Chapter 14
This Means War
I had to catch my breath for a second. At least Farrow was here, meaning he didn’t have to escape any danger here. I gave him a rundown of the recent events.
“So that means we’ve started the war between Xenos and Ancients.” Farrow said.
“I guess, I don’t know what that means. Will he call his family in to recuperate immediately, or will they take ages as it has been for the last ten thousand years?”
“I don’t know. All I do know is that we have to get off this island. I was thinking about going in there and getting some treasure myself, but with Dakur in there, I don’t think he’ll appreciate that very much.”
We took off. Farrow dropped me into the sea as he said I smell like sewer. Plus, him nor I would want to travel for days on end while he carries me. So I said my farewells and let him return as I slid back down into the ocean and made my way to the island of the Bovine.
I met the chief and had given my gratitude for the present he had given me. He was right, I do have a knack for finding the purpose of mysterious objects.
I went back to the underwater palace of the Poseidon. He greeted me and looked like he was crying, but underwater you don’t cry. He hugged me and had me debrief him on the whole saga. He sighed as I told him, blow by blow.
If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
But the ending made him worry. “I think you’ve started a war, Dawn.”
“What does that mean? He’ll devour the planet?”
“He may. There seems to have been good in what Dacoit was doing. Enslaving the Ancient King and taking compensation for his deeds from the tribes of Xenobia.”
I wanted to say that if I could start it I could end it. But I don’t know how many there are or how strong they are. If they come back after dying. Where are they and what will they be like when such a bonded force?
I’ve killed two already, but if it was luck, or skill, my fate seems to running to an end. I only hope it ends when it should, not prematurely, I have more myself relying on me.
I know more about them after I met with Ares last. Memories come and go, but nothing that explains the rising of the Ancients.
I struggle to say anything to Poseidon, ask more questions of what I’ve done. Will the Ancients really be the end all of our lives? Poseidon was helpful, encouraging in my travels yet doubtful that I would make it.
“There must be a way to stop it. If only you had taken the piece and left. But it’s in your nature, Dawn. A Feline, the Huntress, killing and taking out the enemies one by one.”
“I know. I could have killed Dakur as well. My sympathy for such a ragged, skin and bones dog kept me from it. There was no way to get out of that prison.”
“I know Dawn, I am not blaming you. You did what you could, what you should have.” He sat down and steepled his hands to his chin. “Go back home and tell your elders, they will have a plan. When you’re ready, we will by your side, ready to fight.”
I spoke to him with my eyes, dedication.
Picking up my bag, now weighing a ton, I left and hurriedly made my way back to my temple on important matters.
