The Terror wolf released a ferocious bark, the best I had seen out of it so far.
I didn't know if it was sensing my nervous energy or had a reaction to being in front of so many humans.
Either way, It didn't let me down with the first command. I was feeling more confident now in front of the crowd. I began to run through a few more commands I had practised the day before.
Making the monster sit and run around went even better. I didn't know if I was bringing out extra control with the situation. But it was far more fluid and controlled than only a few hours earlier.
I wasn't sure what else to do with the monster. I still needed more practice with the beast to do anything else. That and Juvenile Terror Wolves having no skills of their own. Made it impossible to see if I could make use of those skills.
After a few more moments of having the wolf walk around me, the General waved me over. My time was over as soon as it had come. My monster hadn't gone into a frenzy or tried to hurt anyone. I settled beside the others, who looked far more confident now, with a much calmer heart.
"Last but far from the least we have the Shaper. Please welcome to the stage Sarah Rocha, the first Shaper."
It was strange watching it from the arena floor. The noise was even louder than I had expected as Sarah took to the stage.
I didn't think I struck nearly as good a figure as she did walking onto the stage. Her full armor on display. That reminded me to remove my soul armour. I still couldn't deactivate my armour without a verbal command.
Whispering under my breath, I spoke.
"Deactivate."
I saw both Aaron and Emilia smirk in the corner of my eye. Only Arthur was still focused on the event in front of us.
Ignoring their reaction for the moment, my attention returned to Sarah. Who approached Instructor Drake.
He had been joined by another one of the Instructors. She had been one of the five the day before. The Instructor that was focused on teaching Sarah. The only job that was harder than my own Instructors.
The roar of the crowd faded as she approached. No one could take their eyes off the white figure.
While the appearance of the other new armours was something to behold, only Sarah's white could rival the brilliant gold of the Commander Type.
Her Instructor was a ranged type with a large staff with a crystal at the top that was attached to her armour. Her large focus meant that her skills would favour greater damage but would take longer to cast.
She demonstrated that by shooting a mana bolt at a target they had set up. While it was a powerful spell. Due to her staff, the skill took a few seconds to be let loose. Speed was the main drawback of such a large focus.
I hadn't even considered what would happen if Sarah changed a Range or Support Type's focus. That would completely change how they would cast their spells. It wouldn't make much of a difference to the lower-ranked Range and Support Types who had yet to develop a focus. For the B rankers and above, it would play a massive part in how they used their skills.
I had been far too focused on her ability to change the other type's weapons. But that paled in comparison to what she was about to show.
The tension grew as she approached the staff.
Instructor Drake took that moment to continue announcing.
"The Shaper will change the very nature of our armours. Capable of changing every facet of what our Armour is."
That was met with general confusion as she activated her skill and approached the Instructor.
Her hands shining. It was only when the staff began changing that there was an uproar from the crowd.
It was like nothing I had ever heard before.
The sound rocked the entire arena.
That made no difference to Sarah as she continued to mould the staff.
I had expected her to make it smaller. But what she began to do was far beyond any expectation.
Rather than simply making the focus shorter, she began to twist the focus. She was giving it one of the rarest sights a person could see. A multi-headed focus.
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
Silence reigned throughout the arena as she finished her shaping. Every person in the arena was waiting with bated breath.
What was more, it wasn't only a two-pronged focus. She had somehow managed to forge the staff into three separate heads. All joining together in a much smaller handle.
Sarah stepped back finished with the shaping. Her heavy breathing and strained face made it clear that such a shaping had been far from easy.
Looking at the other new Types standing beside me, it was clear that they knew that she could do such a thing. None of them mirrored the look of shock that I was sure was on my face.
One that was repeated all around the arena.
I looked towards the Instructor as she once again prepared to use mana bolt.
This time, it was a far quicker affair. Three rapid bolts shot out at once. Each one nowhere near the power of the one before. But all three of them hitting the same target caused nearly the same amount of damage.
That was followed by her shooting mana bolt several more times consecutively. There was no time in between volleys, creating what I was sure was an incredibly lethal attack.
