Chapter 4

Chapter 4

“Good morning adventurer, welcome to my domain.”

Bob greeted the young man across him. His stature is about the same height as Nesbitt but looks younger. He’s carrying a short sword on his back, wearing leather boots and a belt buckle on his waist with a small burlap sack on his side. The young man is smiling back at him but it’s making him uneasy.

Earlier before meeting the said man. He saw the young man swinging his sword and jumping around the place. He thought no more of it since he might be testing his skills. He then walks up to Bob and sheathed his sword.

After some silence the man finally began to speak

“Wow, this place is amazing!” He exclaimed.

“Thank You. 2 years of hard work did the trick.” Bob laughs to remove his inexplicable uneasiness.

The young man looked around with a big smile on his face, looking up and jumping in place while brandishing his sword.

‘Strange kid, hopefully not all adventurers are like him.’

He faces the young man and tried to stop him from whatever it is he’s doing.

“My name is Bob, what’s yours?”

He stops and looks at Bob then sheathed his sword again.

“I’m DaBest.”

“I’m sorry what?”

“I’m DaBest.”

“The Best?”

“Yes, DaBest. Can’t you see it on top of me.” He points at top of his head but Bob couldn’t see anything.

He shrugged what happen just now. For the moment he just wants the young man to leave as soon as possible.

“I suppose you are here about the request that I put up?”

“Yes”

“I’m looking for a way to have an easier access to the well downhill, so I wouldn’t need to come and go. Will you help me? I will reward you 2 silver coins.” Bob clasp his hand as he is pleading.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

“I accept!” The young man blurted out.

Then man left immediately and went straight to the well.

Bob shudders for a bit from the experience. ‘They’re all not like this aren’t they?’ He asks himself. He went back to his house and hide anything that might interest the young man, he might steal from him for all he knows.

‘And what’s with his name? Who names their child The Best?’

He gazes from his porch and see the young man still going about the well. He waves at him and then the young man waves back. Bob sat back at the chair by the porch and just looks at the young man to see if he’ll do anything suspicious. Seeing as the young man is just jumping up and about the place, he decided to let him be.

He returns to the field and weeded the crops. Digging and cleaning the place filled his mind that he forgot about the young man.

It was then past noon; the sun is high up and Bob is already covered in sweat. He went to a tree that’s close to the well where the young man is still trying to come up with something.

“Is anything okay over there?” Bob said as he walks over.

“Where do you want the water to go?”

Bob wondered. ‘Did he figure something out?’

“Just up the hill so I wouldn’t have to go up and down to get some.”

“We need to have a reservoir up there. Do you have a big container?”

They went up the hill and Bob showed him all the barrels that he has. A total of 2 dozen barrels, that can contain water enough for the animals to drink and to water the plants. The young man thought to himself then took out a piece of paper and a pencil from his burlap sack and draw something like a small pond.

“Here, can you make something like this?” He showed Bob the drawing.

Bob just stood there and wondered what this young man is making him do. ‘I’m paying you 2 silvers to do something and you want me to make something?’ He kept his thought to himself and just shook his head.

The young man gave out a sigh then went back to the well. Bob used up all his time to rest then returns to the field.

A few moments later the young man calls to him. He is by the barn, he puts two barrels on top of each other, removing the partition and using some adhesive to that there would be no leak. A tube is connected to the lower part where the other end is by the well which now covered with some sort of mud. A spigot is attached to the lower part of the upper barrel, he turns the knob and out comes the water.

“What?!” Bob was surprised.

He hasn’t seen anything like it. He was used to obtaining water from the well.

“What is this?” He asks while looking fascinated by the spigot.

“It’s called a spigot or a faucet, it dispenses the water from the container”

“Witchcraft?”

“No, it’s just normal accessory.”

“Thank you, here’s the 2 silver as promised, and another 2 for something this magnificent.”

The young man was taken aback but he couldn’t refuse the offer that he is given.

“Is there anything else that you want?” The young man asks

“You said something about a reservoir, do you think you can improve this? I’ll give you another 2 silver.” Bob asks while clasping his hand but this time he really wants to see what the young man has planned.

“I accept!”

“Will you build this so I can do it faster?” The young man pulls out the same piece of paper that he showed Bob earlier.

“I can, but I have a lot more to do for the day. Tomorrow, I can make it tomorrow” Bob replied with excitement.

Bob felt that the 4 silver coins that he gave the young man is not enough. He invited the man to stay for supper, he promised not to expect much for the meal he was about to be offered. The young man gladly accepted the invitation with his usual tone of ‘I accept.’
