he was able to move with the connection made between the two of them, from the computer to the camera, reaching one of the two most dangerous parts of the adventure.

Because the camera wasn’t conected to anything else it had to manifest physically to move around, in that form he was completely weak and noticeable.

Sensing if there were any guards or anyone on the surroundings, it manifested, becoming a small blue energy ball.

After floating around and hiding from some guards making rounds, he finaly reached the desired place behind a large metalic door, squeezing inside the place in wich he was always sent to he saw it, a large metalic sphere hanging in the center of the massive room by multiple iron supports and cables, the core databease, the machine that also worked as a form of communication to the other cities in case of emergency.

The cables were conected to dozens of screens and computers, sneaking itself to one of them being unused and finally getting inside it and into the second dangerous part.

Being undetected while uploading the new data.

This is the part that takes the longest because he had to do it without being detected or making an anomaly, if even the smallest mistake happens it would seal all data inside, trapping him and making the only option to self destruct to not leave any evidence, wich would hurt like hell because he had a piece of his soul there.

But after a few hours, luckily, the work was done perfectly, now it was time to return.... by going the same way he came from....

...

Two day has passed since M.Aster had done his work, after the school hours passed Aster went and started training once again at home, but suddenly the small machine he left at the desk started flashing slightly, surprising Aster.

“.... that fast?”