There was another massive roar from the crowd. Their appreciation was evident. While there were many powerful beasts in the Hordes. What made them truly dangerous were the endless numbers pouring in from rifts all around the human plains.
Having a few people of the Instructors power with that change to their focus would massively reduce the pressure on the human front.
It took a few minutes for the crowd to quiet down once again. By that point, Sarah looked able to change the staff back.
It was a longer process this time around. But after a few minutes, she returned the staff to its original form.
It was clear that the Focus took much more effort than the weapons of the other types. She looked ready to collapse by the time she was standing beside us.
We basked in the moment for some time as the Headmaster repeated what he had said the night before.
This time around, he told the people of our year to push us to become the best new Types we could be. To give us ideas on how to work with the new Types. And to support us with this significant change.
I appreciated his sentiment but wasn't sure how far it would go. After all, my first welcome from another student hadn't gone great, especially with the fact that I would be spending a lot of my time in the future alongside him.
I decided to put the worries of the future to the side for a bit. I had to enjoy the moment I was in. I wasn't sure how many more times I would be able to bask in a crowd staring at me in awe.
With the Headmasters final speech, the first orientation was finished.
The official ranking tournament would take place tomorrow. Something I was looking forward to. As not only would my fellow classmates be fighting. The other years would also be deciding their rankings.
That was the only thing I could look forward to as we were led out of the arena.
While I had wanted to stick around and talk to some of my new classmates. By the time I had returned after putting the monster back into its enclosure. There was no one to be seen in the common room. Everyone was preparing for the matches tomorrow.
The new Types were exempt from this ranking. It would only be in the rankings for the next term that we would take part.
While I was disappointed with that, if what my professor had said was true, then by that time, I would have a lot more to work with.
That left me with little to do for the rest of the evening. The food hall was equally empty, most having eaten before the orientation. That left me with a whole day with very little to do.
I took the chance to visit the quartermaster and pick up the few books that I hadn't received on the first day.
The extra instruction from the Monster Instructors meant I had many more books about Monsters than I had expected.
I spent the evening pouring through them in my room. I came up with several variations of different monsters that might work for the future.
I went to bed that night dreaming of controlling several S-rank monsters to attack an oncoming horde of demons.
The next day, an air of excitement was clear in the common room. Not many people were speaking, but every person seemed focused on what was to come.
The same was true for the food hall. Every person ate quickly to go back to preparations, with the other new Types nowhere to be seen. I was the most leisurely person in the entire food hall.
That trend continued for most of the morning. I had a pleasant stroll around the campus, seeing a few places I hadn't had the chance to.
I found where most of my classes would be taking place in the future. I was glad to see that it was only a few minute's walk away from the dorms.
It was clear that the Commander Type got some special privileges. My monster theory classes were a lot further away.
The nervous energy was also clear in the arena itself.
There were none of the other people that had been there the day before. Leaving the only people in attendance, the students of the school.
I was surprised to see that I had a designated seat. As soon as I approached the attendant, I was led to a seat in the front row.
The class viewing area had been split into their individual ranks. The F ranks were closer to the back of the arena. I wasn't sure why they weren't using more of the arena's space, but I figured there was another reason for the layout.
I was one of the few C rankers to arrive early.
There was no one around me. If I was understanding the seating correctly. Then, the other people in the front row were those who had participated in the exhibition match.
They wouldn't be fighting till closer to midday. For the first years, at least, it would start with the F rankers.
The separation for the older years was a little different. But they would also start from the last place in their rankings the previous year.
That left the front row very empty, which I didn't mind. While I would have liked to have someone to speak to. Knowing that I would be sitting beside the new Types and the best of our year didn't have me feeling great.
I put that from my mind as the first matches were about to begin. I had no complaints about the view that the first row afforded me. I could see a clear view of each match.
The Magitech was limited to eight instances of simulation. Only eight matches would take place at a time.
Four of the matches were with F rank first years. But the ones I was really looking forward to were the other four. Two from each of the older years.
I was on the edge of my seat when the fights were called to a start.
