Chapter 4: The Tunnel

Chapter 4: The Tunnel

Once there was no light behind me I signed in relief. The tunnel was now so tight against my body that it was hard for me to breathe. With only just the motivation to get to the other side I made myself crawl as far as my body could carry me. Finally, I collapsed from exhaustion.

My lungs could no longer get air into them, my body felt heavy from the weakness and the only thing I could see where twinkling stars. Laying down on the ground I closed my eyes and let my body drift into a deep sleep. I was in a dark place and the only light was coming from my hand. ‘Wait my hand is producing light, how is that possible?’ A white light covered my entire left hand.

As soon as I closed it; however, the light stopped. I opened up my right hand multiple times but nothing happened. Thinking it was the power that the wizard talked about I raised my hand and took aim for something in front of me. But nothing happened my hand just stayed solid white. I tired different hand movements to make my hand brighter: shaking it didn’t work, putting my other hand behind it didn’t work, and waving it certainly didn’t work.

A short heavy breath of frustration come out and suddenly a magical ball of light began to hover above my hand. I looked at it curiously just then it exploded filling the entire dark place fill with twinkling light. I was surround by dirt again but something was different this time, instead of a door there was a wooden hole that had a hand imprinted into it. I walked over to it and carefully placed my left hand into the hole. Just then light traveled from the hole and moved along the wall exposing what looked like ancient writing along it, it looked so beautiful. I took my hand out of the hole to see what the letters were saying; however, as soon as I took it out the walls became bare again.

My hand now seemed dimmer than it was before. I walked over the wall, shone my light onto the wall but nothing appeared. Just dirt. The hole was the only way to see the beautiful writing again, so I went over to the hole and placed my hand onto it once again. The walls then exposed the writing and when I looked up it looked like stars were dancing on the ceiling. ‘Stars!!’ Suddenly I felt something grabbing onto my shoulders and shaking me.

My head rocked back and forth with emptiness, I didn’t want to leave this place so I held on as much as I could. I kept my hand on the hole and watched as the power in my hand was being absorbed. It was no use I could feel my lungs filling up with air ever so slowly, as if something was trying to bring me back to life.
