I woke up to unfriendly eyes staring down at me.
It took me a few moments to remember where I was and what had happened.
The slight green glow emanating from Jacques hand's told me everything I needed to know about his Type.
While I could feel his healing doing something, it was far from making me better.
Seeing that I had awoken, Jacques pulled me up from the ground.
That sent a wave of pain throughout my body. I had never felt anything like it in my life. Every part of my body hurt. I hadn't thought Ivan had hit my legs, but even they were aching.
It was clear that Jacques didn't put his all into healing me. His C-rank healing should have no problem getting rid of those injuries, especially with my endurance only being E-rank at the moment.
While I couldn't be sure how long it had been, I didn't think I had been out for all that long.
All of the others were still here. Ivan was now sparring with Emilia, and Arthur was now sparring with Blaine.
None of the others were paying attention to me in pain in the corner, assuming that Jacques would heal me up.
I limped back towards the group. Tim gave a slight smile as I joined them.
"Fighting Ivan for the first time isn't fun. He did that to all of us, don't worry. I'm guessing what they say about your stats is true. In which case, you performed a lot better than expected."
That didn't make me feel any better about myself.
Every part of my body still hurt. The fact that he might have done that to everyone didn't make me feel much better.
Even the weakest of them would have far more constitution than I did.
Looking at the sparring, Emilia was putting up a far greater effort than I had. Her stats, while lower than Ivan's, were enough to make the spar a lot fairer. On the other hand, Arthur was having much more trouble with Blaine.
He was a Heavy Type, with stout armour all around him. He seemed more like a wrecking ball as he charged at Arthur. I wasn't sure if Arthur would ever be able to use debuff skills, but he certainly didn't have them now.
While Arthur had been able to defeat Aarons more balanced stats, Blaine was all focused on strength.
Blaine's overwhelming strength defeated any counterattack that Arthur tried.
The glowing aura around Arthur had begun to fade. His skills losing potency made the difference in strength even more apparent.
That also made it clear that Arthur could take quite a bit of punishment. His constitution stat must be high.
But even that was eventually worn down by Blaine's assault. With a heavy blow, he sent the Paladin to the ground.
Arthur shrugged off the blow that might have killed me with relative ease.
This time around, Ivan wasn't able to immediately end the bout. Emilia dancing away from his finishing attack.
It was clear that they had practised many times before. The fight continued for another few moments before Emilia bowed out.
The obvious thing with that spar was the lack of Emilia's externals. She hadn't used any of her skills or new Type abilities.
While I didn't have a choice about using my abilities, I didn't see the point for Emilia to do the same. Her externals would be essential for every fight she would have in the future.
Turning from Emilia, Ivan once again approached me with a smile. Since the last one had me beaten into unconsciousness, I was more than a little on edge.
He walked up to me, clamping his hand on my shoulder, which was also the place that had been dealt the most damage in the spar moments before.
His cold, hard grip didn't help me feel any better, and neither did his attempt at a friendly smile.
"Sorry about that. It's how I like to test out everyone I spar for the first time. I hope there aren't any hard feelings."
I had to remain outwardly friendly while I wasn't feeling too happy with him. Whatever game he was playing, I didn't think trying to unveil it would do me any good. I doubted anyone here would believe me.

Before I could respond, he took that moment to clap his hands together.
"Right, well, that is enough group training for today. Let's meet up tomorrow morning for another round of sparring before fighting in our matches."
The others nodded in agreement while the new Types kept quiet. The fact that we didn't have to worry about that going unspoken.
The others were quick to go off in different groups. Some were going for more training. Others to get some food.
My body wasn't in any shape to move with any kind of speed, which left me alone in the empty cavern. The walk up the stairs was close to torture. Each step felt worse than the last. I had thought my muscles would ease out a bit as I walked. I had no such luck. While it had felt like it had only taken a few moments to get from the entry to the training area.
The walk back felt far longer. That gives me time to think. The training areas had to have Support Types around to heal any of the injuries that cropped up. That was the only thing giving me the power to limp to the entry room.
There, I had my first chance to talk to one of the attendants. Who looked at me with worried eyes as I limped towards their station.
"I'm guessing you need a healer."
I could only nod. The pain made it difficult to do anything else. She sighed in turn and motioned for me to follow her.
She was kind enough to take the short walk slowly, going down one of the other corridors from the entry room.
