VIII-III. The Tavern's Singer

VIII-III. The Tavern's Singer

Some time had passed as Opal played with the string disk. The bar's music continued playing, but another singer sang instead. Sid continued working as Opal played, handing out beverages and setting plates on the counter. A halo grew brighter as the woman walked up toward the counter.

"Who's this cutie? What an aura for a child." The golden-haired woman said. She gently stroked Opal's face as Opal looked at her. The black-winged woman sat beside the pink hoodie-wearing girl.

"She's with Mallary," Sid responded while wiping the table.

"So, does she have a name?" She asked, rubbing Opal's face. Opal ignored her as she continued to play with the disk. "Not much of a talker, is she?" The singer asked.

"A girlie of few words and an endless stomach." Sid threw a plate at someone screwing around. "Knock that shit off!"

"Hey child," The singer said, "Do you want to hear a song I'm working on?" Opal ignored her still. The singer looked back a Sid, "Why won't she notice me?" She whined as she crossed her arms and face-planted into the table.

"The only thing she's interested in is food and Mallary. Like glue to a violin." Sid set a plate of fresh food and a drink in front of the singer. "Urielle, don't you have to be on stage?"

"Nah..." The singer replied as she stretched her arms out and her dark wing raised as well. Urielle looked up sideways, staring at Opal. "They got it covered. Plus, I'm leaving soon. Things are getting hectic at home." Urielle sighed for a minute. She opened her eyes wide and looked up a Sid, "He's right!" The singer said with enthusiasm as she sat upright, "My family is mensis! Just huge festering mensis that everyone hates! I don't have to go home."

Sid stared at her wide-eyed, "I'm going to need more context."

"Oh, nothing. I had a conversation with the Land Akkorokamui or the Berserker of the Forest, or whatever you mortals call it."

Sid scoffed, "You talk like that's normal. A vicious creature that lies in the Eternal Forest that has so far left none alive?"

Opal looked up at the two talking and snatched a cracker from Urielle's plate. Uriell quickly grabbed the blue-haired girl's arm. "I'll let you have that for a small price."

"Mine," Opal responded.

"It will be yours if you listen to my song. Do we have a deal?" Uriell said, waving the cracker around Opal.

"Ok," Opal watched Urielle as she started singing.

"Ok, but it's incomplete. So you'll ony hear fragements." Urielle cleared her throut, "oh, 𝕸𝖞 𝖎𝖌𝖓𝖔𝖗𝖆𝖓𝖙 𝖘𝖒𝖎𝖑𝖊𝖘... stare through? 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖛𝖔𝖎𝖉. 𝕴 𝖉𝖔𝖓'𝖙 𝖈𝖆𝖗𝖊 𝖎𝖋 𝖞𝖔𝖚 𝖇𝖗𝖊𝖆𝖐 𝖒𝖊, 𝖎𝖋 𝖙𝖍𝖆𝖙 𝖜𝖎𝖑𝖑 𝖇𝖗𝖎𝖓𝖌 𝖞𝖔𝖚 𝖏𝖔𝖞. Opal and Sid clapped. "That's very good," Sid said. Sid placed three empty plates in a row. Opal had slipped away about halfway when Uriell was singing.

"Before I go, I have two things to ask you," Urielle said with a devilish smile. She picked up one of the cups and sniffed it, "Why did you give the child alcohol?"

"What?" Sid said, grabbing the cup out of Urielle's hand. "How long have you know?"

"So... you didn't mean to give her alcohol?" Urielle smacked a drunk woman passing by with her wings. "Oops," she sarcastically apologized.

"No..." Sid thought for a second, realizing what had happened. "Fucking Mallary," he said, slapping his face. "It's always goddam Mallary!"

"Also, she's missing," Urielle's wings perked up.

"Shit, I've got a drunk child wandering around... and Mallary's here." Sid was super concerned about this. He turned to Urielle and asked her, "Do you think you look for her?"

"Sure," Urielle got up and started walking away.

Opal wandered around the room. She was looking for Mallary but got lost. The tavern moved around as Opal tried to dodge. She was shorter than everyone, so they didn't notice her as she slipped around.

Opal came across a tall man and stared at him. "I wonder if I throw this?" Opal thought as she lifted the wooden disk. Opal, without thinking, threw the disk at the tall man.

"Who did that?" The tall man said as he looked around. The man then turned towards another man and punched him. Her actions caused a chain reaction of fighting and the place to go into hell. Opal dashed toward a table where a man was drinking blood beer and hid under there.
