Chapter 1: The One Who’s Destiny Changed

Beep Beep Beep!

Oliver listened to the electronic beeping in his head, a reminder of his family’s omnipotence.

“Ugh, snooze damn it!” Oliver shouted into his pillow.

Notification: I'm sorry Oliver, but you are currently under parental lockdown due to missing assignments A and C, please complete and turn in the necessary work to regain privileges.

Sighing in defeat Oliver got up and dressed, or more truthfully, he stood there while clothes materialized out of thin air. A special function of the Mind Chip X, that Oliver currently has embedded into his brain. Created only recently, it was an improved futuristic Mind Chip in every way. There were nearly infinite things it could do, it could play music, calculate advanced problems, hold up a conversation, make jokes, it could give multiple viewpoints for indecisive people too. It could also scan an area and give a detailed map of the area, complete with little moving figures of anything living. But most importantly, it had one function that was truly magical: The Pocket Space. The Pocket Space was an ingenious invention by the top scientific minds of that era, an alternate dimension accessed through the chip’s abilities and capable of so much. However, it’s most astonishing function was its ability to hold life if a proper slice of the earth is installed within. Though to be fair those were only in the most advanced of advanced advanced chips.

(Author: that was fun to write lol)

When they first installed the Mind Chip X in Oliver, they didn’t tell him about the new Pocket Space function. So, needless to say, it was quite hilarious to watch him fall off his chair screaming when Alfred, the head of the research department, pranked him with a pile of skeletons dropping on him during dinner. Honestly, though, Oliver didn’t mind. Alfred was the only person who had ever truly cared about Oliver’s well being beyond the fact he was the heir. They had always been together, Alfred was more of a father than his actual father.

Alfred was a middle-aged badass, he looked like a bear. Huge, hairy and muscled, yet with comically oversized glasses, making him look like a grizzly that had seen the most shocking event imaginable.

Alfred's devotion to Oliver's care throughout the years had been unshakable. Even now, for instance, Alfred had given him a prototype advanced Pocket Space rather than the generic mass produced one they were planning on selling. Also, the Pocket Space wasn’t empty. The Silver Family Council had decided to allow him to fill it with necessary survival items, for unforeseen circumstances, and oh did Alfred do just that. He filled it with everything under the sun, he cleared out the tech testing grounds and storage chambers. He ransacked every department and storage container, he searched and raided from a tote in the corner to the forbidden faults. Leaving no stone unturned. Little did he know that some of the items he was grabbing were going to save Oliver’s life.

As Oliver was daydreaming about how nice it would be to sleep in, Alfred walked in.

“Hey sport, what are you up to?” Alfred asked with a proud smile. He never seemed to be disappointed no matter what Oliver did. A proud smile, like looking at your son saving the world, was always on his face.

Oliver rubbed the spot on the back of his neck where the chip was implanted as he replied. “Nothing much, just trying to find the will to get up.”

“I feel it, this morning I broke my desk in half with a punch because I was so tired of being tired, now it's gonna cost a ton to get it fixed.” Alfred sighed, his massive frame looking like the ocean waves as his huge shoulders went up then down.

Oliver thought for a moment. His newest desk was that huge thick titanium one he fancied, and he smashed it… holy shit the gene enhancers must be working or he’s a fucking demigod… Ignoring the implications of what Alfred just said, Oliver decided to ask a question that had been on his mind for a while. “Hey Alfred, when is the Trial for me to ascend as heir?... Is there a way out?...” He asked timidly.

Alfred looked surprised then sighed sadly. “It will be in 17 years when you are 35, and no there is no way out regrettably. The only possible way is death, and then there would be a huge battle royale to choose the next heir. Though we both know who would win…” Alfred looked irritated as he remembered that piece of trash with a damn good sword arm and sixth sense.

Oliver also had a scowl on his face remembering that particular cousin of his. Adrian Adams, A skilled weapons specialist who always fought with Oliver over succession rights. Adrian was older, however, was not of true Silver family lineage and therefore couldn’t directly take the Heir position

Alfred noticing the dark atmosphere decided to suggest a walk to clear their heads before heading to school, which Oliver accepted. Little did they know it would be the last time they saw each other for many years.

After the walk, Oliver got into the limo parked outside his house and told the driver to head for his school. Sitting in the limo, Oliver had his Mind Chip play some music as he looked out the window and thought about meeting his classmates.

“I’m so sorry…” A voice suddenly spoke in his head, much to Oliver’s alarm

Suddenly, as if by magic, the limo was flipped over and Oliver hit his head on the ceiling, blacking out.
