Jeanie
After our narrow escape I sit in the back of the car and anxiously look through my bag. Do we have anything to help with Jo's ankle? I don't know if the internet is still working either. I pull out my phone and check my bars. Okay, great. I still have internet. I search up how to bandage a broken ankle. A 6 minute video comes up but I'm not wasting time. I look at the images and try to get a general idea of what I should do.
Since we have no casts I guess we should look for 2 wood pieces to put on each side and wrap it with something tight. I'm not really sure where to put the wood though. Some pictures show it on the back while some show it on both sides. This was so confusing. I'll just choose when we find some wood.
"Guy's we need to find some supplies to make a splint. We need tape and wood and maybe something soft?" I address. Lacey nods and starts to climb out of the car.
"Wait! What are you going to get?" Maggie asks. Lacey thinks for a moment.
"I can probably find some tape, you find some wood. We can use one of our sweatshirts to cushion it." I nod and start to get out of the car.
Outside the street looks like an entirely different place. It looks like world war 3 just hit. Building are smashed and knocked over, cars are crushed and flattened. The rood has a giant indent in it in the shape of a foot. The world was eerily silent too. Without noise pollution everything seemed lonelier.
I walk further down the street carefully searching for some wood. I head over to the destroyed shops and look through the ruble. I come across a thin piece of metal that looks like it came from a chair. This should work just fine. I deeper into the store to try and find more chair pieces. I don't find anything and head back.
Jo and Cece are sitting on the car roof, talking. The day has warmed up and a cool breeze teases with their hair.
"Hey I think I found something that could help!" I hold up the metal stick and climb onto the car. I pull Jo's ankle towards me and look at it. It's inflamed and red. I ignore that for now and press the stick against her leg. It's seems to fit so I experiment moving it to different places. After I'm down I climb on top of the car with them and wait for Lacey and Maggie.

After a few minutes Lacey comes sprinting down the road. "I found some sticks!" She waves them above her head and leaps onto the car. Who gave her sugar? I take the sticks from her and compare them to mine. They're about the same size, so I'm almost positive it'll work. Lacey sits on the hood of the car to try and regain her breath. I take the water from my bag and give it to her.
"Don't drink too much. We don't know much water is still drinkable." She nods and takes a tiny sip. I take it back from her and put it in the bag. She sits down and starts to rummage through her pockets and pulls out our friendship bracelets.
"Guess what?! I brought our friendship bracelets so we can always find each other! We can start out own clan like the amazons! It'll be so much fun! Except those monsters are like really big. I don't know if we can fight them? We don't even have any weapons. Also where did everyone else go. It's just us. Were we asleep longer than we thought? Omg what if we been asleep for 5 years and all of humanity is dead and we're the last survivors who have to build up society again!" Lacey starts rambling on about conspiracy theories until Jo speaks up.
"If we're the only survivors then we can't rebuild society because we can't get pregnant. We'd be the last of out kind and slowly die off into extinction." Jo frowns. I agree that was kinda dark. We don't not to be thinking about this right now.
"Guy's look it's Maggie. Hiiiiiii!!!!" Lacey screams. Maggie come jogging up to the car with a roll of duck tape
"I ran... all the way to Home... Depot to get this... and these... sticks. This better work." She flops down into the backseat of the car and closes her eyes. I clime down and grab them from her grab the supplies. Now to figure out how to bandage this.
I take off my sweat shirt and wrap it around Jo's ankle, tying a knot in it. Then I take the two sticks and squeeze the onto the sides. I break a stick in half and put it on her heel for support. I get Cece to hold it and I wrap it with duck tape. I make sure that the tape wraps around her heel so it wont come off. I hop this works. I stand up and wipe my brow. Was it suddenly getting hotter. Maggie seems to have noticed it too.
"Guy's I think we need to find camp because we can't stay here forever. Also did anyone notice it's getting hotter?" I take my pullover and tie it around my waist. Was this a heatwave? We shouldn't stay out here any longer then we have too.
"Okay, I think we should start moving. It's not supposed to be this hot." I put my arm around Jo and help her stand up.
"How does it feel? Can you walk?" Jo tenderly put her foot down and puts a little weight on it.
"I don't think I can walk properly. I might need a crutch of something."
"Okay we can find a stick for you later. We need to get moving." I start to walk towards one of the shops with Jo when a shadow passes over head in a circle.
