Chapter 7

“Good Morning Adventurer.”

A face that seems as if he had quite a lot of experience in combat is standing before Bob. He has the same kind of burlap sack on his waist the same as DaBest. This time the adventurer in front of him is not smiling but has an emotionless face. He constantly rolls his shoulders.

“Uhm, Hello. Good Morning?”

The adventurer stood still in front of him while maintaining eye contact. Bob waves his hand in front of the young man but it made no difference.

‘Boy they really are weird.’

While still deep in thought as to how he should talk with this particular adventurer, the young man started to become aware of his surroundings.

“Even for a Beta Test that took quite some time.” The young man said under his breathe while taking a loot the surroundings.

He finally became aware of Bob who is standing before him, staring at him.

“Hello.” He startled the thinking man.

“Good morning adventurer?” Bob replies with uncertainty.

“Have you a quest for me?” The adventurer asks.

Bob thinks for a moment to what would make this young man thinks that he some errand for him. It occurs to him that the request he put up has not been taken down yet despite being finished yesterday by DaBest. It might be removed once DaBest has returned to the guild he thought.

“Ah of course. Sadly it has been done already. See the well over there, I finally have easier access to water. I don’t have to go up and down the hill to get some.”

The adventurer looks downhill and saw the tube that is attached to the contraption near the barn. He walks towards the container and inspects it. Curious, Bob follows and observes him.

‘If he could improve this, I might pay him. Not like there’s anything else to work on.’

“I see. You use a watering can to water the field, do you?”

“Of course, what else would I use?”

“I can make an improvement to this that you would only turn a knob to water the plants.”

Another invention? Bob becomes excited. Every adventurer he meets always comes up with something that amazes him. Despite there’s only 2 of them that he had actually meet.

“Alright then. I’ll pay you 2 silver coins if you make it.”

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

The young man stopped moving for a moment as if waiting for something. Then he shrugged his shoulders before shouting.

“I accept!”

‘Again, with the weird way they talk. And why did he stop?’ Sometimes, Bob wonders as what goes through an adventurer’s mind. He keeps telling himself that he’s just meeting the odd ones. Odd enough to go to the farthest part of the peninsula for some measly task.

“What’s your name?” Bob asks, almost forgetting about it.

“EviLight.” The young man replies

“I’m sorry, what?”

“EviLight. It’s right there.” He points atop his head.

“Right…”

Bob nods and sends the adventurer on his task in further developing his container. He forgot to asks DaBest before about the names that he says are on top of their heads. Too many things occupy his thoughts that day that he forgot about the first thing that confuses him about them. Names on their heads? He couldn’t understand the logic behind it.

He returns to what he would actually do for the day, and that is to teach to cubs how to herd the animals. If they are going to stay with him, it should not be as pets that would burden him, but as trained servants.

In all his efforts he tries his best to teach them. Running around, and giving them signals when to run or stop. After several attempts and seeing no success he lies down the grass taking deep breaths right under a shade. Exhausted he looks up and sees the sun piercing the leaves of the trees, the cubs soon walk over to him and licks his face. He wipes the slob off his face and sat upright and looks at the cubs.

Agta tilts her head while looking at him. Agta on the other hand is chasing his tails. Bob walks over to her and pets her head.

“At least, you’re paying more attention to me.” He says as he pets the young wolf.

The adventurer is hard at work and he doesn’t want to bother him. He went inside his house and grab some food and offer it to the young man.

“Uhm…Light? Would you like to take a rest I have some food here?” Bob asks hesitantly.

He is still not sure how to call him. The name is weird for him to pronounce without questioning it. The young man left his work and sat with him while they both eat the apples.

“So… your parents named you EviLight, was it?”

“No, that’s what I call myself.” He replies with his mouth full.

Bob eyes widened and left the subject alone. No parents would ever name their child like that he supposes. He glances at the young man eating the fruit who’s savoring as if it’s his first time to ever eat an apple.

“This taste really good.”

“Home-grown, plucked them myself.” Bob said proudly before taking another bite.

Another thought crosses his mind, of the things that he wanted to ask adventurers.

“There was another adventurer who came here before you” Bob said, attempting to ready his question.

“Really? Didn’t met anyone on the way here. Then again, I wasn’t paying attention.”

“He’s a young man, looks the same age as you and carries the same burlap sack by his waist.”

“What about him?”

“Those sack of yours how do they do that magic?”

“Magic? Oh, you mean this?”

The young man took his burlap sack and opens it. He puts his hand inside and pulls out a bone that has the same length of his arm. Looking closely, it wouldn’t have fit inside. He couldn’t get his mind to understand it.

“It’s called an inventory; every adventurer has one.”

Amazement fills his eyes as he once again witnesses the mystical device. He inquires a lot of things of the sack and the young man tries his best to explain it. But despite his best effort to explain, he couldn’t quite expound how it works. Where is this spatial plane where the items reside? Who made this? Are just some of those questions. The adventurer laughs as even though he is the owner of it, he couldn’t answer those questions.

After talking some more, the young man finishes the contraption and shows it to him. A long tube is connected to the container and it stretches towards every part of his plowed land, separate from the main valve. The adventurer turns the valve and out comes the water, dousing the entire field faster than he could ever imagined.
