Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Year 20XX, in a city filled with towering buildings that pierced towards the skies, buildings even taller than the Burj Khalifa, is where all adventure begins.

From above, the first thing that people would notice would be the humongous and towering wall stretching over the horizon!

There are soldiers walking along the wall with menacing-looking weapons mounted on top of it.

On the other side of the wall lies a vast outstretch of forest of towering trees. Occasionally, the sound of roars can be heard from somewhere in the distance, alongside the sound of explosions and the rumble of the earth.

“Huh? Wha-aaaaaaeeeeelp!”

A young man with sunglasses on was leisurely sunbathing beside a pool when a small crack in space a couple of meters behind him suddenly appeared and slowly grew by the second, and while that was happening, the wind started picking up around him as the plants started swaying, the ground started kicking up dust and the water on the pool started to ripple, and the anomaly was getting stronger by the second.

He didn’t immediately notice the anomaly happening behind him, and by the time he did, it was already too late as the poor young man was immediately sucked towards the unknown, alongside his chair!

Well at least, he wasn’t alone.

“I made some cookies dear!”

A beautiful black-haired woman sauntered past the back door of the house with a bowl of cookies in her hands before coming to an immediate halt.

Huh, that was weird. Why do I feel like I’m suddenly forgetting something? Tilting her head with an obvious confusion on her face, the woman immediately turned around and walked back inside the house while feeling like she had lost something dear in her heart.

And why am I holding a bowl of cookies? Weird.

“Ahhhhhhh!”

A young man sat up screaming with horror in his eyes.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

“Ahhhhhhhh!”

Raggedly breathing, the young man quickly looked around him after a couple of seconds of trying to get his bearings, but another scream escaped from his lips, and it was far worse than the previous one.

The young man woke up in the middle of a forest, in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by dead bodies piled on top of each other. Judging from the horrified and unresigned expressions on their faces, it was clear that they didn’t go down peacefully.

“No, no, no, no, no..”

The young man immediately scrambled to get up and made a run for it! While tripping over the bodies in his panic multiple times, he kept repeating the word “no” over and over again while trying to escape from the hell that he arrived to.

Just what the hell is happening?

Almost three hours had since passed after he had finally escaped from that hell.

In between that time, the young man kept walking and walking along the dark, unknown forest, his steps were like a zombie with no destination in mind, and it was only until he stumbled upon a rickety shack in the middle of this that a semblance of sanity finally returned to his eyes.

I wish this was all but a dream, and that I’m gonna wake up after this.

Pushing the rickety door open, the young man stumbled inside, and like it was already engraved in his body, he walked towards a corner and just plumped himself right in towards a bed made of hay, and even calling it a bed isn’t doing the word any justice since its just hay piled on top of each other.

The young man for all his care, didn't even budge when the smell of mold quickly assaulted his nose. He just quietly closed his eyes and hoped that everything was but just a nightmarish dream that he’d eventually wake up from.

‘Wild Blueberries - Perennial Plant. Wild Blueberries typically grow in humid, northern climates that have winter chills, mild summers, and acidic soils. A common ingredient in potion making and decoctions. Slightly sates hunger and thirst when consumed.’

Haa, I still can’t used to this.

Just a few meters from the rickety shack, a young man is currently crouched down before a cluster of wild blueberry plants, busy plucking their fruits and placing them on a large leaf he had plucked from somewhere.

Oddly enough, every time he focused on something like a fruit, a rock, or an animal. A slew of messages would appear before his eyes in the image of a holographic screen. Containing detailed information on the thing his attention is fixed to.

It had already been three days since this unfortunate young man had woken up in the middle of this forest, in an unknown location.

On his first day of waking up from his sleep, the realization that what happened to him and the scenes he saw that night were real had slowly sunk in when he saw the familiar and at the same time unfamiliar surroundings he had woken up to.

Just thinking that he wouldn’t be able to get back home immediately made him incredibly depressed. He knows, that even in his panic that night, he had still managed to register the clothing that the dead bodies wore. Clothing that only someone living in the Middle Ages would wear.

He knows that he’s no longer on Earth, and even if that wasn’t the case and that he had just gotten thrown back in time after he had gotten sucked into that space crack, the possibility of going back is nigh impossible at this point. He didn’t even do anything after waking up, but the energy he had just recovered after night’s sleep was already drained. So he just stared into space for hours until his stomach started screaming in hunger!

On his second day, he decided to just accept his current situation as there was nothing he could do even if he screamed, cursed, or grumbled, and as he had said before, it is what it is.

And this thing, it really makes you question if this is still reality or just a virtual world I ended up to.

With all the countless virtual games he had played before, this holographic screen is nothing new for him. He had seen it and used it countless times.

Character Sheet, the young man thought, and another screen detailing his current information appeared.
