Ch 2. unruly rules

Tom had been walking around for a bit when he though about what magic, or whatever this chaos was caused by, really meant for the world. 'we could have a system like all those fantasy novels' and with that thought it now existed.

Welcome to the system! Think or state: "Status" to access relevant information.

"Uhm, Order did i not ask you to rip thoughts from my head?" Tom asked

"Unfortunately it seems there are more rules to this than i thought. It would seem unique concepts are difficult to stop from manifesting," order replied, sounding slightly worried.

"Oh. Aight' well you are now omnipotent, which should enable you to stop unique concepts" Tom replied trying to think of how to solve such a security Issue.

"Oh, sure, yea lets say that Unique concepts are only as strong as they are for the first thinker, not the first time they're thought by a thinker, so now technically my omnipotence is one step behind yours, and i now offer a trade of my omnipotence uniqueness to you so that I can still stop your stray thoughts," Order asked of Tom.

"I accept said offer. Order try to stop me from manifesting a stone ahead of me" Tom asked and tasked his mind manifesting said stone

"It would seem it is still possible to stop your stray thoughts, congratulations! You're not dying from suffocation in a wall," Order chirped.

"Right. Thanks for the reminder. I suppose my mental health is now less important to you, your omnipotence," Tom replied not sarcastically.

"Speaking of omnipotence we need more rules, I'll absorb System to be a co-entity of mine, Concepts can't be applied to entities that didn't think of them unless access is granted willingly. This would now mean you can't make more people omnipotent. Thoughts are Sacred, and unreadable by other entities without permission. Only an omnipotent being can create sacred concepts. Unique concepts are now filtered through my System for verification of existence" Order pondered aloud.

"System shows these changes for relevant entities, System should limit the abilities of individuals so that you don't need to waste thoughts on that" Tom said and as an after thought "Ah and along omnipotence you could have omniessence and omniscience, not sure about omnibenevolence though. It might get in the way as an enforced Concept. You should probably think it through since you're the smart guy now," Tom proposed to Order.

Order read some System messages that looked like this:

Allow Concept: "Power limit" Limit the power of entities to prevent accidental suicide via magic. yes/no

Allow Concept: "Omniessence" You as an entity are now everywhere at once, can perceive information from everywhere that Magic permiates. Yes/no

Allow Concept: "Omniscience" You will have information of everything you can perceive. yes/no

Allow Concept: "Omnibenevolence" You will do everything for the good of all. yes/no

To which Order pondered aloud, "isn't it more interesting to have an adventure than to know everything at once?"

"Sure, i can have an adventure, but i'd prefer if at least someone knew what happened, if only to protect us from outside entities who might've gained similar power to yours" Tom replied.

And Order acquiesced "I suppose I will ruin the adventure for myself and just let you have one." and selected yes on all but benevolence.

"I think i have some stability issues to fix after this, it seems someone has been birthing Concepts left and right for the last few days before the System," Order said accusingly.

"I would never," Tom replied in mock.

"Yes, Yes, go have your little adventure now," Order grumped.

"Thanks for everything Order" Tom said thanking the entity that probably saved the last pieces of his sanity over the last few days, if not only via existing and talking.

"Yeah. I know, i know everything, i guess." Order said, somewhat dejected.

"I'll try to find you a god friend who knows something you don't" Tom replied slightly worried.

Stolen content warning: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.

"And have me be wrong about something? I couldn't withstand that! Do you know how LARGE my Ego is?" Order replied in mock horror.

"At least the God-hood didn't take away your humor. And i don't know how large is the observable universe?" Tom asked.

"Larger now, and with new cool dimensions to explore!" Order replied with enthusiasm.

"Haven't you already explored them all since you're omniscient?" Tom asked in slight confusion.

"It seems I have, or someone else has, microwaved a hot pocket so hot even as an 'Omnipotent' being I can't eat it." Order replied.

"That's somewhat worrisome, it would mean there was either some other god before us, or that there are limits that even thoughts can't surpass," Tom thought more worried now.

