From the fifth district, where the Wayle Family Manor was located, to the seventh district, which is in the furthest corner of the sixth district, Wesley needed to walk a distance of around four miles. This distance only needed less than an hour to be traversed if Wesley took the a straight route and walked in a normal pace.
However, it took Wesley almost two and half hours before he reached his Manor. The reason for this is very simple, Wesley did not take a direct route to his destination, and avoided any well lit or active streets.
Some people might consider this paranoia, but Wesley was not off that same mind. From what he could tell from his conversation with Michael, the entire city is buzzing with news about an assassin. If someone saw the dark clothed Wesley walking around, and then later heard news of the Wayle Family head being assassinated, then all that is needed is to connect the dots.
Wesley wanted the assassination of the Wayle Family head to be seen as retaliation by the Ranes family. If rumor spread that it was done by the same assassin, then he would be surprised if the four families didn’t realized there was a third party involved.
Wesley wanted to avoid this scenario at all costs, so he chose prudence over convenience. If the four families started looking for possible culprits outside of themselves, then it wouldn’t be long before they realize it was the Black Family, after all, they are the only new variable in the City.
Soon enough, Wesley reached the border between the sixth and seventh districts. It was already past midnight, so the seventh district was under curfew, meaning that Wesley could not walk around carelessly.
Fortunately, the seventh district was really small compared to the other district, and the distance between his current position was almost half a mile. It took Wesley two Dark Warps to arrive in the middle of his study.
As soon as Wesley appeared in his study, he slowly walked towards the nearest seat and slumped on it lifelessly. Ensuring that he was not seen as left the crime scene and headed home took a lot of focus and mental power; coupled with the fact that he used three Dark Warps, each taking a fourth of his mana, it was no surprise Wesley was exhausted.
As Wesley sat on the seat, a blank look was on his face as he stared at the roof of the study. Wesley knew he looked dumb as he just sat there, but he was too exhausted to care.
As he sat there, staring at the roof, Wesley remembered his Master. When Rale first showed him his Dark Warp, he took Wesley and took him almost five miles away. At that time, Wesley thought that Dark Warp was a simple spell and that he should be able to do it as well.
However, Wesley's range when using Dark Warp is barely one thousand five hundred feet. He that he was not even close to his master's level. This realization made Wesley chuckle slightly as a small smile surfaced on his face.
Rale the Keeper. Wesley knew that his master was powerful, however, he was simply too close to him to truly know how terrifying he was. As far as Wesley was concerned, Rale is simply an accomplished, old mage who happens to be his master, but to other mages, he is an extremely terrifying existence.
While thinking of this, Wesley suddenly felt a small fluctuation of mana in a corner of the study. Wesley immediately turned his head and stared at the corner with the blank expression still present on his face.
Wesley felt the mana in that area tremble slightly, and then get replaced by a earth elements. Immediately after, an earthen pillar that was six feet tall materialized. Wesley stared at this pillar curiously as if he was about to understand something, only he had no idea what.
As Wesley was staring at the pillar of earth, the pillar started shrinking at an alarming rate leaving behind the figure of a broad shouldered Neal. Neal turned his head a few times and then he looked at Wesley with surprise on his face.
"Wesley? Didn't you leave for the Wayle Family Manor earlier? Why are you still here?"
Wesley and Neal's initial plan was for Wesley to observe the Wayle residence for a while to try and find a way in. Neither of them expected that the Wayle Family would walk to Wesley's location on his own. This caused Wesley to return faster than they initially estimated.
While Neal was looking at Wesley with astonishment, Wesley was staring at something with a thoughtful gaze as he squinted his eyes. The moment Wesley noticed the mana fluctuations caused by Neal's spell, he felt that there was something that he was seeing. Only he couldn’t put his finger on it, he felt like he was on the precipice of something, but couldn’t take that one last step.
Neal who was looking at Wesley couldn’t help but feel worried. Wesley seemed exhausted for some reason and looked in some sort of daze. Neal once again spoke, only he almost roared this time:
"Wesley. What is the matter?"
Wesley who was feeling frustrated was suddenly brought out of his daze by Neal's voice. His eyes focused as he stared at Neal with surprise, as if he forgot he was there completely. Wesley knew that whatever it was he felt was gone, so he just smiled at Neal and spoke:
"Oh, Neal. I was coming to see you when I have rested for a while. Why are you here."
Neal hesitated at Wesley's question and then spoke again:
"I just received a report that was interesting. I came here on impulse hoping that you might be here, only I didn’t expect you to actually be here."
"Haha. I wasn’t expecting to return so fast either. Only, my luck was not bad tonight. What was this report you received."
Neal looked at Wesley curiously. His smiling face and laughing seemed somewhat forced on his pale complexion and tired eyes.
"I just received a report saying that the three remaining family heads met in the office of management a few hours ago. This would have been a nice opportunity to take out the Kader Family head. Alas, it is too late now."
Hearing Neal's words, Wesley couldn’t help but to immediately let out a self deprecating laugh:
"Haha."
