The Fujoshi Who Was Reborn As A Male Siren
Chapter 2 I’m A What Now!?

Chapter 2 I’m A What Now!?

Hey there haven’t seen ya in a while! It’s been about 3 and a half months since I checked in. I found out some new things whilst pretending to be a normal baby. Well if your wondering I tried the whole status window thing, unfortunately that didn’t work. Sigh. I guess I can’t have all it all huh?

Also, turns out while I was in that egg I had grown to about the state of a 5 or 5 1/2 month old baby. It’s apparently normal for my species but I noticed something a bit after I was born. I seem to have an abnormal learning rate even for a baby. My theory is that to compensate for all the time spent in the egg I am able to absorb more information as a baby.

Thanks to that I have learned the basics of three languages so far though I still have trouble from the harder words. So finally after being able to listen in on conversations and my siblings lessons, which my mother taught so I naturally tagged along, I learned a lot!

First off this world is called Esteria and it seems to be bigger than earth but I’m not exactly sure by how much. The technology level is around the medieval ages however they make their living better with the use of magic. Hence why their technology level doesn’t rise. Their culture and morals are also around the same level as here. I need to be careful that I don’t upset the world balance or something by blurting out some information that while might’ve been common in my world but is completely foreign here.

Next, there is five known continents here. The Northern continent, Entrante, home of the Elves, Fey, Dwarves, and various other species. The Northeastern continent, Ferríar, home of (battle junkies) various beast race. The Central continent, Hestia, home of the humans with a variety of other races who immigrate there. The Southern continent, Tilac, home to a variety of demons and monsters. And finally the unexplored Southwestern continent with most of it unknown and filled to the brim with dangerous magical beings and monsters, our home, the continent, Didanda.

We live in a Siren community on the southernmost coast of Didanda though its filled with other races as well. As it turns out I’m not part of some Beastman tribe like I had originally assumed. My mother is apparently a Siren and so am I. A siren is a magical being unlike the other races. Meaning we as magical beings can innately understand and use our own racial magic without any chants and instinctively know the size of our mana pools.

Sirens are split into two variants just like in the myths of my old world. Basically the variant with feathers or the variant with fins. I’m the variant of siren with feathers obviously and we’re called Ar’shitaia or “Feathered Ones” in the siren language. The finned variants are called Mir’shitaia or “Scaled Ones”.

I also learned that they are an almost exclusively female race so they take mates from other races. If the child is born male its the fathers race and if the child is female then it has an 95% chance of being a siren and a 10% chance of being the fathers race. So the girls are almost always sirens. (This was not the case though with my older sister.)

However this seems to not always be true. You see there is a 2% chance of a male being born as a siren. But their so rare that its practically an unheard of event that happens maybe once every couple hundred years or so. Even if they are born they are discriminated against a lot by the female exclusive siren race. They are often thought of as not part of their race, unnatural, a disaster, calamity, bad omen, the complaint list seems to go on. And why am I telling you this you wonder?

Well, turns out in this life I had been reborn as a…

Yep, you guessed it…

A male siren.

When I found put that I had been reborn as a male siren and will most likely be discriminated against I was in such shock that I was stuck in a daze for three days straight. Well, at least I knew why my parents had looked at me strangely at my birth? Hatching? Still though it was quite a shock when I was told that I was male and would have a whole new appendage when I would get my human form.

Yes, sirens have their humanoid-bird/fin form and their human form. Obviously they can’t mate with a different species when they have giants wings or fins and their whole bottom half from the hip downward is that of a bird or a fish. Hence why I didn’t know I was male until I heard the conversation of my mother discussing it with my Lion Beastman father in how she’s worried how the siren community that they live in will treat me.

I wasn’t the only one who was listening in on this conversation because my energetic, hot-headed nee-chan, Ruria, bursted in with my more calm nii-san, Aether. She ran up to mother who was holding me in her arms with my brother trailing behind. They both had a slightly worried look. She then asked my mother if other people will really bully me. My poor parents were both flustered and obviously didn’t know what to say.

Because obviously there will be some who won’t like my presence, some might even try to kill me is what I’d gleamed from the conversation. Apparently there had been siren tribes who had made it a tradition to kill any male siren should they be birthed and there is no telling if there is any siren in the community who doesn’t share that sentiment.

Dangerous, too dangerous.

I need to grow up quickly and learn how to defend myself.

While I had been fretting about this it seemed that my brother and sister had reached some art of agreement. They both nodded and looked towards my parents with determined eyes.

“Then we’ll protect Atiya-chan!” Ruria proclaimed as she puffed her chest out.

Awww, she’s so cute. Me and my parents both smile at this.

“Thats right. Anyone who dares to harm to harm Atiya-chan will not be forgiven.” Aether said calmly with narrowed eyes.

O-oi n-nii-san…why do you have such a bloodthirsty aura when your only 8 years old?

Perhaps the quiet, gentle nii-san was the one they need to watch out for rather than our hotheaded nee-chan.