We arrived in front of a blank wooden door. She motioned for me to head inside.
"For non-life threatening injuries, you will be handled by a lower ranked Support. Do you have reason to believe your injuries are serious?"
While the pain was very much real, I was aware that they were far from life-threatening. I was sure that Ivan would have been careful about that.
With a shake of my head, she motioned for me to head inside and began to walk back towards the entry.
I mumbled out a thanks before heading through the door. I wasn't sure what I had expected, but a small windowless room wasn't it. There was a wooden bed of some kind on one side, and on the other was an occupied desk.
The single star on her shoulder made it clear that she was a first-year like me. The emblem of a Support Type was clear on her lapel.
Her bright green eyes were the first thing I noticed. While it was more of a folk tale, my parents had always told me to look for Supports with green eyes. My parents had claimed that they were the most powerful of their Type. While I wasn't sure how true that was, I wouldn't turn down the help.
I tried to stand straight, but even the attempt had me groaning in pain. That had her smiling in turn, a smile I couldn't keep my eyes off.
She got up off of her seat. Leading me to sit on the bed by the wall.
"You look a little worse for wear, lose your fight, did you?"
Her kind smile and pleasant tone made it clear that she meant it all in good fun. Any bruised pride that I had was quick to be swept away.
"You should see the other guy."
She grinned slightly at that and motioned for me to lie down.
"My name is Violet. Do you have any lingering issues I should know about?"
I could only shake my head; with a nod, she approached the bed, raising her hands in the process.
Her hands immediately lit up with the base healing skill. It took a few moments for a frown to appear on her face.
"Who healed you before? They did a terrible job."
I was a little surprised that she knew I had already been a little healed. That spoke to a higher level of skill than I was expecting.
I managed to bark out an answer, more out of spite than anything else.
"A first-year named Jacques."
That did get a reaction from her, her eyes widening slightly in turn. She looked at my face again, with much more scrutiny this time.
"You seem familiar. I can't quite place you. Why were you hanging around with Jacques Waters?"
That made me groan slightly. I knew that they were from impressive families, but the Waters name was nearly on the same level as the Romans.
They were the masters of the Support Type. Even having access to special skills that no other Support had been able to develop. Hearing that made it even clearer that Jacques hadn't tried to heal me properly.
No one wanted to get on the bad side of their family, as you never knew when you would have to use their services.
She whispered under her breath for a few moments before continuing.
It took another few minutes before I felt well enough to answer her other question. I was only thankful that she had the patience to wait.
"You may have seen me yesterday. I am one of the new Types."
I tried to have a little bit of pride in my voice, but with my pained body, it came out more of a groan.
Her face lit up after that.
"That's where I saw you; you can control that cute wolf, can't you?"
While I wouldn't totally agree with her description of my monster, I couldn't argue with her, nodding in return.
She squealed slightly at that, surprising me and causing me to groan in pain once again.
She ignored that as she began gushing about the wolf. She looked at me with the most severe look I had seen on her face thus far.
"Can I meet him?"
That was not the response I had been expecting. But since she had stopped healing, staring at me, waiting for an answer. I couldn't do anything but agree. That put her in a great mood, and she spent the rest of the healing session smiling.
It seemed to take an age, but finally, I felt good enough to start moving once again.
I was worried about distracting her, so I remained quiet for the time being, simply observing her work.
I was pretty surprised at how seriously she took the task. Making sure that every part of my body was healed correctly.
"Well, that should do it. You better not fight that person again anytime soon. Any more, and it could have been permanent damage."
I thanked her as I got off the bed, glad my body no longer plagued me with aches. I knew now where I would have to go the next time it happened. I was sure that I wouldn't get the chance to avoid the spars.
"Now that's done, when can we go meet your wolf?"
I wasn't sure how to respond to that; I still wasn't sure when I was allowed to see the monster, never mind anyone else.
"Aren't you busy here? I'm sure plenty of other people need your healing."
She thought for a few moments before shaking her head.
"I only have to heal ten people every day; with you, I'm done for today. I'm free to go if you are. Unless you don't want to."
As her bright green eyes stared up at me, I knew that I would have no way to say no.
It only took a few moments of her stare for my resolve to break completely.
I did owe her, after all; she was more than thorough with her healing. I supposed it would be good to visit the monster as well. Even another few minutes of practice might be worthwhile.
Looking down at her, I could only nod.
"Okay, let's go and see the wolf."
