Chapter 3

The trees in the forest were burnt. Drops of blood blemish the bark and gleam in the moonlight. Dozens of unknown creatures had their eyes set on the three while salivating, hoping a chance to have dinner would arise sooner rather than later.

Despite their situation, all the attention on was the god inhabiting Amy's body. Several questions were thrown at Prometheus but he caught them all with ease.

"Why is a god like you with Amy?"

"Devan. I told you multiple times, it's because Craig summoned me into her body."

"Yet you disobeyed his orders which makes me believe you could easily leave Amy and go back to the spirit realm. So tell me Prometheus, why are you still with Amy?"

Prometheus looks left then right noticing all the bloodthirsty mortals around them and a hyperventilating woman wrapping her arms around herself while rocking back and forth.

"Shouldn't you take care of that woman instead of wasting your time with me?" He points at Marie who felt she was going to meet Hades in a few minutes.

Devan took one glance at her seeing what was wrong instantly. He grabbed Amy by the throat and brought her up close.

"Why don't you watch the women while I lead us out of this forest?"

Nonchalantly Prometheus agreed to his terms, slapping Devan's wrist hard enough for Devan to scream in pain.

"Aaaaaahhhhh, you damned god!

Meanwhile, Prometheus went over to Marie and changed Amy's appearance to his own.

"Listen, child, I'm here so you don't have to worry about getting hurt." He puts his hand out hoping she'd take it but she refused.

"You made my savior feel pain. Why should I let someone like you protect me?"

He retracts his hand, manifests a flaming sledgehammer with a smile on his face. "I'm going to give you two reasons why you should trust me. Reason one I could kill all these monsters in seconds ." He taps the ground with the blazing hammer but nothing happens for a while.

"Your first reason is a lie so please leave me alone'' she requests simultaneously crawling over to a suffering Devan soon noticing the smell of burnt meat, a breeze of decaying air went up her nose suffocating the atmosphere. The once moving dense shadows became stiff. She stopped in her tracks turning her head at Prometheus who had an evil smirk on his face.

"Just in case you think I'm still lying I got a visitor right behind me." He steps aside, availing a beast whose eyes of flame simmered down to pure ashes while its bloated body was smoldering.

She was speechless. She was too afraid to run towards Devan since he could get more hurt than he already is but she can't attack Prometheus herself since she'll get slapped like a fly so she stayed still on all fours.

"Now that you know I'm not lying I'll proceed with my second reason. Reason two, I know how to ruin Craig's plan. We seem to have one thing in common, we all have a deep antipathy towards Craig."

"I trust him so you should too, Marie," Devan mutters trying to keep his pain down.

In a switch of emotions, Marie immediately grabbed Prometheus' hand with a beaming smile. "I'm so sorry I disrespected you. I'll follow your orders from now on."

"That's a smart choice. Since you seem less menacing than earlier I'll restore you."

He lets go of Marie's hand to walk over to the injured Devan. He taps his scorching sledgehammer on the ground lighting Devan on fire.

"Devan no!" Marie dashed over to aid Devan but was knocked out immediately by Prometheus.

"Did you have to do that?" Devan asks while cooling in the flames.

"She would cause more trouble as time went on. I have to say, I am surprised at your reactions. I thought you'd raise your arms against me once more."

"My only objective is to protect Amy and make Craig's plans burn to the ground. Marie forced herself to come with me so I don't see why I should care what happens to her."

Prometheus snickers at his statement while smoldering the fire. "My time is running out therefore allow me to let you in some things. Firstly, I need you to train Amy mentally and physically for her to access my full powers without me taking control of her"

Dusting the dirt off his clothes he asked "why would I have to do that? You being in control seems to be the best option to keep her safe whenever she faces danger."

"As you know Amy is a human, not a Devbarian, which gives her a huge advantage with a major drawback. The drawback is she'll lose all of her memories due to not having the power to control me. Luckily, I managed to keep her current memories with her now but it'll be more difficult the more she experiences."

"Is that why she doesn't remember anything that happened before last year?"

"That is the reason. Back to the point, her advantage is she'll have full access to my abilities. The average Devbarian possesses only forty percent of their god's power. So I'll ask you again, will you train Amy both physically and mentally?"

"I'll try my best"

"Glad to know you're on board. Now let's talk about the plan. You'll be going to Primairia as a human representative seeking their allegiance. After doing that you'll do the same with all the two other nations but keep in mind you'll face powerful opponents on your journey. Are you okay with that?"

"I don't see how making alliances with the other species would ruin Craig's plan. If anything it'll make his plan of domination go smoothly"

"Making all the nations have one sole enemy, Craig, would be going according to his plan? I doubt that my child."

"That plan sounds out of character for an entity like yourself. Didn't you have a hand in creating us, humans?"

Prometheus' body began to shift back to Amy's body. He covers his mouth trying to hold in his laughter. "Sorry, my child but it seems little Amy is coming back so we have to continue this conversation at a later date. You better get her where she needs to be, Devan. Καλή τύχη!/Καλή επιτυχία!"

