Chapter 9: Between Two Worlds
Mathew's eyes scanned the crowded tavern, his senses on high alert for any sign of the vampire council's operatives. He had been sabotaging their efforts for weeks, leaking false information and taking out their agents before they could reach Diana.
As he sipped his ale, a hooded figure slid onto the stool beside him. "You're a hard man to find, Mathew," the figure said, their voice low and menacing.
Mathew's gaze locked onto the figure, his hand instinctively going to the dagger at his waist. "What do you want, Kael?" he asked, his voice even.

Kael, a high-ranking vampire enforcer, sneered at Mathew. "You're a traitor to our kind," he spat. "The council will stop at nothing to claim the book and ensure our dominance."
Mathew's eyes flashed with anger. "You're blind to the consequences of your actions," he said. "Using the book will lead to ruin for all magical creatures, not just our own kind."
Kael's expression turned cold. "Power is the only path to survival," he said. "And we'll do whatever it takes to achieve it."
Mathew knew he was outnumbered, but he refused to back down. With a swift motion, he drew his dagger and made a break for the door. Kael's operatives gave chase, but Mathew's knowledge of the tavern's hidden passages allowed him to escape.
As he emerged into the night air, Mathew vowed to continue his fight for unity over domination. He knew the road ahead would be treacherous, but he was willing to risk everything to protect the magical world.