Wesley's immediate laugh at his words caused Neal to be further astonished at Wesley's odd behavior. He looked at Wesley curiously and spoke again:
"What is so funny."
"It's just that I was thinking my luck was impressive tonight. But it seems it was only better than average. Haha."
"What do you mean."
"While I was observing the Wayle Family Manor, I found the Wayle Family head walking outside. After I killed him, I thought that my luck was extremely good. However, you just told me that the Kader Family head was within reach. Tell me, isn't that worthy of a laugh."
Neal's eyes immediately lit up as Wesley spoke. It was indeed unfortunate that they missed the chance to kill the Kader Family head, but the Wayle Family head was not small causing his mood to lighten and even improve slightly. As if seeing the irony that made Wesley laugh, Neal also started to laugh as he spoke:
"Haha. It is indeed worthy of a good laugh."
"Yes I thought so too. Haha."
After laughing for a few moments, Neal suddenly spoke again:
"Where you injured. You don't look too good."
Wesley's pale and drained countenance as well as how he was slouched on the seat he was sitting on made Neal slightly worried. Wesley on the other hand just shook his head and spoke:
"No. I am just overspent. A few hours of rest and I'll be fine."
"I see. That’s good then. So what now?"
"Now. Now we let things simmer down a little. The entire city believes that there is a vicious assassin on the loose, and soon, things will get even more hectic."
"That is the best course of action. But what will you do if the new Family heads are told about the Black Family history before you can kill the remaining two."
Wesley was quiet for a moment as he thought, and then he spoke again:
"I don't know. I hope that the death of two heads is enough to distract them from you. In the meantime, you should get to know these new family heads."
"I know. I was planning on visiting the Ranes family head tomorrow to pay my respects to his late father."
"Haha. Then it is settled. I'll be getting some rest then."
Wesley spoke as he got off the seat tiredly and headed towards the exit of the study. Neal only stared at Wesley as he walked away and spoke:
"I understand."
.........................................................................................................................................
Next morning. A red clothed Wesley, with two dark swords hanging from his left hip, was walking towards the academy. It wasn’t too early in the morning, so the streets were somewhat crowded, however, Wesley's flamboyantly colored uniform was extremely eye catching causing a lot of people to stare at him with a myriad of expressions on their faces.
Wesley ignored all those gazes and walked towards his destination with an unworried expression on his face. Wesley was already used to the gazes of surprise from the people as they realized he was from the academy.
As Wesley was walking towards the academy, numerous different thoughts were floating around his head. Wesley was trying to recall what that thing he felt last night was. He felt like it was something important, like something you know or should know, but you can't put your finger on it.
Even as he tried sleeping last night, he could barely do so because of the thing that was eluding him. If he was not so tired last night, causing him to fall asleep involuntarily, he probably would've spent the whole night thinking.
While Wesley was surrounded by his thoughts, he already reached the academy's gate. Shaking his head at whatever it is he was just thinking about, Wesley walked into the academy.

Walking into the academy, Wesley didn’t head to the main building, rather he circumvented it to go to the swordsmanship class, which was located outside the academy. The simple fact that the swordsmanship class was located outside the main building, showed just what position swordsmanship held in this academy.
Wesley, however, couldn’t care less about the position of swordsmanship in this world or this academy. He was a mage by nature, and although he felt some familiarity with swordsmanship, it was not enough to cause him worry in situations like this.
As Wesley was heading to the swordsmanship class, he noticed that there were numerous blue robed students walking past in hurried paces. Wesley looked at these first years with a hint of amusement as they scampered around.
At least a dozen blue robed students walked briskly past him, causing Wesley to wonder what they were running from. As Wesley was wondering that, he focused on a boy and girl who were among the rushing students.
The girl was pouted in annoyance and spoke to the boy:
"Who does he think he is. Telling us to scram like he owns the courtyard."
The boy clearly didn’t want to talk about this as a frown formed on his face. He then said with a dejected voice:
"I don't he is obnoxious. But, with so many second year lackeys, he must have some background."
The girl immediately turned her head to the boy and looked at him hatefully causing her to further pout as she spoke:
"Who here doesn’t have background. If anything, he is more trashy than others. Failing to advance a year...hmph"
Hearing the words obnoxious, second year lackeys, and failed to advance a year, Wesley's eyes lit up as a picture of certain blue haired junior of his surfaced in his mind. A smile appeared on his face as Wesley who was feeling somewhat down today, suddenly saw an opportunity to be entertained.
Wesley immediately adjusted his course and headed towards the courtyard. Wesley only had a few minutes before class started, but he really wanted to have some fun with his favorite junior.
Wesley reached the courtyard soon enough. As soon as he reached there, he noticed that under the same three that he was reading under the other day, a group of five red robed students were standing there. Beyond the red robed a blue robed student there.
Wesley was curious as to what they were doing so he nonchalantly walked towards them. The students chased away all the first years from the courtyard so they weren't expecting anyone to come towards, enabling Wesley to walk towards without their notice.
The moment Wesley was within hearing range of the students, he heard an extremely annoyed and prideful voice sound from behind the blue robed student.
"Roman. You are blocking my path. I have no time to waste on your kind. Move."