With those last words, Prometheus gave the control back to Amy herself. Her eyes fluttered while she was stretching out her body as if she just woke up from a long nap. A few looks around were enough to make her bewildered but the sight of Devan made all of her worries disappear.

"Even the smart and strong Devan can get lost huh? If you keep this up you'll get fired soon hahaha!"

"Out of all things to say you say that? You truly are an idiot."

"An idiot calls others idiots so you're the true idiot"

"So you're still an idiot."

"Shut up big dummy" Amy pouts while pacing towards Marie then points at her saying "pick her up. She treated me kindly while I was trapped so I want her to stay with me."

"You do realize it'll make our journey more difficult having her along. I'm a talented fighter and you have a god with you. All she has is brains which isn't good enough since I'm smarter than her so she's useless." He says proceeding out of the forest but is forcefully dragged back by Amy.

"She's coming!" She yells making embers spark around her. Subconsciously, Devan stepped back as if his body is telling him she's a predator and he is the prey. He quickly relaxed his muscles before she could comment.

"Fine, but if something happens to her it's your fault." He states as he throws the unconscious Marie on his shoulder returning to his tracks out the forest.

"Yay!" She cheers running circles around him.

"Calm down and listen to me."

"Huh?" She stops running around him and begins to walk normally beside him. " What's wrong?"

"You'll be honing your skills under me starting tomorrow."

"What skills?"

"Your physical and mental skills."

"Why?"

"Because you need to know how to watch yourself without any guidance."

"Is sir Devan admitting he's too weak to protect one single person? What a loser hahaha"

" Don't start twisting my words. I'm confident in abilities so I know I won't lose to someone else easily"

Amy grabbed his hand and looked into his eyes" then protect me forever if you're so confident" she proclaims while halting her laughter.

Devan didn't reply but instead chose to admire the primordial forest. As they continued on they encountered centuries old trees with sprawling limbs guarding the darkness, blotting out any moonlight.

'If only she knew how to use those fire powers of hers' Devan ponders while trotting along the unilluminated path without any fear. Amy began to get curious about the scenery so she touched one of the tree's bark. It was mottled and splotched as if the bubbled soup had been frozen in time on its surface.

"Eww!" She yells rubbing all the germ on Devan's pants.

Devan didn't notice her actions since he was in awe by the clumpy combs of wet moss dangling from the rotten boughs. Underneath the moss, lethal larkspur peppered the mulchy floor. A pungent tang oozed from every sentient being in the forest. Bewailing sounds ghosted through the trees.

'I wonder if that was from the victim or victor. I guess only the forest could tell.'

Amy slapped Devan's behind yelling" stop daydreaming about icky stuff and let's go!"

"Why do you have to be so loud about everything?" He asks while being dragged forward.

"Because you wouldn't listen otherwise." She states continuing to pull his arm forwards.

"Quick question Amy. This Forest is truly a place to make an average human's veins freeze over. Why haven't you shown any fear?"

"Because I have two guardians watching over me at all times. None of you would even let a fly hurt me so why should I be scared?"

"Maybe because everything in this forest is considered edible to those creatures."

"You mean the animals who are now all burnt toast?"

"You -." He didn't have a comeback to retort with so he paced in front of Amy, reversing the roles. "Just shut up." Amy smiles as they both near the exit of the forest.

To their surprise, the sun rays shot them in the face not realizing it was daytime. That was only one third of their surprises.

Amy points at the strangely patterned mountain range" how are we going to get up there now. I'm getting tired of walking"

"I didn't expect Primairia to have a landscape like this so I'm as lost as you."

"Then can we…"

Before Amy could finish her sentence a growling sound was heard from the nearby bush. Devan placed Marie down and motioned Amy to stay behind him as he hastily pounced inside the bush.

' Don't worry Amy. That's just an old friend of mine.'

"Prometheus, Is that you?"

' As usual, you never asked the more intriguing question but yes it is my child. You've gained the ability to talk to me telepathically.'

"Awesome. Anyway is your friend dangerous?"

'Well'

As Prometheus was about to answer Devan came out the bushes holding up a lengthy olive skinned boy who had a triangular face, a straight nose, and small lips. His dark blue eyes were puffy, he had neat eyebrows and his hair was black and curly.

"It was just some starving child looking for food. Maybe he knows how to get in"

Amy pauses as Prometheus tells her a few points about the starving child.

' Make sure you tell Devan everything I just told you because it's very crucial.'

"Devan"

He rests the child against a tree before looking behind saying "what"

"That boy is a very special Devbarian therefore we should take him with us"

"Why would a Devbarian be at Primairia's doorstep? "

"Prometheus doesn't know why, but he does know who he belongs to. It's the Chief god, Zeus"

Devan slowly turned back to the boy with every bone in his body shook. Calmly, the boy was fast asleep without the care of the world. He was speechless.

"Prometheus also said he's Zeus's only child meaning if anything were to happen to him Zeus would probably destroy half of the planet out of pure anger. That's why Prometheus thinks it's best taking him with us on our journey."

Devan turned to the mountains, took a deep breath in, and screamed his soul outside his body. The echo rippled throughout the mountains alerting the main guard. Unknowingly, Devan and the gang sat still as the strongest elemental guards rushed towards them.
