Who are we?

Perspective from a dying hero:

Who are we exactly? We are grown in glass, then grow up in glass, then die in glass. I have always had this weird feeling that our captures that use us, are nothing more than frightened of us. They are scared, scared yet they don’t show it as they beat us to death day in and day out.

The world has changed a lot since the genetic wars. Those that were enhanced were once thought as heroes, heroes that could change the world for the better, that’s what the world thought at least. Then came the idea that we could genetically enhance anyone and everyone. Although a part of the world welcomed that idea, the rest did not. They thought of us as monsters with unimaginable power, even though we never went beyond what was theoretically possible.

The second genetic war began, also known as the ‘war against heroes’. This was ended in the non-genetically enhanced winning. The result was an intense hatred from those that are, well…normal. We ‘heroes’ were counted as cattle from then onwards. The name ‘hero’ became an insult and we were discriminated against, becoming slaves to those who hated us.

After a thousand years we are still enslaved and sold, though we are more valuable now. Governments use us for their wars, pitting us against each other to see who will win an argument, agreement, or even a marriage proposals. Royals, or those that can afford us, take advantage of us and use us for their own personal gain. This is our life as ‘heroes’, the once heralded as victors over humanity’s limits.

Although this is what we know to be true, this is merely part of the story. The rest has been lost, burned, or even hidden from sight. Remember this well, this is…who we are.
