Chapter 0. Prologue

--- In the past, on a different world ---

"Hold the walls! You! Get to the gates now and seal them up even tighter!" A king shouts to his own people while putting his armor on.

The city he is protecting has 2 walls, one protecting it from the outside and one protecting from a hole that the city is surrounding.

"I did not expect an enemy to attack us when the demons decided to crawl out of their hole as well... This is bad..." The king mutters to himself, while getting up after grabbing his helmet, his sword and his shield.

The King walks, in a fast pace, towards the walls protecting from the outside.

"My King!" A soldier notices him and immediatly bows and the rest follow soon after.

The enemy sees the King, the only thing making him different from his soldiers is the fact that a crown has been melted into his helmet, otherwise he looks completely like a regular knight.

"You know well not to call me as a King anymore. Not in a state of war. I am of equal status right now." The King says and grabs the soldier's shoulder and lifts him up.

The others get up as well.

"There is no time. Keep an eye on our enemy and be vigilant at all times. That is what I request of you." The King says and then looks at the massive enemy army on a hill about 1 and a half kilometers away.

The king then looks behind him, towards the hole.

Near the edge of the hole, there is a massive castle being held up by numerous pillars.

The lights in the castle are being shut off one after another, from the top floor to the bottom.

"It seems they have escaped... Good. Now I can fight with no worries." The King smiles.

--- About three days later ---

"Capture the ones still surviving! Send out the notice that the enemy has been defeated!" A soldier shouts.

The King looks at the enemy soldiers running into his city and knows that all they will find there is demons and empty houses.

He looks down at his chest, which has been impaled by three spears.

Both his knees have arrows in them, his left arm chopped of and his right arm crushed by a mace.

His head completely fine, as the enemy didn't aim for it.

He looks around the battlefield, smiling.

"Finally... Somebody else can take my mantle... I entrust the protection of this world onto you, Oh King who defeated me." The Defeated King looks at the Enemy King, who is right next to him.

"I shall protect this World. I did not know of the duty you had until I saw it this battle. But you knew that this battle was inevitable but you still stayed. You were a man of great honor, just as the legends of your deeds say." The enemy king smiles and grabs the Defeated King's own sword and decapitates him.

The Defeated King's soul leaves the world, going to another World, inside an infant that was supposed to be dead.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

The Kings Soul containing one wish that the infant would fulfill: "Be so strong that even Death fears you."

--- Still in the past but much closer to the present, another world from the one with the Defeated King ---

"Are you sure about this Archivald?" A woman asks.

The man silently nods.

"Well... I'll be expecting you to fulfill our promise once you wake up. I'll be long gone though... I hope my successors still remember that they have to respect you when you awake..." The woman says and looks at the man called Archivald.

The woman is tall, with yellow hair and eyes that are colored like fire. Surrounding her body is a exquisite dress, colored black and yellow, reaching to the ground.

The man is even taller, roughly two and a half meters tall. His hair colored a beautiful shade of silver with lines of a color similar to pure gold imbedded in the silver.

His body wearing only a simple robe that is covering a body that, when you first look at it, seems untrained but has actually been under intensive training for centuries.

In his hand, a simple mask that used to cover his face that seemed to be crafted by the Goddess of Beauty herself.

"I shall be heading off to my sleep then. I wish you a good life, Anastasia. Make sure my Empire doesn't destroy the world but beautifully falls apart, giving new hope to the people and new ways for expanding.

I also trust you with overseeing my sleep, Anastasia. I know you can do this for you have shown how capable you are. Even without my help, you would've changed the world." Archivald says to the woman, called Anastasia, showing that he completely trusts her.

"I know. Also, your clothes and your favorite weapons have been put into your room as well. Just so you have something familiar once you wake up." Anastasia smiles as Archivald walks into the bedroom and uses magic to close the doors behind him.

Soon, a great magic circle appears underneath the building which only contains one room, sealing Archivald inside it and making sure Archivald's magic does not leak outside while he sleeps.

Anastasia suddenly starts crying whilst looking around.

The room, which is of incredibly simple design aka just a regular box with some minor decorations which hint to who is sleeping inside, is carved into a singular mountain surrounded by vast plains.

A seemingly endless river flows across the plains, around the mountain and then goes on.

Hours pass as Anastasia cries but finally gathers herself.

"No. I mustn't cry. Archivald told me what needs to be done.. So I must do it. But once it is done... I shall return. I shall live next to Archivald and die next to him. And so shall all my children and theirs... Until Archivald awakes once more." She tells herself and runs off at a speed that breaks the sound.

--- Present Day, The Same World ---

The door, which had not even shown signs of change for a thousand years, opens.