Hmm? You’re wondering why I was using Japanese terms and suffixes? Well they also have  suffixes and terms in their common language and I end up just mentally translating them into the Japanese equivalent because of my otaku nature. I also have mentally translated different things in my mind depending on the language. I usually use English but I sometimes use Japanese.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

Ah as for my new name too, well your probably thinking its feminine right? Well, They were expecting a girl when they had a siren’s egg….and they didn’t want to pick a new name I was stuck with this name. Mah, it’s not like I really care I mean in previous life I was a girl so I’m completely fine with a feminine name.

Well that’s what happened.

“Atiya-chan!”

I turned from the stuffed toys that I was playing with (trying to pick up but failing due to having wings but no hands) as my mother came to pick me up. It seems she has finished the lesson with nii-san and nee-chan. Of course I had listened while pretending to play but some of it just wasn’t interesting so I actually ended up really playing (failing) with the toys. Well no one ever praised me for my attention span…

“Lets feed you and put you to bed little one.”

Oh god…

Not this again…

Sometimes I wish I was a normal baby and this was exactly one of those times.

My mother shrugged part of her dress off and showed her breast to me. Uuuh…its so embarrassing I mean mentally I’m not a baby but physically I am so its needed.

But still to be fed like this is just…

Its a bit mentally scarring…

I now understand the merits of the baby bottle back in my old world.

After my (mentally scarring) feeding session my mother put me down in the wooden cot to sleep. She then, after checking one last time to see that I was cozy and falling asleep, left to make lunch for my siblings as father was out hunting.

As if I’d pass this chance up though!

You underestimate me mother!

You see one thing that we all know about is how a lot of those reincarnated try to train magic from birth! It would probably be insanely harder for other races, however I am not part of other races! I am a magical being and am partly composed of pure magic! I don’t have to work to sense mana as I can already innately sense. Mana to me is the equivalent of the very blood that flows through ones veins, it is an intimate part of me now. All I need to do is gather the mana from the air around me and assimilate it into my own storage of mana.

I had first started out with what could be called only a half a quarter of a cup. Now I’m at tiny bit less half a cup! I know what you’re gonna say your thinking “Eeeeh? Isn’t that too little progress? Have you been slacking off?” No, I haven’t been slacking off thank you very much! Its not as easy as it sounds ya know!

First, when I absorb and assimilate I still lose a certain amount of mana that dissipates back into the atmosphere in this process. While it seems like a negligible loss at first as you continually go through this process you begin to realize that it eventually wracks up to a huge amount that you’ve lost. I currently have no way to solve this problem. Second, I’m still a baby and I can only absorb a certain amount of mana into me to assimilate. If I go beyond that amount my body won’t be able to handle it and I will lose control of it killing me and anyone close in the process. This nearly happened one time but I was able to stop and control it before anything bad happened. Third, I’m alone only at certain times so there is a limited amount of time to practice.

After about an hour of absorbing and assimilating I now had a cup that was a little less than three quarters full. Now it was time to start the second round of practice, mana control! Obviously one needs a lot of mana to use magic however if one lacks the essential part of control then all that mana is for naught! He won’t be able to use the appropriate amount and might end up using far to much resulting in waste and simply exhausting himself faster.

Hence why I do this type of training too! I first gather a bit of mana and spread it throughout my body. I rotate it at different speeds around my body, spread it throughout my body or gather it in one place.

You might wonder why I do this instead of other magic. Well the one time I did try I managed to create a soft breeze with my wind magic but moments later my mother had bust in looking around while muttering about sensing magic. So I can only practice magic when I can walk to a secluded place.

As I was thinking this I had finished.

Yosh!

Done with my warm-up!

Now time to start the grueling part.

I take six minuscule parts of mana that would equate to the size of half a rice grain and start moving them slowly through my body. I slowly began to increase the speed bit by bit. When moving mana this small and so many it requires very fine tuned, intricate control. I had mastered five half-grains and am halfway to mastering the sixth half-grain. Its gets harder the more half-grains I add and the faster the speed. So I need to concentrate…

Concentrate….

…concentrate…

“ATIYA-CHAN! Come on lets play!”

GAAAAAH!!!

T-they all d-dispersed……

Dammit why Ruria onee-chan!?

Why!?

“Ow! Oi, what was that for nii-san!?”

“Your going to wake up Atiya-chan and he’s gonna cry cause your so loud.”

…..

Hehehe payback time.

I took a deep breath…

“Waaaaaaaaaah!”

Ha, this is what get for disturbing my precious practice time Ruria onee-chan!

“Uwawawa what do we do nii-san!?”

I feel sorry for nii-san. It must be so exhausting for him to be the nii-san of her.

“Sigggggghhhh.”

Such a big sigh nii-san, you sound like someone who just got done working overtime for an entire week.

“Come on Atiya-chan let us leave your block-head nee-san to herself so she can reflect on her block-headed actions and perhaps she can learn something for once.” Nii-san said with a voice as cold as ice as he gently picked up the teary eyed me and walked out of my room leaving behind my flustered nee-chan.

Uhyaaaaaaa, He really doesn’t pull his punches does he?

I mean damn, just his voice alone made me want to hide but paired with his words that were as sharp as a knife…I’m surprised nee-chan didn’t even look that affected by that.

Nee-chan must have some thick skin huh?

I suppose that quality of nee-chan’s in itself is something to be admired.