"Eh, i'll deal with the eldritch hot pockets and you have an adventure. Also it's more of an information problem than actual enemies, at least so far." Order replied sounding unworried.

"Good luck with that then, you can ask me to blow on it at anytime" Tom replied, and started walking, wondering and pondering.

----------------------------------------

"Allow System and Order access to my thoughts" Tom said and thought 'status' to which a window opened.

Name: "Tom" Level: 1 Attributes:

Strength: 10

Intelligence: 10

Magic: 10

System Message:

Due to recent changes to the system All attributes have been reset with the safety of the user in mind. here were your previous stats before the reset:

Strength: 9

Intelligence: 9

Magic: ∞

"Well, that's something" Tom thought aloud, slightly suspicious of infinity not being the actual value but just an example of the difference.

Though tom was reminded of the short burst of everything he had felt at the start of this journey and then decided that he'd rather just focus on what's useful, than semantics.

"I want an apple," Tom said and an apple appeared in front of him.

"That's a bit... Un-fantasy," Tom said, confident in his new word. Yet slightly miffed.

"Order why is magic so easy?" Tom asked.

To which the God in training replied "It's the glimpses of infinity." then thought for probably a few nano seconds, if time even applies to such a being, but extended the pause for social comfort "Actually here. Have some new Stats in your system for game balance."

A new System Balance patch is here! Mana! No longer are the days of instant easy magic. You will have to do grueling work like, navel gazing, to gain more power! And other insidious changes- i mean, balance features, of course.

"Uh, did this message go to every system user?" Tom asked.

"Ah... Just you," Order replied.

"You know what, i don't need to know," Tom replied and thought 'status'

Name: "Tom" Level: 1 Attributes: base Strength: 10 Intelligence: 10 Magic: 10 Resources: current max Mana: 90 100 Health: Inappliccable Stamina: Inappliccable

Spells: Conjure food(Max)

"So... i'm immortal and inexhaustible now?" Tom asks no one in particular.

Yet Order answers "Sort of always were, if you would've crushed yourself with those walls to "death" you would've eventually emerged again. Though now you're more to the invulnerable end of immortality"

"Well that makes the adventure less exciting and dangerous. Could you make it so that i can establish a safe zone with some criteria and i'll respawn there after my "death", and of course make me less invulnerable?" Tom asked Order.

"That is borderline insanity, yet i do agree that it would make things more exciting. So sure, have an immortal soul yet mortal body," Order replied, apparently bored.

"All right, 'can't wait to experience death', is a completely sane thought i didn't think," Tom jested, while eating his well earned apple.

"Whatever you say boss" God replied.

"Say. Did i handicap myself way too much to ever figure out this mess?" Tom asked as if it was an afterthought of giving up immortality for "fun".

"Definitely." Order said.

"Uh, Can you give me some monsters to Fight for levels then?" Tom asked.

To which an exhausted sounding Order replied "I really can't tell If you're really smart or really stupid but at least you keep me guessing if I don't read your mind."

"If you're already limiting yourself from reading my mind to have fun you know the answer," Tom replied.

And order said, "I really don't."

"Oh and wipe my memory so that all of this is way more magical for me, let me leave a note or something to my self" Tom said, getting more excited.

"That sounds... risky, and unpleasant for me" Order replied worried.

"Sure but i'd say it's for my own mental health, or some good reason like it, i don't really have a clue, maybe i'm being too excitable with only having infinite possibilities, we can do a few test runs with different notes and settings? Just have some sort emergency memory backup if I find some sort of existential threat or something?" Tom pleaded, now understanding that apparently now without infinite power, he had to ask someone else to do his mind dishes for him.

"It does sound more interesting than solving everything for you with a snap of my metaphorical fingers" Order replied

"Hah! There's my favorite un-benevolent god!" Tom yelled to the twisted landscape around him.

"Thanks Tom, God of Curiosity." Order said, and wiped Tom's memory Leaving him only a note of his thoughts.