The voice was that of a girl, but if one only went by the amount of pride and disdain present in it, they would believe it belonged to a king. Hearing this voice, Wesley was rather surprised, he tilted his head slightly to look past the blue robed student.
Wesley immediately noticed a red robed girl standing in front of the blue robed Roman while staring dagger at him. The girl had long silver hair that reached all the way to her back and her eyes were a similar silver color. If not for the fact that her hair was somewhat disheveled, and the her eyes somewhat bloodshot, she would've been extremely cute.
"Rin. You should be nicer to me. We are, after all destined to be together."
Hearing this, Wesley could almost spit out blood. If that was not a classic line to be said by a love stricken noble boy, then there was no such line. Wesley was so amused that he was about to laugh out loud, but he still controlled his laughter so that he could hear more of this love story.
As if making Wesley's wish come true, the girl's voice resounded once again:
"Destined? You and I are destined the same way a frog is destined for a swan. Stop being deluded and know your place."
"You are pushing..."
However, before Roman could even finish his rebuttal, an extremely hearty laugh came from behind him. Roman immediately thought that one of his lackeys was laughing at him so he turned around and looked at them menacingly, only to find they were also looking behind them.
Roman immediately realized that someone else was mocking him so he looked past his lackeys only to see a red robed, blue haired students with two swords laughing as he was bent over holding his stomach.
The moment Roman noticed this person, his face turned extremely ugly and his eyes started radiating with a fierce light that seemed to be filed with hate and malice. He immediately barked at Wesley:
"Wesley. This doesn’t concern you. Begone."
Roman hated Wesley as much as person can hate another, but he knew that Wesley was a vicious bastard that was neither kind nor considerate. He was extremely unwilling to talk to such a person in front of the girl he liked.
Wesley just raised his head and looked at the fuming Roman while still laughing. Wesley was laughing so much that there were hints of tears coming from his eyes. Wesley looked at Roman, and then his laughing got even louder causing Roman to become even more infuriated, he spoke again, his voice even becoming louder.
"What is so funny."
Wesley just continued laughing without listening to Roman's roars. After almost half a minute of incessant laughing Wesley once again raised his head and looked at Roman then spoke:
"Little Junior. I thought your magic skills were pitiful. However, compared to your skills with girls, I dare say your magic skills are almost god-like. Haha."
"Wesley. I said this doesn’t concern you."
"Little junior. I have been thinking, You lack so many skills that it is almost surprising you figured out how to breathe. However, I believe that being this skill-less is a skill on itself. Don’t you think so, Haha."
Hearing Wesley's words, Roman could feel his heart clench and his blood congeal. If hate could be manifested physically, Roman was feeling it. He really hated this Wesley and regretted the day he met him. Roman just clenched his jaws and spoke:
"We're leaving. I will remember this Wesley."
Roman immediately walked past his lackeys with haste. He didn’t want to be near this Wesley anymore, lest he loses even more face in front of the girl he likes. Also, fighting Wesley was not an option, since none of his lackeys were confident in being his opponent.
Seeing the leaving Roman, Wesley was not willing to let him leave as he spoke again:
"Don’t go Little Junior. Maybe if you try again, you'll succeed. Haha."
Roman just ignored Wesley's words as he hurried along without even looking back. He truly wanted to get away from Wesley and his mockery. It would probably be a while before he could show his face in front of that girl.
Wesley just continued his laughing. He completely forgot about his earlier thoughts as he continued recalling the girl's words as she spoke to Roman. Wesley, immediately walked away while laughing only to hear a voice come from behind him.
"You. I didn’t ask for your help, so you'll get no thanks from me."
The amount of pride in this girl's voice seemed boundless. Wesley just waved his hand carelessly as he continued walking while laughing. The girl's prideful voice resounded once again:
"You dare walk away from me while I am speaking. Do you know who I am."
Wesley who was walking suddenly paused. He turned his head to look at the girl who was standing there with her hands crossed and her chin raised as if she was looking down on a subject. He couldn’t help but sigh at how he always seems to attract people like her.
Wesley spoke with teary eyes while still laughing:
"Haha. No I don't know who you are and I really don't care. Haha.."
Wesley was rather annoyed by this girl's haughtiness, but his annoyance was less than his amusement. As he tried being firm with her, he couldn’t help but recall her words causing him to laugh as he spoke.
Wesley knew that for someone to be this haughty and proud, they must be someone with background. However, considering his own background and the fact that titles were worthless in the academy, Wesley was not worried about who she is in the slightest.
Wesley immediately turned around and continued his walking without even glancing at the silver haired girl.
As Wesley walked away from her, the silver haired girl stared at his back with a complicated look on her face. As a second year student, she knew who this Wesley was superficially, but his true character was a mystery to most students, causing many of them to have high expectation of him in their minds.
As she looked at this still laughing Wesley, she felt like laughing too, but she also felt some anger at how casually disrespectful towards her he was. These opposite emotions caused her to have a complicated look between laughter and anger to alternate on her face.
Wesley, however, didn’t see any of this as he simply continued with his walking.
