In exhaustion we both sat down and took turns drinking from the canteen that was half full. Between taking heavy breaths and drinking I asked, “What else did the magic legend say about magic?”
After drinking the last of the water Linley continued his story, “Well next the boy came across a giant bolder that blocked his path so he went up to it and moved it only using one hand. In shock at what he had done the boy ran to his village and asked to see the king immediately. After hearing his story the king told the boy that he was chosen to be the beginning of magic. Not believing a word that the king said the boy ran away and never used his power again. That is until a great evil attacked the village that he was now living in. During the battle however the boy got ripped apart and his pieces were scattered around the world and thus creating the elements.” Linley paused and looked at my lost expression before continuing, “Each person who is chosen only has access to two of these elements and if they train hard enough they too can possess the same great strength that the boy once had. Throughout the years many have tried and failed in the process. They would use both of their powers together before either of them were developed properly.”
I looked down at my left hand and asked, “How do you know when the powers are fully developed?”
Linley took an uneasy sigh and responded, “One can never truly know when their powers are fully developed until it is too late.”
“So you’re telling me that if I use my powers before they are developed to their fullest I could die?”
“Exactly.”
If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
“That’s stupid. It just means that people aren’t training properly and therefore basically going into battle blinded.”
“This is just a legend so don’t worry about the details too much. With your strength your powers will be strong in no time.”
I sighed and then started walking in a random direction. Linley stopped me and told me that this is where he found me before so we were close to water. In no time at all we were at the small underground lake where he filled up his canteen before. Linley filled up his canteen and began to chug from it. When it was empty it was my turn to fill it up, nevertheless when I got close to the lake a large ripple, followed by a few small ones, which were coming from the middle of the lake.
I slowly stood up and backed away, not taking my eyes off of the lake. With my only focus on the lake Linley appeared behind me and touched me. As I jumped in surprised I made a squealing noise.
“What’s going on you seem to be on edge about something.”
“It might just be me seeing things but I swear something is in the middle of the lake and trying to come out.”
“Don’t be ridiculous there’s nothing there.” He walked towards the lake and saw ripples coming from the middle as well. I backed up to me and said, “Well whatever it is we’ll be ready this time.”
